There is one thing that Ninja Gaiden 2 need to have to make it look even better then it already is, its "self-shadowing".

Looks better in motion admittedly, but for the sequel to arguably THE graphical showpiece last generation, the game is looking quite mediocre. They really need to work on some of the game's textures and do something with the lighting because it looks only marginally different from the original in some shots.

But I guess if you don't take into consideration what the last Ninja Gaiden looked like and just compare this game to some of the other action games out like DMC4, then it does look great.

Old pics but game looks good. Selfshadowing is even in Ninja Gaiden SIGMA but not really recognizable. It's very hard to see. And NG2 has it, too.

But it seems that the game let some effects disappear, in case of to much action on the screen.

I hope the slowdowns from the GDC will not be in the final version. I noticed several in the "demo" lol. It's just annoying IMO.

Could you be specific with regards to where you saw the several instances of slowdown?

Old as all hell. I mean, come on, some of those are from the first leaked batch of screens.

So far the game hasn't blown me away with the visuals, but who cares really. Just as long as limbs are flying I'll be getting it.

I just noticed there are self-shadows in the gameplay. Look at the Spider enemy's leg to the left of the screen, you see his arms casting a shadow over it, and also one of his spider legs casting a shadow over his left arm in the second transition.

It doesn't look too noticeable because the shadow isn't contrasted enough from the lighting, like in DOAX2 or Sigma. I also noticed this in the new gameplay vid.

It's weird how Ryu doesn't look to have any self shadows though.

How much would shadows really show up on that outfit of his though? I'd be willing to bet "not enough" to warrant worrying about something like that especially considering how fast it moves.

They showed up pretty nicely in NG Sigma.
