Xbox 360 PS3

Who said that Saturdays where slow days? After a great GSD, here comes another excellent video with the first 10 minutes of The Darkness (360 version). It's also the first video done with Snoopers' brand new HD capture hardware, the same as mine and DjMizuhara's. More footage of this great game soon.

Proper allocation of memory should've eliminated the aliasing. There are a number of tricks they could've used, too. Using the HDD as a memory cache, streaming levels/data directly off the disc...

Wow, that's a switch. I've found games usually look better during the cutscenes.

That would be a solution to low res textures ( blurred ) / worse models / loding times.

Anti-aliasing requires GPU power and has big memory bandwith requirements - (DDR3 in PS3 has 20GB/s=20.000MB/s ) what would HDD transfer (30MB/s) help with - it's not "not enough memory" problem but not FAST enough (and 128bit only) and GPU too weak difficulty?

call of juarez is annoying
vampire rain is awefull
tenchu z is not bad

Umm... AFAIK PS3's memory is faster than Xbox 360's, though there's less of it to be used in games since bigger amout of memory has been reserved for the current & future implementations to the OS (in-game XMB? Stuff like that) than in Xbox 360.

No. It's roughtly the same BUT X360 has *extra* 10MB cache on the die in the GPU for "free" antyaliasing with 256GB/s bandwidth.

I just finished the Playstation 3 version today and it was great. I didn't notice any slowdown and the aliasing isn't anything we haven't seen before in console games. It runs rather well on Playstation hardware, this engine they are using has been modified over the past seven years, IIRC.
And when watching the credits, they credit all of the video content in the game you can watch on the TV. There is a TON of it, I must have only seen an 1/8th of what is there. Maybe now that I've finished the game I'll settle Jackie Estacado next to a TV and become an in-game couch potato. ;)

Yep multiplayer is practically unplayable. The team is aware of this though.

"I've read all of your concerns about the multiplayer and was just online to try it out for myself... I hear you Brothers and I saw it for myself. Fortunately, the lag problem wasn't consistent. It happened with only a few matches.

Here's the deal: Starbreeze, as is common with most developers at the launch of a game, are on a bit of a vacation. They've worked 7 days a week for months now and well deserve it. However, once they get back we're going to look into what we can do about the lag problem. Emails have already been sent.

All I can ask is that you be patient for the time being.

As always, when I know more I'll let you know.

And, of course, if you have any questions you know how to reach me.

Multiplayer doesn't interest me for this one anyway, so just as well.

Awesome Vid, the cinematics and sound are just amazing, esp the driving scene, it pulls you right in!

Is the (REALLY BRIGHT) contrast level down to the capture hardware, or the in-game lighting?

I loved Riddick and this seems similar to it in terms of enviroments and whatnot, just a shame the A.I. seems a bit thick, that won't stop me from getting it though as it seems pretty stylish and fun.

AI thick, playu this game on hard and tell me they thick, the game is solid on hard mode, well i found it hard anyways.
in regards to the brightness,it wasnt like that on my TV so it must be the settings used to capture,on mine it looked sweet, the ps3 version looks even better than the 360,i played iut on the 360 and it blew me away many times

That AI on hard isnt smart. They just aim better and deal more damage. Its the same AI behaviour...ie. stupid. The way this video looks is same on my TV. The game has very bright lighting. Good HDR. I've just started the game again on hard to get some more achievements. Love it.

Maybe they should've focused more on optimizing their game engine for PS3, instead of licensing video in a weak attempt to extend playtime. The aliasing is inexcusable in this day and age.

I guess so. The aliasing is there of course, but the game is so dark it's not so obvious all of the time. And it's far from game-breaking and didn't stop my enjoyment of the game at all. The game engine isn't the best in the world (been around and modified for about seven years now) and I'm just glad it runs really well on the PS3 hardware for their first attempt at a Playstation 3 game.
