PS3

"Yup guys, it's real. It [went out] a little bit early, but it's 100% ingame". The words are from Seb Downie, QA Manager at Guerilla, and it gives us the confirmation that the Killzone 2 screenshot flooding the web since a few hours is legit. Because I am a very polite person, I will only advise you to forget everything you saw of the game at last year's E3 before opening this news. This is becoming embarrassing.

In my honest opinion, the only thing impressive about this screen shot is how bad it is (especially when compared to that infamous pre-rendered trailer). It looks a lot like Call of Duty 2 for the PC when it was released in 2005. To bad this the year 2007.

The larger picture isn't scaled, it's been published on Sony backed Threespeech blog.
I think they just got the pic from where everyone else did, I don't think they're the source.

I never understood why anyone hyped Killzone 2 in the first place. It would be like EA releasing a CG trailer of a very "meh" FPS like Black 2 and everyone going crazy.

The first Killzone was so poor and flawed I don't understand why Sony didn't just go with a new IP? Did Killzone sell well at all?

My thoughts exactly. Although Black was actually worse than Killzone, both were below average.

The original didnt score that badly, the series has good art direction and an interesting universe. I think its worthwhile to make sequels as the series does have its fanbase. It wasnt perfect, but it wasnt nearly as bad as some of you make it out to be. The fact that the media dubbed it Halo-killer only compounded the flaws that were already there, and made it seem worse than it actually was IMO.

lol my feelings aswell. Killzone 2 got so much hype because of the cg (ingame) ha video. All sony fans jumped on the bandwagon saying it was going to put the xbox 1.5 in its place and suddenly hype grew it too amazing heights.

Sony got caught out before e3 though, the 360 realtime videos where being slowly leaked before e3. Like pgr3 and stuff. And ps3 wasnt as far in the development cycle, they needed to show something. They just aimed way way to high.

I think killzone was hyped mainly because it was going to be showing the ps3s true power. But I dont think its possible in what is essentially a first generation game.

It aint an easy task, 360 has the directx library, free AA and essentially pc development environments. Making the process simpler. Unreal 3 for instance works like a charm.

The ps3 has no such luxuries. The SPEs are confusing, the compression is horrible, the AA hits the framerates hard and the development environments arnt very user friendly. So if you want a game to look good you have to put the hours in.

The ps3 needs a good few games out and some practice before you will see some jaw dropping stuff, it might be getting lots of stick at the moment but you no it isnt going away and despite losing a few games to the 360 camp its still got plenty of backing.

I do think for now though im happy with my 360 and wii, once sony get some games out and add rumble im there. But I wont be buying killzone unless they have completely changed the gameplay.

edit: oh and a huge price drop. In uk its £425 with a controller, id buy it for £300 with a game and hdmi cable.

Well, the screenshot doesn't look all that impressive; however, screenshots are somewhat a inaccurate medium to judge the game. Personally, I think one has to the see the game in action, in order to make assumptions. Screenshots, usually expose jagged edges and such, and make the visual presentation look much worse, then it actually does when playing.

No one here edited this screenshot -- and chances are the "screenshot" you're talking about is the real edit. The staff isn't biased at all, but keep in mind that a lot of the viewership comes from being an xbox fansite for years. This multiplatform thing is new and I think they're doing a great job.

Sony's own sponsored blog (Threespeech) posted this version of this picture.. so unless there's some actual evidence that the "poster" screenshot is actually real -- DROP IT.

Enough with the fanboy baiting crap. There's too much going on this week for people to get into this.. just hold off until Sony shows the goods for real later this week. For the record though, Guerrilla has said themselves that this is indeed a screenshot of single player.
