Here is that much (?) awaited time, the video comparison of both PS3 and 360 versions of Grand Theft Auto IV by Dot50cal. And in the end, the differences seem to be totally meaningless. Some speak about aliased shadows, 630p and other niceties, but what I see here is a slight difference in tint. But I guess fanboys will find much to argue about anyway.
We'll do another video showing what should (or not?) be the big difference between the game, the famous pop-ins.

Commented on 2008-05-01 23:14:05 In reply to revengineThis has mainly been done by the fanboys obviously, so it's to be expected whenever a multi platform game looks better on the 360 that the 360 fanboys will throw the waterballoon filled with crap back at the PS3 fanboys. Just like how all the PS3 fanboys whined about Halo3 being 630p (or whatever) and now GTA IV on the PS3 runs at a lower res than the 360 version. What do you expect the response to be?!
It takes two to play that game, and fanboys of both "supported platforms" make themselves look more and more stupid with each multi platform release.

Also note just how much sharper the textures look on the 360 version, as well as a noticable draw distance difference...which could be explained by this.

Now couple that with the thousands of posts that are littering forums about ps3 freezing.. and the fact that is now been confirmed that the 360 versions sold an estimated 60,000 more copies in the uk, making the rumoured 3-1 thing mute. And it all becomes pretty funny how the fanboys latched on to "slightly better AA" from IGN's review, and considered it to mean the 360 version useless.

Commented on 2008-05-05 14:48:54 In reply to Fc420This game easily deserves a 10...at least no less deserving than other games that have gotten 10s. (total score mind you...not just graphics)
Commented on 2008-05-06 17:20:59IMHO the Xbox 360 is the best looking version... the 720p resolution plus 2X anti-aliasing gives it a sharper, hi-res look although there's still some jaggies mainly in the backgrounds. The PS3 version looks softer, almost blurry in comparison and is noticeably more aliased and this is very apparent in the cutscenes were edges have a serrated look. I can tell it's lower resolution than the 360 version... cars look jaggier and backgrounds look slightly rougher with overhead cables tending to look more like a series of dashes than straight lines. The HDR lighting is more pronounced on the PS3 but the Xbox 360 version seems to have better colours. As for pop-in, I can't honestly say I've noticed much if any differences between both games, it's noticeable in both but never annoyingly so. Finally the 360 version has the better framerate although neither version's is perfect.
PS3 version: 640p, no anti-aliasing, FP16 HDR lighting
360 version: 720p, 2X AA, FP10 HDR lighting
To conclude both games are identical in terms of content and gameplay but there are differences in the visuals that mean that which you prefer is purely down to personal taste. For example, not everyone like AA in games but personally I find the PS3 version looks rougher and runs slightly worst than the 360 version but I love both games regardless... it really is an outstanding game on both platforms.
Peace.
P.S. Both games were tested on a Sony Bravia D3000 HDTV at 720p using HDMI and with identical picture settings.
