i really dont see anything special about this game. its going to be a great fan-service game, but in terms of bringing in new people i just dont think it will, as with the dead or alive games after the 2nd, they all ended up looking and playing pretty much the same. and NG2 looks really uninspired to me. bland even. fans'll love it tho and i guess thats all that matters.
we don't adore all games on our system. its understanble, besides NG has never been about impressive art or putting a strong emphinsis on it.

Translation: "Boo hoo, this isn't coming out on the PS3 anytime soon so I have to act like it's nothing special. And no DOAs came out on any Playstations after DOA2 and the Dreamcast's special edition was better than the PS2's so I have to claim that the last good DOA was DOA2 on the PS2. (Luckily the Dreamcast's DOA special edition only came out in Japan so not many people know about it so I can claim that the PS2's DOA2 is better than the Dreamcast's because the PS2's special edition came out worldwide.)"

And this is suppose to compare to Devil May Cry? Hardly never liked Ninja Gaiden always felt it lacked that spark that made DMC so great. Hayabusa is a generic "I WIN!" Ninja and this new girl another example of DOA lets show as much as possible and have boobs that would break the girls back. Ahh pervert Japanese.

I agree with everyone that likes the concept more than the 3d rendition. That face is just terrible. I'm sick to death of this character style.

NG focus has alaways been about gameplay( deep combat system) accompiened with challenging enemies, not that DMC doesn't have all those but in NG its obvious

NG main strengths are combat system, animation, effects, exploration of NG world. and other abstract strengths like the difficult

though i have no problem with NG art direction, never has it been a strong point. infact it has the worst art consistancy. from rural japan, to modern city with an underground ancient egyptian architecture or art( WTF intagaki). then he puts whatever comes up in his mind

And whaddya know, it does compare quite easily.

I'd take Ryu over the horribly cheesy Dante and Nero..."Slam dunk!" ...not quite fellas

The only thing that is really missing from the graphics is self-shadowing, which makes it look a little off. And if its non-inclusion is not a result of trying to achieve 60 fps, then Team Ninja still has time to implement it into the final build. Everything else looks good though.

Meh. I personally have an equal like of Ryu and Dante and Kratos. They are all great characters and are all cheesy in different ways. Ryu acting as the silent badass ninja in cheesy cutscenes; Dante delivering cheesy lines in cheesy cutscenes; Kratos cheesily screaming every one of his lines. It adds to the fun of the character to be honest.

Ryu's silence doesn't grate on my nerves though, and I'm able to laugh at Kratos's machismo in the same way that I laugh at Conan's. I simply can't stand that young, pseudo-tough voice that plagues a lot of English dubbed Japanese games.

Character development aside, Ryu kicks all sorts of ass. This game is about gameplay first, and there aint anything wrong with that. NG2 is going to be something..

I believe they will. Couldn't stand the English voice acting in the first either.

My only issue with the game's graphics is the lack of self-shadowing. But that is something that Team Ninja should be able to implement before release.

I sorta doubt it. DOAX2 is the only Team Ninja game with self shadowing on the 360, and its frame rate isn't as silky smooth as their action games.

I think they'll more likely buy it for simply being a very good game.

While some screens look really meh, others look really really good... Some environments just look terrible empty and sterile and without any nice ideas. Well, but the three last screens just look WOW. That monster design is one of the best I ever saw. Okay, looks a bit like LOTR or GOW, but hey, every game is inspired anywhere else ^^ Well, all in one this game is gonna kick ass, I suppose, just sad I have the wrong console ^^

I never found Dante to be all that great of a character. I've always liked Virgil over Dante anyway and since DMC4 came out and I have had time to play woth Nero. I think he's a much better character than Dante. Kratos is a Mortal Kombat reject and shouldn't be in the same class with the other 4.

Ryu > Nero = Virgil >>>> Dante > Sewer crap >>>>>>>>>>> Kratos

There's already self-shadows during gameplay. All they have to do is make it more apparent. It was barely noticeable in the cutscenes in the early builds.

You can see the self-shadows on the fiends here. It was the french footage that was taken down, but I also noticed the ninja enemies casted a shadow onto Ryu when they tried to do a suicide attack.

I dont know... the gameplay looks spot on. But visually? I am not so sure. Many of the ingame objects and models looks like they are made of the same material only in different colours. Texture, and different values regarding an objects shinyness could help the game out. Another thing is a lack of evolution. Artwise it looks as if any given character from this game could have been in the 2004 game.

One last thing. Team Ninja has made characters that look scandinavian but not a single one is. Why not? It is as though the japanese thinks "blonde white people? Must be american!" Groan!

It took me a few minutes to spot the self-shadowing in the 2nd gif, lol! It's way too subtle, they need to darken it about twice as much. It seems to be just an artistic graphical problem rather than a technical one as surely it doesn't take more processing power to just make shadows darker?

Yeah I'm sure Tecmo was just dying to get that one out the door...

The gifs you posted aren't really all that compelling when there are dozens of high resolution screens in this topic that are completely lacking any sort of self shadows. The shadows on the baddy in the first pick could easily be cast by the environment.

I'll believe that they're adding self shadows @ 60 fps when I see it in the screens or in high resolution video. Regardless, it'll still spank DMC without them.
