TheFuriousOne: i will, as per usual, call upon nostalgia being confused with quality. SF2 was the very best title of its kind when it was released and it dominated the market for a long time but the genre has evolved since then making SF2 very simplistic and basic. There are no counters, no parries and no nothing except for the basic moves and 3-4 special attacks. The game lacks depth and denying that is just silly. Sure people will claim the game to be balanced and bla bla bla, but even if it is it still lacks depth and to me that means it won't keep me entertained for long. And yes, it's a goddamn mystery that it's still played. I can understand that people love it since they played it when it was new, but damn...i don't think anyone but the old fans and maybe some retards that have been swept up in the hype finds this interesting. There are a lot of old fans though, to be sure.

I played loads of SF2 when it was hot and i can still enjoy a match, sure, but its far from the best fighter ever, and i do think this is an objective statement. Even later parts of the series like 3ts adds new elements that make the gameplay more interesting. Such a simple thing as parrying to get frame advantage adds a whole new level of playing, since you really get the upper hand if you manage to anticipate your foes next move. Please give me an argument for why SF2 is best instead of just going "derp, it's awesome and people still play it so it must be the shit!"

Also if you call on the moves list in VF to be the only thing that adds depth to the game, then you obviously never played the game. Or you went in there and tried to pull off a shoryuken, got beaten to a pulp by someone who knew what the game was all about and then dismissed it as bad.

Megido: Just check out some high level play on youtube or something. Really, you're implying that the entire SF franchise lacks depth, but that's clearly not the case. Fireball traps are pretty low level gameplay, and if you find two people who are even remotely aware of the depth of Third Strike's systems you'll find something that's methodical and strategic. There's certainly nothing that makes GGXX inherently better.. MvC2 has loads of flash, but that doesn't make it instantly a great game (even though it is).

You're right about one thing though, SF2 is not the best 2D fighter ever. It's still pretty solid though, it may not have very advanced movement, a striking move list, or a complicated system, but it's tried and true.. it just works. I couldn't even play vanilla SF2 though. Hyper Fighting FTW.. which is already on XBLA.

The only upcoming 2D fighter that I'm really, really hyped over is KOFXII.

Megido I never said VF sucks (lmao trying to dragon punch no I do read the move lists) even with my limited experience of VF I can see its similarities to SF timing and spacing is critical. However Tekken has just become a joke in my eyes, pointless juggle strings.

You are only looking at this from your own narrow perpective, also calling people retards for still playing it is itself a retarded statement, lol what are you 13. You are the one confusing it as being nostalgia, Hyper Fighting may of been just that! Because it not played that much until it was brought back on to xbla, however Super Turbo is still as popular as ever. Listen to GriftGFX has said go up on youtube watch some high level play Daigo, Afro Legends Choi are some of my favourite players.

Actually Kage has a shoryuken move but that's beside the point.

i only watched the first few seconds, that was all i needed. That's some high level shit right there! Sagat spaming the fuck out of the low tiger watchamanacallit. That Daigo sure is great. The only thing that even makes this vid a LITTLE interesting is that it's obviously possible to do a cancel on one of his moves resulting in a short dash. Other than that iall i can see is hadouken spam and jumping.

lmao thats orignal Sagat, you have to enter a special code to get the Super Street Fighter 2 version of the characters, notice how he doesnt have a super bar, O.sagats game is all about fireball spam because he has super fast recovery. Noone respects you for picking him btw...

Choi vs Cole http://youtube.com/watch?v=VVk1DV7t2OM - good match to watch because Fireball spamming doesnt work against Dhalsim.

Watch this game, Daigo vs Afro Legends. 2nd Round those are skills
