Rockstar has just updated the official website for Grand Theft Auto IV. No less than 19 screenshots are thus offered, all packed into an awesome gallery after the jump. Oh, and there are two videos too if that counts.

are there ANY gameplay shots ANYWHERE? or videos even?
i mean, ok i`ts all "IN GAME", but i have yet to see ANY actual "playing" material.
like, what`s the perspective and such... sure, the in-game / in-engine cutscenes are nice, but these aren`t the stuff we will see 90% of the time actually PLAYING the game. or so i hope anyway... it still is interactive, is it not? ;)
R* never released any ingame video of their previous games. GTA4 won't be different.
What's up with the smeared textures? And why do we keep seeing these gimmicky cutscenes being used to increase the hype just as it did with the other GTA titles. The videogame demographic is much more sophisticated now and are looking for more to win over our hard earned dollars.

I dunno.. this kind of content is what sets GTA apart from its clones.

Noone is forcing you to spend your hard earned dollars on that game. If you're unsure you should just wait for some reviews and gamersyde gameplay videos. They make these videos because that's what makes a GTA. The graphics didn't stop me from enjoying the previous GTA titels, so I don't care much (just hope the framerate doesn't suffer).
Too much hate going around here.People who actually played the game said they were amazed by the consistent framerate and how great the game looked. All you screenshot detectives should give it a rest.
Btw, that LCPD clip is so spot on!It's like they put a mirror in front of American society.I'm sure it's going to upset certain people, but i applaud R* for doing it.

And that made me laugh. lol. It's so true.
If the game indeed runs well like everyone is saying, then this game could easily be THE next-gen game of this gen with no game to top it. It's possible. It's literally impossible for a game to look like Gears or COD and play like GTA. SR tried, and came close, but the performance was utterly horrible, and the bugs were everywhere. It's just not possible, nor is it worth it. And we all know this will look ten times better in person once we can actually play it. This is Rockstar we're talking about here. Look at the technical marvel they pulled-off with SA on PS2--the weakest of the last-gen systems. There's no doubt in my mind they are going to do some crazy stuff with this new tech. And I'm not just talking about shaders and poly counts (which kind of look pretty crappy, I admit), but the scope and gameplay elements will come together and change a lot of minds. Just watch.
to all people bitching over screen shots, simple thing is dont buy it!!!
i think u all know what you are going to get with this game....
not easy to make game like this, what VIDEOS ive seen, looking good.
cant wait 50 odd days to go. will fly by
Kinda tired of the low resolution videos... i mean come on, games pretty much always look better in motion, so why not show it in motion just as clearly as you show it in stills? The game isn't terrible looking, but its far from beautiful, even for this genre its a bit of a let down. But hopefully the game play will be good, and I like the euro character, the only reason I never got into GTA was because I personally hate the whole modern "gangsta" thing. But this guy looks more like a Mafia dude =)

If they can have a game cube game that looks good I'll be impressed, there are plenty of good looking PS2 games out there... And they have made a lot of ugly games too...
Am I the only one that sees what would seem to be a slight displacement filter? Weird... o.O
As long as the game delivers a good experience it will be good, its fairly clean looking, not too many jaggies or anything and it could have worse effects...
You know at first I hated the change in render style, but now it's growing on me. It almost looks like some sort of painting all the time, very interesting how they've gotten it to look that way. The shadowing is excellent, and the lighting is better than most games of this size and caliber.

I dunno, I mean, I know I'd also love to see some actual gameplay, but I think their PR team is choosing only to release these kinds of teasers to build hype, not because the gameplay is actually bad, and to make sure Volition has as little time as possible to rip everything off...again ;)
Seriously I'm loving the vids for sure, can't get enough of GTA IV. But the lack of actual gameplay videos is really starting to get annoying and somewhat concerning.
The framerate in all the videos, and these are mearly 'cutscenes', is absolutely horrible. Better not fuck this one up Rockstar!
If I think right, and I like to think I do, then I don't recall gameplay video's being released ever, by Rockstar.

Wait, you never played ANY of them? Wow
yep lol, its just never really intrested me.
ive messed around on GTA3 at my mates house back in the day, but never bought it myself. so i have never had the complete start to finish story experiance, so im quite excited for this one, it seems like its going to be the most complete version to play.
Posted by OpiZA
Hope u enjoy it dude :)
thanks,im sure i will!, infact because im not really intrested in the genre, my expectaions are quite low, which means i'll probobly enjoy it alot more.
its like if you have ever been forced to watch a romantic comedy with a GF and the genre dosnt intrest you, and you hate hugh grant. but after the film you are pleasantly suprised because you actually really enjoyed it and shed a tear on the sad bit (but of course just said you had something in your eye)... yeah its kinda like that lol...

Be that as it may, I still fear the worst when even the cutscenes already run that poorly. I'm not expecting a perfectly polished game or anything, but I sure as hell am expecting something a bit more sophisticated than Saints Row in terms of overal performance/polish.
For the amount of detail and wealth they're putting into the world, a couple of smeary textures isn't going to put me off. Besides, in context your camera won't be so up close to them for the most part if they normal gameplay is with the typical GTA camera.
Does no one realize the 'smeary' effect people are complaining about is to keep the game in GTA's visual style? Why does everyone want everything to look the same... just cause it doesn't have 4 layers of random dirt doesn't make it better then something with actual thought and design behind it. Watch the videos, the textures just ooze GTA. If they took actually images and strived to be close to real life like other games (Half life) it would look generic, and alienate every GTA fan out there.
This look, is GTA. It's amazing they could actually manage to upgrade technically yet retain the look of GTA.
