It's just that.. I think the character design is consistently absolutely disgusting. It's like they're stuck trying to "live DOWN to" the likes of Zangief and Honda and the oldness of those characters. Crimson Viper is like a... TENTH tier King of Fighters design and still manages to come out on top of virtually everyone else in this game so far. It's not that I need everyone to be dark and cool - happy is nice - but I don't want SF to overdose on goofy and completely lose track of its sense of charm and cool.

Wow some of this looks downright terrible.
If there were ever a time I would be doubting SF4, that time would be now.

But hey, this aint the real SF team and it aint really SF4 (+EX and you've got a winner). Every time I think I might be changing my mind, I remember that their last game was CFJ and I return to my senses. Jam was an awful mess and I doubt they've learned enough to make a worthy follow up to SF3.
KOF FTW!

Well, my comment about demographics was entirely in regards to superficial attributes. Comparing the likes of Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury to Tekken 5 and Dead or Alive and it's obvious how the tone of these games has changed. I don't think it's all bad of course, I like the serious emo thing too in the right doses, but I do admire the intention here to go and make something brighter, happier, something with - THEORETICALLY more charm than what is associated with fighters lately.
I can't really judge its gameplay based on a few youtube clips and a bunch of screenshots so I'm not even gonna try.
I'm in the Third Strike camp with you, firmly, so there's prolly no need for me to defend that position. However, if I step outside of my own shoes for a bit and acknowledge that SF3 initially wasn't particularly well recieved (took a long time for people to warm to it) based more or less entirely on its cast of characters and presentation overhaul, I guess it does make sense that they throw their hands up and go "OKAY we messed up, let's go back and try another strain of SF2". I can somehow respect that even though I feel a bit insulted that SF3 is treated like a screwup when I found that to be the best of them all. :|
Even if I were to find this suddenly endearing I'd still think the old cast is an absolute borefest and the new characters all look like right twats. I'm screwed either way. :)
But yeah, I picked up King of Fighters XI recently and I can't believe I haven't been playing it since DM99 on the DC. It's great fun. Iori, Benimaru and K aren't bound to let me down anytime soon. I do hope Andy's back for XII though.

If only they embraced the mentality you speak of we wouldn't even be complaining.

Who cares about this guy?! I just want to play!
Bring it Capcom, bring it!!!!
P.s. SF3 was a solid game, I know some had issues with it but it was beautiful. Now I personally fell in love with the Alpha series, but SF3 was a true evolution of SF2. I fear this game as is, but I love to get me some SF again. No more EX PLEASE!!!!
Speaking of Street Fighter, why doesn't Capcom re-release an arcade perfect collection of the whole series from SF to SF2 to Alpha to SF3 for the new systems? I'd bite ASAP. I mean I'm just dying to play the OG SF as I did when my cousin and I were kids kicking each other's s#!t on the Turbografix 16 CD.
