Xbox 360 PS3

Here is that much (?) awaited time, the video comparison of both PS3 and 360 versions of Grand Theft Auto IV by Dot50cal. And in the end, the differences seem to be totally meaningless. Some speak about aliased shadows, 630p and other niceties, but what I see here is a slight difference in tint. But I guess fanboys will find much to argue about anyway.
We'll do another video showing what should (or not?) be the big difference between the game, the famous pop-ins.

Kids need to get your priorities straight...acting like pseudo-intellectual modern art critics rather than gamers.

Who gives a shit?
Excitebike was 8-bit, the game rocked and had nothing to do with the graphics, so blow all this pretentiousness out your ass and get a life - or get gaming.

I got the PS3 version.
Was getting the 360's, but my mate got the RROD so I got the PS3 one and gave him a lend of my 360 till he gets it back. Didn't really make a difference to me. But compareing them ysing my PS3 with HDMI and 360 with the VGA cable ( using the component they both looked the same ) the 360 looked less colourful but had really good AA. The PS3's did have better pop in's. But it don't matter yer still gonna play it ... right?

The 360 version has superior AA/Resolution/framerate/Sharpness, PS3 version handles texture pop in better and loads slightly faster.

The PS3 version looks blurry but has an overall warmer look, but you can make the 360 version the same by adjusting the saturation on the options to give it a warmer feel, If you prefer that kinda thing that is.

Well in the video the PS3 version looks better, but on big resolution screens despite the fizzy edges 360 looks better I can't tell though.

I think the Softer edges of the PS3 version suits the game better, and overuse of effects is a technique more devs should be relying on. It was the basis for Shadow of the Colossus, and that game was truly beautiful.

I'm actually gonna have to agree with n00bpwner. The PS3 may have better quality for cut-scenes and less texture pop-ins, not to mention shorter load times (which is understandable due to the PS3's hard drive), but the 360 has sharper textures when you're actually playing the game and happens to run smoother in general. As for anti-aliasing, both consoles seem to pull it off pretty well. It's as if both consoles use AA at different spots at different times, making the two look better or worse than the other depending on the whereabouts of Niko. As stated before, the 360 version runs a bit smoother than the PS3 version if you're actually playing the game. Texture-wise, both games look rock solid, but the PS3 version does have a little more stutters (especially while driving) compared to the 360 version, which is pretty unnoticable, but it is still worth mentioning. Overall, I think both versions have their differences that pretty much even the odds, but I'm still going to have to favor the 360 version.

The PS3 Version is upscaling which results in the 'blurry', or vaseline look it has, which results in hiding the aliasing.

Jesus. Could it possibly get any worse for Sony's camp? I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like WITHOUT a mandatory install. So much for Sony's Cell hype. And it's not like Rockstar don't have experienced coders on staff. Just look at the technical marvel they pulled-off with SA on the PS2.

And now with GTA4, with the rumored 100 million dollars spent on development alone (most of which on NASA engineers decoding teh Cell, no doubt), and all that experience developing on notoriously complicated Sony hardware, not to mention the extra development time spent on PS3 because of the delay, there's just no logical reason the PS3 version should be technically inferior--not unless teh Cell was simply over-hyped to sell units. But I think most of us already knew that.

I recall Sony claiming PS2 would render Toy Story graphics in real-time. Anyone else? I think they must have been talking about just playing the actual Toy Story DVD... This gen is no different. I'm just glad news like this eventually gets out and more people wake-up to reality.

lol Yea once 640p, and no AA got out there it got bad, all sites are reporting it. Seriously all this misinformation from the journalists should be fixed with a re-review, but all this info is getting out there, so w/e. Oh, from what people have played of both are having more framerate issues in the PS3 version then the 360 one. And, 60gb/20gb PS3 users are having there game crash/freeze on them(sadly), R* is releasing a patch for it. Anywho, get w/e version and have fun.

The PS3 version looks awful in that video-gamer vid, it just looks so blurry and low res, the difference isn't as bad in the 720p vid though but the 360 version does seem to be sharper and have slightly higher res textures.

No matter what, GTA IV is one hell of a game, and THAT IS ALL THAT SHOULD MATTER. I can't believe the fanboy wars erupting each time a big budget multiplatform game is released. At least, it won't happen again soon *hopes*.

It wouldn't necessarily be a big deal, but the level-headed gamers use multi-plat releases to shut Sony's hype machine down. I don't recall M$ ever claiming 360 would mop the floor with PS3 out of the gate as Sony have claimed. That's really what this is about. Disproving lies.

I came to this site to see if I could find a good comparison between the two versions of the game and find this obvious xbot fangirl ranting about Sony's apparent woes and misrepresenting whom said what about achieving toy story 2 quality graphics. And I quote:

"Gates said the 3-D chips in the Xbox would be three times faster than anything on the market and offer nearly unlimited graphical visuals. "We're approaching the level of detail seen in Toy Story 2," he said, referring to the computer-generated kids film from Disney/Pixar."

http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2001...

It's kind of sad and pathetic you can't get something as old as this right. As many people have pointed out here, the two versions look and play nearly identical with differences appealing only to personal taste. The 360 version is slightly sharper with a blue, more natural light but suffers from pop in problems. The PS3 has an HDD install which reduces load times and has an upscaled image that also employs filtering and has better frame rate. The only real advantage the 360 has is the extra DLC, which I'm sure ms will charge gamers out the wazoo for. It's funny how you rant about the upscaling - how quickly you have forgotten Halo 3? PGR3? CoD4 was upscaled and it looks stellar, so really, what does it matter? Just enjoy the game, on whichever console you have.

the difference is very minor, I own the 360 version and to tell you the truth, I dont really notice the popup, and this is the first time I play a GTA game with great framerate overall.

Maybe it has something to do with the dvd drive.. some load faster than others right?
