Sony released this brand new trailer of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue during their private games show in Japan called Playstation Premiere. Some new images should follow. Update: Added 15 1080p images.
to me it isnt gt5 vs forza 2. Its gt5 vs pgr4. Because while I have forza i havnt put much time into yet because it requires effort to get into the ranks and get the cars etc. But pgr3 was amazing from start to finish and the last gta I played gt2 was amazing. So in terms of fun and graphics I think its those 2 that are the big players.
graphics are amazing. wow. i'm not sure if i would trade the damage in Forza for the graphics in GT.i think that's what it boils down to. it depends on your taste, because they are both great games.

I was awaiting Forza 2 with baited breath, but after getting into PC racing sims like GTR2 I could never go back. The level of fidelity in the game is so high. Day/night cycles, realtime weather effects, MoTeC generation, clutch support, car tuning, fuel and pitting, TrackIR support, and 40+ cars on the grid at a time. The cars are also fully modelled inside and out. By the time Forza came out I no longer wanted it.
However the graphics are years behind those of GT5. I'm watching the development of GT with great interest and I'm curious to see if it approaches that sort of fidelity. I'll buy it if it does. My friend brought GT4 over to show it off on my TV/G25, and it really fell short. The racing model was terrible. Forza 2 demo wasn't much better; I'd rather have 20 hand tweaked cars then 300 running off one generic driving model...
Man i feel exactly like you, i was also very excited for Forza but i was dissapointed at the end.
PC racing sims like GTR2 are so much deeper and way more complet racing sim games as console racing games. GTR2 is a hardcore sim and thats way i really like it but Forza 2 i still far away from a hardcore sim, it's missing so much things in this game.
To me the screens are not all that impressive. Especially the 1080p ones. They look washed out and Jaggy. The reflections look very low resoultion aswell, and the texture quality of the cars is not as nice looking as F2 IMO.
Looks okay, but the images i saw on IGN looked the same...but worse in a way. These look better than those, but im not sure how to explain teh difference.

I dont think so.. by the time gt5 comes out, it's going to be probably late 08, by then they will be working on another racing game for the 360 that it will be more comparible too, likely forza 3 or pgr5
As long as the replays don't show off those ridiculous 2D trees from above or any other angle, then GT5 is superior. What a joke about the 2D trees... yes that is last gen. Otherwise... props to GT5.
GT has always looked good, but these screenshots look rediculously good, almost to good to be true.. My few gripes with GT always were that the AI usually sucks bigtime, and having no damage at all.. Also having to wait such a long time and then getting some prologue version instead of a full game is tiresome.. Having 20 cars on track is cool though, hopefully it will make others think why they usually limit it to 8.. Just hope 20 cars doesn't mean the AI still sucks, is this where the so-called power of the Cell CPU comes in? Who knows.. I also wonder how the online is gonna be, GT is totally unproven with that..
GT5 looks awesome, but in the end it won't keep me away from the Xbox 360 racinggames.. I'm enjoying Forza2 right now, and PGR4 will be out soon aswell, well before this GT5 Prologue even.. I hate waiting, and GT is not perfect aswell, but it sure looks very nice..
The lighting and car models are phenomenal. But the tracks look bland and quite ugly. I guess we'll need PS4 to match the backgrounds to the cars and PS5 to give the cars proper driving physics and damage (aka realism).
Forza2 sacrifices a lot of hardware oomph for the physics and this most probably will not match it in that department. Both seem to run at 60fps, the other at 720p with 2xFSAA and the other with no FSAA at 1080p (which is still a feat) apparently.
Looks about a thousand times better than FM2. I think GT5 and PGR4 are on par graphics-wise. I'm thinking GT5 has better car models (that photorealistic look!), but as far as environments and weather effects, PGR4 wins hands down. So things are kind of leveled overall.
Lighting is also something I think PGR4 has better. But then GT5 has ~20 cars per track at once.
So yeah, pretty much on par. One thing in common is the fact that both of them make FM2 look like what it is, an average looking game. Having said that, PGR4 is coming this year while GT5 is coming out next year--if we are lucky.
Aliasing, and not completly round talelight.. That proofs it's ingame.. But if they cannot get a carmodel look completly sharp and not make completly round circles for talelights etc yet in the carselection screen, there is no way in hell they can do it ingame with 20 cars on track..
It's funny how they keep on trying to fool us.. Not just Sony though, they all do it.. But they are getting closer every gen, what's photomode this gen might be gameplay next-gen.. Who knows PS4 and the next Xbox will produce graphics like that ingame when playing..
I agree with akim. Everything I saw was definetly cgi. Don't be fooled people. People were fooled with Killzone 2 and I knew it was CGI. This is also CGI.

While I'm as skeptical as you are, I still don't doubt that Polyphony will deliver. Hell, if Guerrilla can -- they certainly will.
funny how many of you are talking about stuff that anyone could already have seen in GTHD demo... I see, there are not a lot PS3 owners around here...
nothing is CGI - it's realtime grafics that any PS3 owner already saw in the GTHD replays if he's got a FullHD TV. It does look like this and is not faked...

Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)

It is very jagless though, as it is down sized or something.
