Well I wouldn't expect an Xbox 360 only owner to be excited for MGS4, since he won't be playing it. But if you own PS3, there's no reason to hold back your excitement. If you disagree that MGS is one of the greatest games of all time, that's just your opinion, even though it's wrong.

Think about Resident Evil 5 for example. For me that MGS4 doesn't look any better then, let's say, Lost Planet cut-scenes and that game is already 8 months old. But If you think this is the best you've seen then I have to respect your opinion I guess.
I agree with you totally about the impressiveness of the Resident Evil 5 trailer (can't believe I let that one slip my mind) but Lost Planet.. I don't know. From what I've seen I think MGS4's cutscenes look loads better than the Lost Planet ones, but then again I didn't buy Lost Planet so maybe there are some more impressive cutscenes that I didn't see.

Is the animation and overall choreography really as good as MGS4s?

I got Lost Planet, and while it's good, the animations and facial features aren't as good looking as MGS4's. When I say facial features, the textures in Lost Planet characters are just more simple looking, more curved, and the hair looks simpler and stuff like that. Compared to last gen Lost Planet is a good bunch of steps better, but this game has some of the best facial animations I've ever seen (if not the best).

speeking of unreleased games I think mass effect pwns this game when it comes to facial features and animation though MGS is very impressive.

because MGS is made by fellow japanese. duh.
ORLY?(duh) Well, it's also quite hypocritical, don't you think? Kojima tries his hardest to make the most Americanized game humanly possible, and the Japanese eat it right up. *yawn*

I, for one, love MGS, but such hypocrisy is uncalled for.

It begins and ends with the MGS series
Thank God majority of population thinks otherwise.:)

i'd say it "owns" it in terms of facial animation...but overall i think MGS4 just is overall far better animated. mass effect, despite how much im looking forward to it has very rigid and lifeless cutscenes...but its the nature of the game. i dont expect mass effect to have immortal vampires, techno-ninja clad girly-boys and monkeys in diapers flying around on-screen. but then i dont expect MGS4 to have much space travel and characters to interact with. different games. comparing them is kinda silly.

MGS maybe more western oriented than alot of other japanese games but its still very japanese. Complicated story, mechs, ninjas, etc.

You need to just deal with the fact that FPS just dont appeal to the japanese, just as im sure, jrpgs, train sims, and dating sims dont appeal to alot of western audiences. Its just a matter of taste. No need to get bitter about it.

Okay... how can someone NOT be impressed by that trailer?

It looks stunning. Those are some of the best character models I've seen all gen and the animation is practically second to none.
Characters are pretty much standard for a next gen game, as for animation it's competing with Heavenly Sword a loosing badly. Better than Mass Effect though, that's a pretty pointless one, if 360 fanboys want to rally behind a title with great animation I'd go with Too Human Right now (other than the E3 trailer... all the converse scenes look awesome) Beyond that monkeys (I'm missing the time when the stupidest thing we had to put up with was undead arms) and toilet jokes aren't impressive.

As a sane man, the only thing to get excited about in that trailer was Shadow Mosses, the rest was either I've seen it 50 times already (graphics, animation, how many cinematic trailers does a game need?) or a turn off.

This is ill-fated logic. I have PS2, but after playing through MGS1 and having seen fragments of MGS2 and MGS3 I definitely did not want to buy sequels as there are far better stealth games that I would rather (re)play. The fact that I don't have a PS3 has nothing to do with the fact that I'm not excited about MGS4. How is my opinion that MGS is not among the best games wrong, even though it's something absolutely subjective, is beyond me.
I don't know. From what I've seen I think MGS4's cutscenes look loads better than the Lost Planet ones
They look roughly equal to me, some stuff is a bit better in MGS4 (more geometry, better animations), some are better in Lost Planet (better textures, particles motion blur etc.)
but overall i think MGS4 just is overall far better animated.
In cutscenes definitely, in gameplay both games (ME and MGS4) look very poor in terms of animation.

not to impressed with the trailer because it bored me to hell. In my opinion the E3 trailer still is the best one around. Noting will beat that fight seen with vamp and Raiden

I don't think so. Mass Effect's characters have more pronounced textures and such, but I think the overall cutscene animation in MGS4 is well superior to what we've seen so far from Mass Effect especially when it concerns hair. Things in MGS4 cutscenes just look more natural than stuff shown in Mass Effect. This isn't to say Mass Effect isn't doing a good job of this especially when you take into considering the impressive aliens, but MGS4 just seems to be a step above it I think.

Animation is obviously one of the Metal Gear team's strengths. They've always done a really good job of it.

Well of course if you're expecting another action packed fight scene this one wont do it for you, but I think looking at the animation and the different scenes will impress in another way. Showing how much work is going into it.

The reason facial expressions are better in mgs4 is there is a set story, set dialogue and you cannot change what they say.

In mass effect there is so much dialogue and so many options it would be impossible to manually lip sync every bit.

Also graphically mass effect tries to do way more than what we have seen in mgs4. The detail in the aliens faces is amazing looking cg in some parts.

But apart from comparing graphics the 2 cannot be compared. They are 2 massively different games.

Metal gear solid 4 needs to be like 3 but with better graphics and the final bit of the story and its a must buy it doesn't need to do much else.

The game is great looking, and I dig the little details like Snake's change in gait as he walks over dead bodies, but that was some brutal combat. Was it that bad in previous versions? It just seemed very clunky with less-than-stellar AI.

Looking at gameplay videos (and previous games), I can't agree with that.
