Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)

Commented on 2008-04-12 15:33:07 In reply to KORNdogi agree with the fact there should be more split screen games, but im never going to expect it from a game like GTA. i mean, have you played rainbow six vegas in split screen, the game looks terrible. i cant imagine the drop in quality if GTA was to do it.

The Graphics really look amazing IMO, you have to consider the size of this game! and even then.. its still amazing!
I preordered, getting it 28-4 at midnight!
oh and about the complains... well see what happens when the game is released, I kinda have the feeling GTA4 will be a benchmark game.

Commented on 2008-04-13 00:40:51Depending on how far off the players would be wandering from eachother you'd also have physical access time problems from optical media unless you could cache to a HDD (texture, geometry, audio and other assets being accessed, loaded and offloaded from RAM constantly to feed each players needs). Chaka-chaka-chaka-GOOONK-chaka-chaka.
Rockstar cant build their platform on a HDD as standard to guarantee optimal commercial success (blame the Core/Arcade).
An engine like UE3 would have no problems doing a huge, sandbox like map in splitscreen if say the entire city would recycle the same texture-set over its entire span. Or if you had islands like GTA has, you could limit the players to one island at a time and the other player would warp to the new area when required (ala Halo).
Crackdown didnt have splitscreen, in my analysis, because the renderware engine isnt good at streaming, lod or mip handling (evident in the stalling, pausing and chugging when accessing new areas of the map). You'd have a super-low resolution mess of two players doubling the streaming load, causing constant jutter.
Then again Saints Row and GTA3/VC/SA PS2 got away with the same faults 100% of the time so I suppose a chugging splitscreen could well be tolerated by players. Which makes me wonder if the single player of GTAIV indeed runs SO POORLY that it simply cannot afford to be reduced further.
We'll wait and see. GTA was never known for its silky smooth technical performance (bar the rarely seen xbox versions which ran quite excellently).
As for SR2's splitscreen co-op. Let's see it before we believe it eh?
