5 screenshots of Sonic The Hedgehog

5 screenshots of Sonic The Hedgehog

I just found these five new screenshots of Sonic The Hedgehog, to be released later this year on X360 and PS3. The graphics are average, but it's so unusual to see blue sky and grass in a videogame these days... Good point !

Actually, the blue skies and grass are nostalgic. I think the developers and game designers have forgotten how beautiful the earthly colors can be. Now it seems as if every game strives to look like a dark corridor or Gotham city at dusk. Looking at the screens gives me high hopes that more games will try to achieve this same atmosphere. It makes me think about Skies of Arcadia. Good point, Snoopers.

Not sure where anyone gets off saying this game looks average. In motion, it's gorgeous and these screens highlight some nice modelling on Sonic. Compare that to the model used in Sonic Heroes and tell me it's not a massive step up.

@snoopers you forgot viva pinata did you? :)

Seriously. After hearing everybody say how average it looked I was expecting the worst but in the movies the graphics looked great.

i dunno... when i thought about next generation platform-games i thought about toy story-like graphics but sonic the hedgehog is still far away from that (IMO). maybe it's still to early to think about possible graphics or maybe my expectation were just too high.

don't get me wrong - sonic doesn't look bad but it's also nothing that really amazes me.

looks pretty good, but that first screen is way too much like Alma's introduction in Ninja Gaiden for me..>_<

I find it average in a sense that it doesn't exploit the capacities of the 360 at all. Low textures, bad mipmap, poor geometry. But in the other hand, I really dig the design and the feel of the game. As Omegaheat said, it might be nostalgia (and it also makes me think about skies of arcadia), but anyway, it's very refreshing to see earthly colors. Give me more !!

And yeah, the game looks better in motion, but the gameplay still needs some adjustments.

ah Sonic. I remember being totally in awe of the graphics when I played it on the Dreamcast.

This one looks pretty good. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

For some reason I always though Sonic's shoes were canvas, not shiny vinyl.
As for grass and blue sky in a game, who can forget Oblivion, and who can remember Kameo?

It is the only think that I'll give sony and nintendo a bit of a credit more than microfost! Action adventure games and platformers are hips and hips for playstaition 2 and many as well for gamecube.. Xbox is my favorite but still it is a rare fenomenon to see something like this.. :( My brother just bought a playstaition 2 and I was playing Jack& dexter the first one! a perfect example of a world with beautiful graphics huge stages and lots and lots of happy colours..

It may be uncommon to see this kind of adventure game on Xbox, but if you already own a PS2 there's nothing appealing about a game like this. Then again, why are some of you criticizing the graphics in a Sonic game? Is the talking blue hedgehog supposed to look more lifelike? =P

This game looks much better in motion. Screenshots like this zoomed in closely make the game look a lot worse than it actually is. Everything looks lo-res because the graphics weren't really built around the game being viewed from such a close perspective. But anyways, screens don't look so hot, but judging from the videos the game looks great.

Can't wait..i see they went back to how sonic was for the dreamcast.. awesome

Um blue sky's and grass is quite common in PS2 and Japanese games, RPG's etc etc.

It's only the Xbox/360 and it's depressingly westernized games that don't have colour that would lead you to think otherwise.

This game isn't looking as good as i had hoped, I hope it has a really solid story.

When I think of blue skies and green grass I think of Zelda Wind Waker... definately eye candy! I also agree with the RPG's such as Tales Of Symphonia which had the bright colors.

As for these pictures of Sonic... they really don't impress but then again the game will be running at 60fps and blazing around really fast so the still shots don't really give an accurate representation.

when you mean there is nothing appealing do you mean sonic? or jack & dexter? If you mean jack.. you can talk about a game that has been platinum in all 3 episodes.. I'm on the xboxyde always but still when something is a fact is a fact and nothing else.. Same goes for sonic! Sonic is the most appealing character ever created just because in the early stages where videogames was for nerds, sonic was the only cool thing to show around otherwise you had to stuck with good old fat mario. It became a cartoon and so many many many many other games ! sonic even bashed lara from the top 20 characters of all time.. Who ever doesnt like sonic or platform games is because they never felt something for atari and the 1bit age! Thats where sonic comes from

what are you talking about snoopers? Oblivion ,Halo, PGR3 Perfect, Dark, 0 FarCry and Half-life2 all have blue skys and green grass just to name a few. what so unusual about it?
