Xbox 360

Snoopers and Bryan uploaded this nice video showing the new functionalities added in the Unreal Engine 3, most of them for Gears of War 2 without a doubt.

That looks excellent, I wonder if the game will incorporate all those features, if so it could be really excellent. I hope more games use it beyond this tech demo. Though I still don't particularly like UE3.

You know what's fucking hilarious? Every week, Bungie kept bragging about their goddamn water effects, which turned out to be EXTREMELY mediocre. However, the UE3's water effects are basically 10x better, and guess what, Epic didn't have to hype their shit up before showing it to the public! ROFL!

Heh, the water demo reminds me of Sony's bathtub demo which showed the PS3's high LOD rendering capabilities, or "lots of ducks".

looks great, i hope the destructible environments can play a role in the game play too, like falling debris killing enemies and that type of jazz.

Hilarious, indeed. H3's water might not have looked so ugly if there weren't low-rez scaler jaggiez all over it. I couldn't stand looking at it.

Gears is going to PWN!

Disagree. I thought Halo's water was great; people seem to have unrealistic ideas of what "extremely mediocre" actually is. UE3's updated water effects look great too, but I wouldn't necessarily say better.

Not only that, but the physics side of the water in H3 is downright ridiculous. For instance, dropping a banshee into the water would cause little to no splash. Also, walking on water doesn't cause it to ripple at all. Lastly, the splashes in H3 look like clusters of mini sugar cubes.

The only thing that made Gears boring is that damn shotgun weapon.
One shot wihtout even using aim and it felt like auto aim for complete body explosion :S

I hope they tune the weapons more and balancing them out.

Gears online was just a shotgun fest at best.

There was something with the game that was repetive, don't know what, but didn't felt fun after a few times.

Cliffy says Gears was just a "teaser", while Gears 2 is the "real" one.

Just make sure it stays fun, balanced weapons and much more longer and epic!

With excellent planning and a good grasp of the hardware, developers can deliver a AAA game within two years. Insomniac does this year after year and there is no reason for Epic not to be able to do this. GeoW 2 will be AAA calibur.
People forget that epic doesn't need to develop/customise an engine first. Development probably already started before GoW was finished.

Nicely done by the developers regarding the engine upgrade.
The thing that impressed me the most is the step from only being able to use about 6 enemies on the screen at the same time (the only thing that made me not enjoy GoW as much as I would have hoped I would) to, well, probably hundreds (in the tech demo. If they will be able to render this many in the actual game is for the future to decide.) Gotta love the water physics and reflections too. Destructible environments is sure to bring a lot more intense gameplay, which we all love!
Damn I hate getting a release date thats so close but yet so far away. :P

lmao. Totally. Sugar Cube Splashes, courtesy of H3!

Soft body physics.... Destructible walls... I guess they felt they had to add those things now when the new Star Wars game is coming with their molecular matter thing :) Nice nice. Competition is great for the scene :)

I just hope it takes a more realistic/fun ammount of bullets to kill an enemy.. The thing that i didnt like at all about GoW1 was that it took like 150 bullets to kill 1 Locust..
If we are gonna be facing 100 Locust now, please lower their health, k thx ;)

I'm sure Gears Of War 2 will be great but now I'm thinking about another game that uses UE3. Some little known RPG, Mass Effect or something? How good is Mass Effect 2 going to be if they use the new version of UE3???!!! Holy crap Lois! :D

Nice to see epic is enhancing the engine a bit, but they really need to tweak the lighting a bit. I notice that every game that runs the U3 engine has an incredible amount of contrast and that from a distance the lighting looks like thick white lines outlining the characters and just looks plain bad. And it'd also be nice if they can do something about the crisco-slathered plastic-looking normal mapped skin on characters.
