Xbox 360

Epic and Microsoft drop the bomb and release the first gameplay video of Gears of War 2. Two minutes of extreme violence and fire, for what appears to be an explosive hyperbole of the first title. Visually, it looks stunning.

There is no innovative gameplay in gears as it stands at all. They're just taking up Resident Evil 4's camera style, every other shooters shooting and small scale interactions with under 4 NPCs and calling it a day heeheehee.
I fail to see the innovation in Killzone 2. Just looks like another shooter with fairly decent graphics, nothing spesh. I see more innovation in Gears 2 than Killzone 2, from what i've seen so far.

Wow looks much better than the first game. I wonder if they have tweaked MP... it was fun already.

There is no innovative gameplay in KZ2 either.

Agreed, dc.

How can some people have the nerve to say it doesn't look better than the first and they haven't added anything worthwhile? Pure ignorance on their part.

It's just been improved in so many ways, and I feel that this is going to be one of the games of the year for sure. Simply because the first one was brilliant, but this is just on a whole other level.

EDIT: I'm just downloading the video on my 360 so I can view it on my HDTV :) If I thought it looked breathtaking on the computer screen, I bet I ain't seen nothing yet.
You will be it looks amazing when i play it on my HD TV, i think some people on here are forgetting that GOW1 is STILL one of the best looking and highly rated games of this generation, so these addtions to the engine and gameplay, will just make it that much more BADASS!!

Very much unlike Guerrilla at least Epic has released good games earlier. It's perhaps not innovative but it's solid and FUN to play. I'm talking about Gears of War 1 here of course. As for Killzone but previous killzone games are mediocre at best and that does not exactly build hype for me. "Yes the company that released two bland games are releasing a third bland game! Awesome!".

In the same line of arguments KZ2 is copying every other goddamn fps out there.

Heh, With graphical glitch-fested Forza 2, having half as many cars as GT5 and especially half as much beauty as GT5, EVERYONE NEEDS GT5. Also, car damage is approaching in GT5 as well so, Forza2 or PGR, whatever you say are obsolete if you take the right word.
Yes some of the best simulation games are obsolete because GT adds car damage about 5 years after everybody else and has double the amount of cars (with at least 50% being shitty hyundai cars that you don't want to drive anyways). Yes you must certainly be right about that. Also textures in gt5 are a big time lol if you ask me. At least form the screens i've seen. The cars look great, and that's it.

But i won't argue any more, you are such a die-hard artard when it comes to this that it's not worth it. Perhaps if you'd stop pissing on everything that's xbox exclusive and admit that a game isn't shit because MS licensed it we COULD have a discussion but i don't think that's possible right now.

Just watched it on my HDTV, and wow.

Looks so much better, and there's a clear difference visually between this and the first one.

November can't come soon enough :)

Looks pretty cookie cutter. Where is the innovation? Seeing the same exact game play from 2 years ago isn't that impressive. Graphics look a tiny bit better and that's about it.

They'll make a shit load of money anyway.

We've already seen new weapons and new game mechanics, and this is just the first look. 1up has already implied that there are even more new gameplay goodies for us in the future. That same line could be said for.. well.. most games this generation--including new IP--it's no more true about this game than it would be in reference to several others.

Just like how CoD4 copied the first Killzones left click to sprint? Or how Gears copied Halo 2's health system? Or how Half-life copied Doom's first person aiming?

nobelium: i was being ironic. It's stupid to call plagiarism on games in the same genre. A third person shooter is OBVIOUSLY going to share many features of other games in the genre, as is with all genres. New innovations in one game strengthens the entire genre and there's nothing wrong with that.

You think that Killzone invented sprinting? His point is pretty valid, really, what would you consider innovative? There are innovative mechanics in the first Gears of War (active reload is f'n fantastic, I kid you not)--and we've barely even scratched the surface here. What other game have you played recently that allows you to use enemies (and most likely, other players) as human shields as they bleed out?

Sprinting in FPS predates Killzone by a pretty significant margin, and using sticks for movement input (which includes things like ya know, jumping, melee, sprinting, etc) is a pretty intuitive thing to do, since you don't have to take your thumbs off the most crucial parts of the controller for the genre. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out, just a half decent game designer. That's not innovation, that's common sense.

There are truly new features already coming to light in Gears of War 2. Admittably, Killzone 2 has a pretty interesting cover system, and while cover isn't original in itself, their use of cover is pretty unique. It's a good thing that games don't really need to be innovative to be great anyway. Does anyone actually believe that unlocks (which, aren't really that innovative) make Call of Duty 4 a great game? 'Cause it's the gameplay, which is pretty oldschool Call of Duty when you get right down to it.

What made Gears of War so great was because of its over the shoulder camera fast action and on top of that, the best cover-to-cover shooting game on the market.

So why should they change the gameplay just because it is a sequal? it doesn't make any sense.

Sure, they can add new features to it like that chainsaw fight or that locust shield move, but the core gameplay is there, and that will make the fans of the game right at home.

I think that the gameplay for Gears of War was awesome, very polished, and this one will be as just like the last one.

It looks almost exactly the same though, like exactly the same. I think if you are going to debut the sequel to gears you do it with a bang, not a interactive-less set piece GOW1 replay.

It is a debut of the gameplay, I can tell you this.
More will come!

You can't ask everything new while they might have not added that in the game, maybe they have change of hearts of adding it. Or they haven't done the animation for it.

Just wait for more gameplay footages to come to a conclusion as yours, give it time.

Farooq man you couldn't be a more pro ps3 if you tried. This is a gears of war 2 thread noone cares about GT5 or what the ps3 has in its library.

Most of the games mentioned in your previous post about large scale environments were not even that good.

Its not about free roaming environments its about how fun the game is. Gears of war 1 was short but I played it on all difficulties because it was fun and I enjoyed it. I had killzone 1 for my ps2 it was rubbish I didn't even finish it.

You are basing killzone 2 arguments on videos, at least people are basing gears of war 2 on gears of war 1.

I was joking about the sprint and all that too. Our points were the same.

The guy playing the KZ2 demo didn't once use the new cover system and it was obvious it was his first time playing. The GoW2 demo was played by somebody at Epic and it just didn't look all that fun IMO. More of the same, but less of the newness.

Seriously, you're talking crap. I've just downloaded the video and watched it on my HDTV, and I can say they don't look the same. The lighting, the textures, everything, just looks so much better. I actually find it outstanding that they've managed to improve the visuals, seeing as the first Gears set a benchmark for next gen graphics.

But to try and convince yourself, and others, that it looks exactly the same ... Well, it's just foolish really.

Seeing as how short the first game was i welcome more of the same with all my heart. And it's not all the same, there are new moves and weapons in there...also more BIG enemies. That's cool. I like the big monsters.

There's more newness in this video than any other game debuted in the last 12 months. Some people here are just talking shit for the sake of talking shit. I never knew a single game could make people this uncomfortable.
