PS3

Our friend DjMizuhara finally managed to connect to the Metal Gear Online beta and recorded this first gameplay video! He's really enjoying the game so far.
Update: Second video added. DjMizuhara got a tad more experience than before, and it shows.

i didn't see the ability to sneak up and stab people with the knife, kinda like COD4.. you think that will be in the game?

i'm guessing you will be able to do all of Snake's moves, such as grabbing someone from behind, choking them to death etc..

You can, you can choke them while standing, but if they dont respond to the choke, press X pull them down and then press right on left analog at the same time tap R1 and then hold it, usually works.

What I don't know how to do is to slit throats if you can even do that :S

God the stun knife is so overpowered, spent a game running from people with it, you cant shoot em cause as soon as you stand still they got you. Once you're stunned you fall to the ground for a good 20 - 30 sec, thats if they dont kinfe you in 2 hits though which is really frustrating.

The auto aim thing is really annoying sometimes, it'll lock onto someone nowhere near your cursor or else it wont lock on at all even if the guy is only a couple of ft away.

Also, yes it is fps slowdown not lag, you can visibly see the fps dip then go back to normal had it happen quite often in the last couple of games.

My thought EXACTLY!

The game is japanese on top notch, its not for everyone and western gamers will have some difficault time to adjust but this is what Japs like in terms of shooting...I guess.

But I have been playing it for nearly 4 hours now and its a blast!

I was going for a man canon once and some jerk killed me in the air while I had almost no health left, but i was so awesome to see it.

What I want to know is, they said we can customize our weapons, and in training you get to add grips, scopes...etc. do we have to level up so they can be added?

Ps. This game is tons of fun and I could see myself playing it with more weapons, more gear and more add-on.

What is gonna be a problem is, how much is Konami gonna shell out on the servers to keep them up and running when the game is out.

the game i had was a team deathmatch with drebin points turned on or something. so every round (and every time you die) you spend your points on guns which you customise if you so wish (i put a silencer, grip, and red dot on my M4 i think it was)

so from what i can tell, customisations and weapons in general are game based. unlike cod4 where it goes from one game to another. in this you have to earn points, which earns weapons, which earns customisations. i like it personally, feels kinda like counterstrike.

Judging from the comments I doubt anyone here has played the original MGO for ps2, especially since most are calling the essential game mechanics(which are also present in this one) rip offs of games that came out years after it. Like I said before in a previous MGO update, this is a Japanese developed game which involves as much mgs-like stealth tactics as there is action. Also, as I've said before, if you didn't understand the game before, you probably won't now.

I've heard from a few beta friends that many people are trying to play it like Call of Duty 4. If you start playing it like that, you're already playing it the wrong way, and you're going to start losing matches once more of the original and dedicated MGO players start playing this game when it's released.

By the way Sath, MGO servers were kept up since MGS 3, they just moved to the psp game portable ops and now they're moving it back to a console. I think they'll last a very long time.

Bleh, not too impressed by the game.

The controls are more complex than they need to be, but there isn't any additional depth in this game over many other online FPS... Seems like server side hit detection without client prediction, I haven't played a game that the lag could kill this badly since before QuakeWorld.

The graphics really do get choppy on some levels, and the graphics themselves aren't too impressive.

If this was a free MP side of MGS4 I wouldn't mind but I won't be paying for this...

No. There's so much variety to the gameplay that it reeks of depth.

aye, theres more options in this beta alone in terms of combat then games like cod 4 imo. cod4 is essentially a run and gun game. you have very little options when it comes to combat besides shooting a different gun, a lot of its depth and tactics are lost by the fact you can kill and be killed in a single bullet. MGO feels hella different because its not REALLY a shooter. its a stealth game. so that option is a completely viable one. and one that is advised since taking on a whole gang of people will get you killed very quickly. if you want to try to run and gun you can if the oposition is unmanaged and spread appart. but play it properly and it holds so many options. granted some mechanics i didnt like at first, like the fact it takes a full clip into the boddy to take someone down in auto aim, but thats because my mind was set to "dumb" thanks to cod4. now however i see it makes you think about what your doing. not just running up to 5 of the oposition and killing them in 5 bursts of fire. you have to work as a team otherwise any wins on your part is down to pure luck.

Yeah I played a few matches with Drebin points were each kill earns you "money" and then you keep adding customization to your weapon of choice, but other than that you can't customize it...I guess its a good thing, makes the game balanced between lvl low and lvl high players.

But I have been having a blast playing it, I will probably get the full on game when it arrives, just tons of fun.

Thanks for clearing that one out, appreciate it ;)

One thing I don't like about the game is its region locked, so you can play it across different regions.

I wanted to play with Phaethon but he is in US and I am in EU so it wasent possible.
Maybe its a beta thing or something.

Another thing is that they should make the crosshair a bit smaller and more precise so you know where on the body you are gonna hit, like headshots.
It's too big and you have to find middle of that huge circle do gain perfect shots on each bullets, but once you get, sweet!

Just finished playing a couple hours and I gotta say the game sucks balls. It's like I'm playing a mediocre PS2 shooter. Makes me a little worried about MGS4, but at least that will have an interesting storyline. Also, MGO would be better suited for Xbox 360. Hardly anyone has headsets on PSN.

I guess this is not what MGS-fans were waiting/hoping for... it just looks dull and plays too slow. Also: camera issues... line of sight etc.

And yes there are people using headsets, there are even rooms for that.

This looks awful honestly. From gameplay to graphics, it looks just BAD. It looks like a cheap version of Lost Planet MP, and that wasn't that great.
Lost planet is great online.. some cool mech fights. Its also alot prettier than this...which just reminded me of graw2 multiplayer, only with plain textures, and every body moving in slow motion.

Also for a stelth, camping game, people sure do take alot of bullets.
