PS3

2K Games also wants to stand in the spotlight a little so they took the opportunity to announce Bioshock for Playstation 3. The game will be released in October this year, and this version will have new features and content which will be revealed later on.

2K Games press release:
2K Games Injects PLAYSTATION®3 System Owners with Genetically Enhanced Version of BioShock®

New York, NY – May 28, 2008 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that BioShock®, the “genetically enhanced“ story-driven action game, is in development for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system at 2K Marin. The PLAYSTATION 3 system title will be released in October 2008 with new features and content that heighten the award-winning experience.

BioShock for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows® was released in 2007 and received numerous Game of the Year honors from prestigious organizations including Associated Press, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Game Informer, Spike TV’s VGAs and Paste Magazine. BioShock’s extension to the PLAYSTATION 3 system will bring exciting new content to this amazing title and reach many new players, while giving the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year.

“Since BioShock for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PLAYSTATION 3 system when it debuts this fall,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”

BioShock is a narrative-driven action experience that allows players to do the impossible as they journey through an amazing, immersive and terrifying world. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad. BioShock not only challenges the players’ capacity to adapt and survive, but brings to question their values and commitment to the inhabitants of Rapture. With smart and adaptive AI, no encounter ever plays out the same, while numerous customization options provide gamers with an experience that adapts to their playing style.

It seems as though the new features will be downloadable on the 360/pc versions though nothings announced yet plenty of interviews hint at it, for example the one on this page.
I agree, it would be a big disservice for those who bought the 360/PC versions to miss out on new content. I would be willing to pay a small DLC fee but I will not buy the game again even though I own a PS3 as well. It's not even an option for those who don't have a PS3.

Got the same feeling when I heard about the Eternal Sonata port.
Yeah that's really annoying. I picked up ES only to find out shortly afterwards they announced a PS3 port with extra features. Some of the features I don't care but what I do care for is they will be adding in extra story elements. Grrr.

I'm really not trying to be a dick, but it doesn't look as if there's ANY graphical improvement so far. If anything, it looks worse.

My interpretation of the quote is that they mean to make the PS3 version must have for people who already own it on the 360/PC. In other words, try to make them double dip.
Pfff...I wish them the best of luck with that one. Fuck if I'd ever REbuy a game for a few new features...especially one that was only worth a single play-through.

Another shining example of how the PS3 struggles with the Unreal Engine.

Blind's response is the correct one. Forget any difference in graphically quality, this is a great game and I for one am just glad more people will have a chance to appreciate it.

I wouldn't say that. I enjoyed the game, but it was nothing that System Shock and Deus Ex haven't done years ago. I hate to use the word "overrated" but I certainly didn't think it was as good as a lot of people made out.

The setting and atmosphere are the best parts of the game, and I think Fallout will top it for the wierd, futuristic 50's thing. I also can't believe they won't be releasing the new content for the PC/360 as well, this reminds me a lot of Oblivion.

What a stupid comment, did it struggle with Unreal Tournamnet 3, ya know the game that hasn't even appeared on the 360 yet?

Lmao and to say that when all we have are 2 photos, how can you type something as ridiculous as that when you haven't even seen it running?????

its not a stupid comment, UT3 was made by Epic, so they know how to work things, but every other UE3 game, not done by epic, has had a noticeable problem on ps3 with UE3

I kinda agree on the failed images point.
i don't see the point of announcing a title and attach to it, two sub-par images of a probably, at least competent port.

It's stupied decission, or signal of bad news to come...

Bioshock relied heavily in texture work to have such a great look.

I wonder if the PS3 can pull similar visuals with less Memory available.
