PS3

While waiting for videos (when I'll manage to actually drive...), here are some captures from the demo of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue now available on the japanese PSN.
Update: Added a second series of images.
Update2: Added a first gameplay video. Low resolution 640x360, but at 60 fps (except for the stream). And as a bonus, everything you shouldn't do on a real track :)
Update3: Last video for me tonight, with a bit of the awesome realtime menu, followed by a replay of great race. 720p of course!
Update4: Snoopers speaking, here's a gameplay montage of one race I did with a white BMW, in 720p and 60fps. This is how ya win a race son !
Update5: Last update with the full replay of the race I just did, in 720p.

Wow, just wow.

For want of a better description I'm an Xbox fan boy but that looks stunning.
COULD be the game that makes me buy a PS3.

Question.
how does the PS3 handle its online play? Does it do it as well as the 360? IF the answer is yes I may buy a cut down PS3 as I don't need backward compatibility having skipped the PS2.

Just once more for the record..

WOW :)

After playing the demo I'd definitely say PGR4 is a step ahead in the graphics department, but it also runs at 30fps

Keep your fapping to GAF.
I miss the time when fapping was kept to the site on which it originated.

Anyways, I just finished playing it. There are a few framerate drops, and I get some minor tearing, but it's not bad.

The default race car doesn't have an inside the car view, and I wish you could swing the view around with the right stick like so many other racing games.

The cockpit on the cars that do have it feel REALLY good an connected to the road.

I love the reflections of the cars, the modeling is great.

The side mirrors aren't as nice as the rear view mirror, lots of details cut out.

There's a bit too much bloomy effects too, there's too much contrast.

I wish PGR looked this photo-realistic. PGR may be more technically impressive, but this just looks more realistic to me.

Nah, this puts even PGR4 to shame. I've seen video footage of a London track in GT5 and it looks just as good as PGR4. The difference is that GT5 has twice as many cars on track, twice the resolution, twice the framerate, car customization options, and more advanced physics. The power of Cell, baby!

nice videos, Blim. Polyphony Digital's GT car models have always been in a class of their own, and I see that still holds true for GT5.

Amazing, absolutely friggin' amazing man!

The first car, the masked car Nissan GT-R i believe has rubbish handling, so go for the other cars, BWM 135i, Subaru, Lancer etc they handle like a dream and plus THERE IS DASHBOARD view for those cars - the dashboard details is like the most detailed ever! In the replays the heat haze is stonkingly realistic, the tires of the 135i is just insane, the most realistic wheels ever in a racer i might add! Heck all of the details of the cars, scenery etc is incredible, considering all at 700mbs or so!

Btw, if you leave the game idle, demos of other tracks will be played, you can even control the replays to a certain degree, ones you've raced in and ones demoed, press up/down on the dpad to change cars, SELECT to change car camera and the square and X buttons zoom in and out the race.

PS: When the complete version is available, the Blu-Ray version will contain crash damage physics apparently!

Cannot wait for the full retail game now, my faith in the Gran Turismo series has been totally restored!!!

GT FTW!!! :D

I think 1080p is neccesary for this game, otherwise it just doesn't seem like anything besides a repeat of PGR and Forza.. with it's "GT TV" and I doubt it'll have something as cool as the auction, but maybe they will copy it. Anyways, it looks great on my DLP, the small downfalls, would be some screen tearing and the grass seems to be loading beside you as you race.

i've said it before and i'll say it again,
do you work for sony?
im honestly convinced

anyway GTs cars in PGR4s Cities and weather with forza 2s physics/handling/customisation would be the perfect game wouldnt it mmmm :)

Seriously disappointing demo. The midly impressive car models appear to come at the expense of literally everything else. No sense of speed whatsoever, hurtling along at a supposed 180kph feels more like 30mph. slowdown, jaggies, 2D crowds and trackside objects (like wtf?), physics & handling that were ok last gen, don't quite cut it compared to forza this gen. And the A.I? My god, after coming off PGR4 and being rammed off the road, and even seeing the A.I attempting to overtake each other, even skidding out in normal conditions/losing control in wet weather, watching GT's A.I just drive in a straight line is truly horrible. Sound was also lacking compared to what we've come to expect from a racing game now

GT5 is THE choice if you want the gameplay as realistic as it could be. AND the car models are brilliant. But the more polys they put into the cars, the less they had for the environment. Technically PGR4 is yet to be matched, especially considering the weather FX.
But GT5 is more a rival to Forza 2, which has not the slightest chance to compete with this.

Lol what? The gameplay is far less realistic in this GT5 demo if only for the complete lack of crash damage. I also feel the cars handle far closer to reality in Forza 2, while this game still feels the same as it did back on PS1. Very arcadey feeling. I realize there are driving assists, but there's no way to turn them off in this!

Really? I simply judged from what I saw in the videos. But when I'm wrong, what's the reason to buy GT5 then?

I'm sorry synce but you have be blind to think the enviroments in PGR4 aren't more detailed and all the cars on PGR are modeled in high detail on the outside and inside and finally PGR4 was made for 1080P how could this be double that.

This is my first time posting on this site and I'm not here to start trouble but that was not that good gameplay wise. It is like playing bumber cars to win the race. That's simulation? Unimpressed gameplay wise. Forza's physics,AI,car damage =simulation. I played an endurance race on forza (30 laps) on my 28th lap I tried to bump a car out of the way the AI in turn came back and bumped me out of the way and I lost the race. I was pissed off but that's enemy AI.

Looks great, makes me kinda want a PS3 when the full game comes out. Though I too can't get used to how you can just bump people out the way like before. The fact that it cripples your car is why people don't often do it on Forza 2 online, but here what's gonna stop them?

GT5 may be GT4 with next-gen visuals, but I believe that by GT6 they'll have the gameplay down too.
