The official website of Mafia 2 has been updated with three new screenshots of the game, probably taken from the PC version. Superb.

A gripping story affects gameplay though - they are not mutually exclusive. Also how many people actually replay single player games? I think it's less than 5% of the gaming population, so they have to meet the demands of the majority rather than the minority.
While some people certainly appreciate game stories, it doesn't effect gameplay at all, it only affects the interest level of those before mentioned people. Take a pure gameplay game like Robotron 2084, Pac Man (or nearly pure) Super Mario Bros...

Far more people replay single player games than even play multiplayer games today. Epic said more than half of the people that bought Unreal Tournament 2004 never played online, and that should be proof enough. There's a lot of people that can't afford to buy a whole new game each time they beat one.

As far as the linearity to Mafia, besides the mission path (like level 1 -> level 2 and so on) the levels themselves are very linear. Like the rooftop shootout level, completely linear, the game might as well be Call of Duty in times like that. I think I remember in the airport level guys popping out of cover just like a shooting gallery as well.

Anyone who says the Mafia gameplay is less shallow than GTA's really doesn't understand videogames...

According to http://www.n4g.com/News-131826.aspx The PS3 and 360 are the lead platforms, not PC, so these might just be console bullshots.

Can't wait to play it. Hopefully the PC version ships the day of, since it looks like we'll be waiting a while for GTA. At least we should get APB in good time.
