Looks like we missed these images of Resistance 2 during Sony's Gamer's Day a few days ago, so here they are now. These are all from the multiplayer mode.

Looks really great, easily one of the 5 best looking games on any platform, judging by those shots. The 40 player count worked really well in Resistance one because the game has incredibly good netcode and the levels were HUGE. Level size is very important for higher player counts.

I think it looks fine but I really don't get the COD engine bashing. COD4 looks f'n fantastic, despite the texture assets looking a little muddy up close in the console versions. The PC versions textures are indeed quite a bit more capable (no small thanks to filtering, I'm sure) and the games overall look (in both versions) I would say is quite a bit more attractive than this.
The 360 and PC versions of COD4 have the exact same texture assets. It's just filtering that makes it look different. These shots also look WAY better than COD4's, although COD4 is no slouch. Are people not even noticing what is probably the most complex looking deciduous forest ever in a video game? I mean COD4 has nice trees too, but never this much and never that detailed. These environments will probably also be much bigger than COD4's MP levels.

It does look good though. Very clean, which I suppose is why people make the steam connection (which is uh, an ancient graphics engine ;)). Still, considering the fact that Call of Duty still has quake code in it, I think it's pretty impressive that it pushes the DX9 platform further than just about any other game on the market. Their engine tech is quite a bit more capable than id tech 4, even when followed all the way through to a game like ETQW.
People are making the Steam connection (ummm Source engine, not Steam), because they're fanboys, nothing more. Id tech 4 does a lot of things that the COD4 engine can't do, but it is NOT designed for outdoors environments. Shadow volumes anyone?

As far as SP versus MP, it depends on many many things. SP has AI, more physics, maybe cutscenes. If a SP game is more linear they can have more detail, if the MP levels are smaller they can add detail there. It's not a very simple comparison.

There has already been video of this exact stage in motion. The environments looked great, but obviously the animations and special effects aren't done yet. The game is still fairly early, they have many months to make things perfect.

It's called you don't have a clue how they are going to manage the multiplayer servers. one thing is to get a few dedicated servers..but this aint like a PC game that you can rent a server or whatever ...in this case the company would have to host loads of servers and they don't get monthly fees for it so..how are they going to earn enough money for the servers maintenance etc for the years that will come?

The first shot kinda reminds me of those early Alan Wake screens that I whitnessed many moons ago. Looking good for a multiplayer. Remember that it`s yet to be finished and it will be supporting some Huuuuuuuuge battles with up to 60+ players (we hope).

As long as the framerate holds out, then I`d soon take it off their hands and dabble in its lushness.

Uh, okay. All 60 player servers are going to be dedicated servers, and yes, I do believe that they'll be up and supported for a good duration. No, these games probably won't have the longevity of your average PC release, but then again, what console game does? There will be plenty of dedicated servers to play this game on.

Anyway, it hardly matters--what you implied is that 60 man servers were going to be laggy--and the fact of the matter is that all 60 man servers will be dedicated servers. So their ability to manage that network really has no impact at all on my original point.

You're right about one thing though, it's pretty amazing that they manage to run their own dedicated server network, for free, when other people have to pay for an almost exclusively peer-2-peer system!

...not that there isn't at least one Xbox game with its own dedicated servers (FFOW).
The 360 and PC versions of COD4 have the exact same texture assets.
There's a surprising amount of detail missing from the gun textures in the console versions, if it's just by merit of the lack of texture filtering. Either way, it looks a damn bit better.

And you're right. I meant source, woops.. and no.. this game does look very "clean"--there's certainly some merit to those comparisons. And while it may have some scale and some lush trees, I'll stick to my previous statement, at the very least, COD4 has better looking gas stations ;)

It has a very unreal look to it.. cartoon-like, even.

looks quite nice but very very blurry. I almost thought there was something wrong with my monitor first or my eyes. It got that half life 2 look but not sure it is noticably better. I know about that hl2 mod cinematic something and with that I give the edge to hl2 with some lengths.

Faces look really good =} thats about it, just like every other ps3 game =S but I'm really looking forward to this one. I liked the multi in the first so this shud be rad! =}
