Looking at this, it reminded me a lot of what I liked about the first Halo. I hope they don't just leave it at that: a remake of Halo 1 on next gen. Hopefully there are some really amazing and epic battles with more than a houndred or more Covenant and Marines on the screen at once. The technology is there to be used and I hope they put it to use in this way, something like Kameo, where there were houndred of enemies on the screen. I'll not get my hopes up for this game just yet.
That's a nice vision for this game. Let's hope it's true.

Actually, Kameo had something like a few thousand guys on screen, I believe. That's insane.

Yeah, but if the characters in Halo looked only as good as the characters in Kameo, I'd be super upset.

i wouldnt get your hopes up for hunderends of bad guys on screen
to balence that in a FPS would be very very hard, maybe even impossible
its not as if its like 99nights where 1 swing will kill loads in one go
where 100s of bad guys just stand ther waiting for you to hit them lol :p
but on halo, imagine how confused the much more advanced AI would get
trying to interact with 100s of bad guys
path finding would screw up
and most importantly, imagine the poor little grunts!!!
they would just hide the whole time

and imagine the replays and coop over live
the 360 would just explode lol!!
and i dont think 100s of enemies will be fun anyway!!

but large scale skirmishes would be more hopefull i think for halo 3.
maybe 50 bad guys and 50 marines + veichals
i think that would be more then enough for it to stay fun

If you want massive-scale battle, look no further than Halo Wars. That's looking to be really, really good. Based on the pedigree of the developers (AoE anyone?), I'm confident it is going to be a solid, A-list game.

Like Jioann was saying, you can't balance an FPS with 100s of people at once, it really is impossible or else it'll turn into a hack-n'-slash with guns, with say one bullet shreds through 5+ people. No thanks.

Halo 3 is looking to be such an incredible game. With the new gadgets (trip mines, energy drainers, flares, etc), weapons, vehicles, graphics (!!!!!), music (this has always played a key role in the Halo franchise), maps and what they now offer (ex. man-cannon, scale, etc.), and last, but certainly not least, the ending to one of the best sci-fi stories ever created.....how can this game go wrong?

I think this video presentation denounces all doubt that the game will look phenomenal, it shows that the gameplay looks solid, and the video capture tools are truly ground-breaking. Even if you aren't a Halo fan you have to at least respect where the game has gone and the incredible vision at Bungie to pull it all together.

Well one way to balance out a lot of enemies is to not have them all directed to you. In the Bungie podcast they talk about how you can be fighting a group of 4-7 Covies and beside or in close proximity could be another separate squad of marines fighting other baddies. This could all be happening withing a small area, but you can still manage it if it's treated as a real war situation, where people area not just shooting you and shooting everyone instead. Plus listening to the podcasts and everything coming from Bungie it seem marines will never be in short supply and will be at your side most of the time, and the Arbiter will be around sometimes too, so even if you are just taking on a large amount of guys it can be handled well.

I see your point, and it's a good one, but then I have to raise the question: if we look at the lore novels written by Nylund then we have to take into account the fact that all the Covenant troops understand what a Spartan is capable of. In this situation of squad of marines firing on squad of covy, Spartan 117 enters the scene...don't you think they'd kind of disregard the Marines (at least partially) to try and blow your brains out as quickly as possible?

And then that leads back to the original conflict of interests where you want a strategy FPS (being able to approach a fight in many different ways, some better than others) but couldn't balance having 30 covy track you and bombard you (you'd be overwhelmed). Don't get me wrong, if it could be pulled off to where the game was still challenging yet fun then it would be incredible. But Halo 3 doesn't need to do anymore than it has already done for me to be one of the happiest gamers alive.

P.S. Yes, I am a fanboy but moreso I'm a critic and I've never had any major gripes about the Halo games...honestly. <3uBungie.

Wow that saved replay feature looks amazingly awesome. I never really thought much about it before they announced it but now I'm totally psyched.
