PS3

Now that most of the fans have completed Metal Gear Solid 4 from head to toe and know all the dialogues by heart, it's time to please ourselves with gameplay videos showcasing the best moments of this already classic fourth and last episode of the Metal Gear Solid saga. More details after the jump.

For today's clips, let's begin with the impressive bike chase of Act 3 - Snake shooting ennemies in bullet-time while riding his mama's Harley is a quite priceless sequence. I don't play very well at the beginning, but it goes better after that.

Second video, the arrival at Shadow Moses nine years after the events of Metal Gear Solid. A nice sequence that should revive the memories and nostlagia of the most hardcore fans.

Third clip, the full infiltration scene of the Outer Heaven deck, performed without a kill nor alarm. Not as easy as it looks !

And finally, the fourth video immortalizes the final fight of the game, a bare-hand duel under the sun concluding the Metal Gear Solid saga in sweat, blood and old men groanings.

More videos will follow later, don't hesitate to write suggestions in the comments if you'd like to see a specific part of the game. Enjoy !

i have to say that in my first playthrough, the bike chase, especially when that vehicle flew dangerously close to my skull cap, fighting the gekko's with a rocket launcher, taking pics of the booties in the white screen mode and blowing helicopters out of the sky all made me especially horny,

First of all, you guys are brainwashed, I DO NOT own a PS3, and i'm most likely viewing GAMEPLAY vids off the internet on a laptop screen, NOT an HDTV, but i IMPLORE you to IGNORE everything you've heard from PEOPLE who have actually PLAYED AND SEEN the game in HD, and consider my word alone, as gospel. MGS4 is a lie.
I saw fit to paraphrase your rants..i also posted the verbatim ones on multiple sites (names have been changed to protect the bitter) even self confessed xbox fanboys are disturbed by the amount of vitriol you have against this game. YTMND!

Actually Halo 3 is the most overrated Game in Gaming-History. MGS4 just deserves the Hype and the Review Scores.
Right....credibility down the drain right there, with a touch of hypocrisy added in the mix. Gotta love it!

Graphics are ok, gameplay looks average at best. Atmosphere is well done and I'm sure the game has a great story...but that won't pull me over. It does seem to show some more variation than I initially thought, but it just looks too awkward and dated. I'm trying to like this game so I can finally get something worthwile for my PS3, but it's just not all that appealing imo. I'm sure people think it's a great game (for whatever reasons that may be), but it doesn't take aways that Lebato's points are absolutely valid. Even though it's not the general public's opinion.

GTA is my GOTY so far, but it didn't live up to the hype. A lot has been improved on, but so many things are still missing or, even worse, have been removed. It seems like they spent so much time creating the city and the story, all other elements took a back seat. Gameplay is tight, but the variation has gone out of the window. It's basicly turned into an action shooter but set in a sandbox environment. The city/level design is the best I've ever seen...it's a true feat, but it's just not what I had hoped for.

Halo3 was way overhyped as well, MP is great...SP is absolute rubbish! Anyway, MGS4 it is...

Two questions snoopers:

1. If you have a spare set of usb keyboard and mouse hanging around, can you tell me what MGS controls like with Keyboard and mouse?

2. What's your final rank when the game ends? I've seen what it takes to get the highest rank and it's quite a hard thing to do(zero kills, less than a certain amount of time to beat).

mgs4 is just great, the very best interactive movie i ever watched :) (i loooooove long cutscenes)

anyway: the gameplay owns, its a great mix between realism and fiction (and the fiction still seems "real" for the most part), the graphics are ultra atmospheric and sometimes even technically quite stunning...

I understand if someone wont buy a ps3 just because of that game, but if you dont like the system, stop flaming in every gaming thread that concerns the ps3... (or the 360 on the other hand) It's just plain childish and stupid...

And yes, I own a PS3 and owned a 360 ( I didnt buy a new one after the 5th RoD)

both consoles are really cool and anyone who owns one can be happy, that's it...

P.S.: comparing a console game with crysis, geez, you can be sure that the cryengine2 won't look as good on any console as on a highend pc rig in ultra high settings, but IF you compare it, dont just compare the grafical effects but the atmosphere, the gameplay AND of course the story aswell. In none of these but the grafics (in ultra high) crysis can compete with mgs4 or many other console games ( on both systems), it just is a (fuckin damn) nice grafics demo for fast pc's (and I finished it 4 times now)...

don't be offended, be nice to each other, and be happy that we all love games :P

Well that's a GAME. When you have a 90%+ camo and you're in shadows, you're considered invisible. If you don't move enemies can't spot you.
But you were moving :| ......... a lot.........

it's meant to be appreciated by a certain crowd and can't be judged in the same way you'd judge a normal game. It's a different experience.

Omg man what is up with your hate for this game. Video games are meant to be experienced for yourself you cant just look at a video and think you know how it feels 2 play them. Its like some noob seeing an expert Ninja Gaiden player play and say this game looks easy after looking at some vid but the game is all about the gameplay and actually playing. This game is very different than any other game as it has always been focused on cutscenes as well as its gameplay. You may not agree but this game does deserve alot of its accolades in some cases, it is not perfect and in fact though some may disagree is a very niche game as I know many people who skip every cutscene in the average game but the level of production value and great storytelling (rare nowadays it seems in games) as well as some very cool gameplay segments that just surprised the hell out of me if you don't play the game you really cant judge what most of those who have say about it. I wanted to hate this game but it does many things far better than any other game.

