Is EA incapable of making a game without a brown or bland hue to everything?
Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 16:37:16
Whoa now,you know what they say. don't judge a game by screenshots, but still, when i compare this to my newly bought game (Flatout: UC) i gotta say Flatout wins everything.

I played Burnout 2-4 but somehow i now get the feeling it gets lame...
There are way too many car-games out there. Now this new Flatout, then NFS is comming (dont forget Forza and Dirt) and now this again?.... Oh well, i will need a demo be4 a buy.

the only thing that those games have in common are that you control a car. Gameplay wise they are all very different. And you left out the best one, Project Gotham 4.
Burnout died when number 3 came out.

I see anti-aliasing is still clearly an issue with Sony's consoles.
Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 17:19:07
*sigh* I wish this game wasn't free roaming.

Oh well I hope it's still good.

Rather than recyling old games under new graphics maybe they should combine Burnout with NFS and add some variety.

And no pedestrian... ;. somehow i feel like playing Midtown madness tonight.

Burnout:Crazy Taxi would be nice (scare the hell out of the customer for bigger fare) :)

Looking better than the last shots at least. But plenty of jaggys as said.

Are they turning down the speed and insane-o-meter for this one or something? Where are the crash and high-speed shots?
Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 17:57:34
Mmmm mind showing a crash???? ...as if this game was about something else.

Holy jaggies batman. HD begins at 1080p and all that.

But the thing is, those shots have at least 2X FSAA and people still dont understand that FSAA is not SUPERSAMPLING (like in downscaled bullshots). If the game actually were running at 1080p it could be downscaled to 720p with effective supersampling, but I bet they'll be hard pressed to get it to run at 60fps at the "not true hd" res.

So it will just be one enviroment, that city? Sounds pretty boring, cause I really liked the variaty of tracks in the previous Burnouts, especialy the mountain tracks. If these are no longer available I'll pass...
Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 18:25:19
Who cares about the jaggies, it will probably look smooth as butter when it's running. You're gonna be speeding along those highways at crazy speeds to notice anything anyway.

Just like low-res textures, muted color palettes and inadequate lighting algorithms, jaggies are simply going to be a signature graphic "feature" of any Playstation hardware. Always has been, always will.

In 2078, they'll introduce Playstation 9, it will run on a cybernetic interactive construct engine (just like in The Matrix) which plugs directly into your cerebral cortex for a fully immersive experience that puts you actually in the game. And you will still be able to easily tell it apart from any other game console of the time, because in the Playstation version of the Matrix, there will be jaggies and low res textures and muted colors and bad lighting. So just get over it, people. The sooner you do, the sooner you can all chuck your 360s and your Wiis into the trash and rush out to get yourselves a jaggilicious PS3 http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/1716/humpgx6.gif

BTW. Is that Speed Racer's Mach 5 in photo #4?

Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 19:59:40

this game goin to kill super smash bruther series
Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 20:03:06
Well seeing as it says ''5 images from PS3'', you could well be on to something there.
Commentaire du 27/06/2007 à 20:17:06
Quite nice. They do have some kind of 2xAA; the worst jaggies are in reflections and those beam textures that have 1-bit alpha and are sampled unfiltered. Maybe this won't change in the 360 version.

I just realised I can just ignore Unfettered. My life will be so much happier from now on! :O

Actually, I salute Criterion's desire to sort of go to a new place with Burnout. I loved the series in the past, and I think it absolutely peaked already at 2, which is also why I feel there's really not much you can do with the series in that shape besides... I dunno.. more glass and bent cars during crashes? Avoiding growing stale, they're picking the series up and running with it, and while it's discouraging that it's using very familiar buzzwords to describe itself (reminders of NFS), I think the fact that it's Burnout will still very much shine through in its sheer intensity.

I think the fact that the series in the past has been so much about adrenaline poses a lot of questions about how you keep a free roaming game action packed, and it's sort of in believing Criterion might pull that off that I find it interesting. Hopefully, getting into races and stuff will be tons less cumbersome than it traditionally has been in games of this type.

Meanwhile it's my hopes that they'll continue with their "classic" series of Legends and Dominator on less advanced hardware, just to keep the gameplay of 2-4 around.
