I find that I never pay attention to other people's paint jobs in FM2, but that's me. And while I agree that Forza beats GT in the car handling department, GT5 will feature more cars to choose from, more tracks, weather effects, cockpit view, and the single player experience should be much better. In the end it's all about fun. To me, GT5 sounds more fun and just plain looks better.
Im actually happy thah there is

Whoa, theres like 10 stock colors to choose from for eachd i never car!! SWEET! Thats almost as cool as thousands of layers of hand painted decals, and vynals in Fora 2.
You show me another game that updates physics 300 times per second for 2000 different physic points for each of the 8 vehicles on a track at once, with visuals running at 60 frames per second.
Graphics? GT5 for the win. For everything else, theres Forza 2.
Im actually happy that there is no painting options because people will focus more on driving then painting cars and they won't drive like idiots as most people on Forza 2 do.
People don't know when to break, they are driving dirty and in the wrong directions it really is horrible.
Im playing racing sims on PC already for years and i have never experience anything as stupid as in Forza 2.
If only the physics and damage were as realistic as the graphics...
All bitching aside, this looks amazing. If they end up having the "in car" camera for all cars in the final game, I'll feel a PS3 purchase is warranted for that alone.
I just hope they make finding cool used cars easier than the turn of luck system in 4, that was annoying as hell.
Also, even if they don't do damage, they could at least include mechanical damage, as in, if you ram another car or a wall, your car takes a hit in terms of performance. Or AT LEAST get rid of the damn bumper car physics that make it so easy to bump another car out of the way in the final turn.
I honestly don't get why damage is so important. In a game like GTA or Burnout or something, sure, but if you actually hit something so hard that the car is deformed in a sim like this you'll want to restart the race anyway. Also, if the game is built by people with half a brain, then "crashing" or spinning out or whatever will get you placed last anyway.
If there is a trade-off between the game looking as good as it could and having damage then to hell with damage.
Yeah, you're right. I don't care about visual car damage. But the physics in crashes must be changed. And I don't wanna be stopped from 200km/h to 0 km/h by hitting the grass or the sidewalk. Here they should work on the physics, too.
The lighting is phenomenal. Very Very good. It is a definite step above Forza2. Question is, if it gets pushed off to late 2008, and Forza3 comes out in Mid-2009, which do you compare it to? Forza2 or Forza3? Also gameplay features... handling, paint, damage, overall gameplay?
But in the graphics department right now it has Forza2 beat hands down. And replays... forget about it. Forza2 replays suck. Turn 10 really screwed up replays, and that did matter a lot to people like myself.
Oh and remember how poor Forza2 looked 8-12 months before release, and how much the polished it? This game is at least 12 months from release.
This does make Forza look terrible- except for one very important detail- the personalized cars. I think this looks AMAZING- but I love the fact that when I watch a reply- I can pick MY car out of the crowd.
My biggest issue with GT vs. Forza though has always been (and always will be) that Forza feels REAL. The tweaks and mods you put under the hood and under the fenders seem to really make a difference. To me, GT has always been just a 'modifiable racing game' and never a Simulator. GT is- in other words- very Arcade friendly whereas Forza feels like I'm actually learning to tune a car- where the results MATTER. Part of that comes from damage- but most comes from better handling and better lap times.
I was awaiting Forza 2 with baited breath, but after getting into PC racing sims like GTR2 I could never go back. The level of fidelity in the game is so high. Day/night cycles, realtime weather effects, MoTeC generation, clutch support, car tuning, fuel and pitting, TrackIR support, and 40+ cars on the grid at a time. The cars are also fully modelled inside and out. By the time Forza came out I no longer wanted it.
However the graphics are years behind those of GT5. I'm watching the development of GT with great interest and I'm curious to see if it approaches that sort of fidelity. I'll buy it if it does. My friend brought GT4 over to show it off on my TV/G25, and it really fell short. The racing model was terrible. Forza 2 demo wasn't much better; I'd rather have 20 hand tweaked cars then 300 running off one generic driving model...
Once my eyes had recovered from the incredible trailer and the amazing screenshots, I then noticed how many cars were on the track at the same time.
AMAZING, SIMPLY AMAZING.
Now if they match gameplay, A.I and physics of Forza 2 then they will be onto a winner.
The best thing about Forza 2 for me it that the cars feel real which makes the game much more enjoyable. Plus the A.I does not just following a set path but actually races, makes mistakes, overtakes each other, bumps you off the road etc.
Even though I enjoyed GT1-4 the lack of a decent AI made the game boring.
I have been playing Forza 2 none stop since launch, am up to level 49 and I am definately not bored yet, and I have not even done much online racing yet.
Anyway, really looking forward to see GT5 with it eventually comes out.
Guys I just found this Japanese site that detailed the presentation of GT5. After running a machine translation through it, here's what I came away with:
- GT5 will run at 60fps and 1080p
- 16 cars on the track at once
- Cockpit view again confirmed
- More focus on improving AI
This is an addition to some previous statements, like real time weather, about 700 cars total, and possible inclusion of F1 cars
I remember hearing that the Xbox 360 couldn't handle proper replay angles in FM2, so it amazes me that the PS3 can render twice the amount of cars at twice the framerate (with the same blur effects) at a higher resolution, and still have those proper track style cameras for the replays. There were 14 cars on the screen at one point in the demo!
Big ups for Cockpit view in the game, loved that for PGR3 and wanted it on Forza 2. But still as some say, looking what they are focusing on in GT 5 it doesn't feel like a simulator like Forza 2. No car damage is a big down for me cause that's one big thing that forces you to drive very good all the time.
They said damage will maybe come as an addon which is better then nothing. Looks sooo sweet but if the feeling of the game is the same as GT4 I will stick with FM2.

The way you said it really says like this: OMG the PS3 is confirmed much more powerful than the xbox 360 and all my prayers we're answered.
Be real, the amazing truth about the gaming world is that almost all the time advances are made(graphically) but usually by lowering other things like details n texture etc.
oh, and I can read a little japanese- thanks for the link.
Its obvious they put all thier time and poly budget into the cars cause the track looks like ass. The cars are only 50% of the racing experience, IMO, the other half are the tracks which they once again fail at.
if it really looks like that, then its the best looking racing game i've ever seen. But it looks too good for me to believe, i have to see it being played.

I wouldn't worry too much about GT5 physics being outclassed by Forza2, that is basically what the Cell was made to do.
GT5 is going to be freaking unbelievable!!

It isnt all about graphics i think.... Im a GT fan but i think Forza 2 is much better than GT cos the cars phisics and general gameplay.... Forza 2 rocks but surely GT5 will rock too ^^
Screen 17 made me laugh my head off. If only Turn 10 had put this much work into the cars on the 360. It's obvious that the PS3 can't push the polygons that the 360 can overall. (nothing like 2D X Trees...hello last gen). The cars though, are beautiful as always.

The 360 CPU is actually better suited to branch predicting, which is greater for AI. That's why the 360 version of Assassins Creed is confirmed to have better AI, and why Splinter Cell Conviction isn't possible on the PS3.
On the other hand, the GT5 devs are amazing artists (something I don't share with Forza 2's artistic team, they're very stale... they were on the last title also, PGR3 looks better than Forza 2)
Looks really good, not much of a Forza fan, don't care for customization. If I want that, I'll play Midnight Club. I want a true sim racer, and it'll be GT5.
When you're driving on a track at 200km + who the fuck cares about trees. It'll all be a blur anyways.