I agree the gfx aren't that good only the character models look good everthing else is just meh and the A.I if there is any is just horrible. After beaten the game I feel disappointed just like I was with MGS2 and somewhat MGS3. I'm just gladly my bro brought it I would have been piss off if I wasted 60 bucks. But anyway I felt that MGS4 before it came out wouldn't top the frist MGS from the beginning and for me I was right.

Two of these sequences, specifically the bike sequence and the final fight, have the most jaw dropping graphics I've seen in a console. When I was in the bike section I almost stopped shooting because I was staring at the screen in disbelief. And the lighting in the fight scene is the best lighting I've seen in a console game. I wasn't expecting this much from MGS4. It's also the best game so far this gen for me.

Btw Snoopers, are the wmv's the original videos as usual?

What is that? You wanted to hate this game? I don't want to hate any game, and I don't hate this game either. And I'm not judging gameplay too much, and when I do I clearly state what I see as a problem, which playing it makes no difference. You see bad AI and you don't have to play a game to judge it when there's so much evidence.

Fanboys get all crazy on me but I've said very similar things to many other games, including Splinter Cell Double Agent which I OWN and others like Pro Evolution Soccer. Praise where praise is due and criticism where criticism is due. Of course it's not greatly noticed because fanboys are not going to get defensive about a multiplatform title or an "exclusive". In fact, when I said that the graphics in Halo 3 were a huge disappointment and pointed out all the problems, Halo fanboys got upset.

But whatever, that's how it works I guess. Tell the truth and fanboys get upset. And I'm not calling you a fanboy, but fanboys are getting very upset, in fact, one of them told me "you stupid comments!" lol

I agree the graphics are a bit overrated. Let me just say the main character models look amazing, which they always have in a MGS game, as does the atmosphere effects and character lighting, but everything else isn't really up to par. The gameplay animations aren't anywhere near as impressive as the cutscene animations, which again, was the same case in previous MGS games. Even the environments can sometimes have pretty basic lighting and shadows, which you can see in the Outer Heaven video, and also in some indoor rooms if you've played the game.

And I still stand by my comment on the cutscenes. There are some amazing ones, but there are others that are just drawn out for too long with characters just rambling on and on. How some reviewers skip this part of the cutscenes and go on to only praise the good ones is beyond me.

I wanted 2 hate it cause I really love most of the games I have for 360 and before this didn't see any point of playin PS3. But I still hope it comes 2 360 since I only play it on my brothers PS3. I just feel there is a reason this game gets the accolades it does by the masses not that it deserves them all, personally I think it deserves a 8.9 but you gotta see the draw to it.

lets be frank here guys, the gameplay is nothing special here. replace snake with sam fisher in those videos and you wouldnt even tell a difference.

unless of course im missing the revolutionary part in those videos?

journalists did a great disservice to gamers by hyping this game to heaven. these videos look like very basic gameplay wise. ive been sneaking around stupid enemies since splinter cell 1 on xbox 1.

now im not saying the game looks bad (lord knows i loves me some stealth), i'm just saying this looks like every other stealth game gameplay wise.

The thing is "Execution" people...

True Crime: Streets of NY was a much better looking and featuristic game than GTA: SA in the last gen, but it was totally inconsistent, while GTA: SA was executed to such a perfection that it made an impact and still holds it in its genre.

What MGS4 stands at is the perfect marriage of movie-like story-telling and interactive entertainment... something that even Mass Effect tried but fell into long spans of boredom. I will buy it no doubt when it comes to PS3, but to that end... MGS4 takes the crown with about 30 hours of gameplay and stunning cinema achievement. I haven't seen a single game that focuses THIS much on character development... just watch the 4th clip, you'll know, but its just a single one... You need to experience this game to actually know what everybody means.

How much detail goes into this game is obvious through the technical graphics supremacy... yeah it doesn't have as much use of normal-mapping as most of the other games in this generation employs, especially Epic's game like UT2007 and gears of war... how MGS4's visuals transcends other games is through usage of real-time nuances...

The water in this game is STUNNING, you NEED to see that, its totally interactive and simulated... how textures from each environment blend onto octo-camo, and then can be saved to be utilized lated, is another story... the interactivity with vegetation is a blast to see too, so that's basically that stuff which makes real-world stuff come alive into a game which primarily focuses on story-telling.

As an owner of all the current gen consoles and a pretty decent PC, this game is one of the best looking console games i've seen. It doesn't beat Crysis but i think comparing console games to PC games is pointless anyways. It is an impressive game though, and it's great how you can either play through run&gun like Gears of War (and end up having more fun than GOW too) or you can sneak about through what is some absolutely fantastic AI (if you bother to actually crank the difficulty up). It's one of the best games i've played this console generation, and my only complaint is that there isn't more of it. I think a lot more games should go this route of letting you play how you want to play the game, it's more in keeping with what i think a lot of people expected from this generation of consoles as opposed to just nicer graphics.
