I personally think Square is joking with Microsoft. This and IU both look so generic. What happened to games like Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve? We need THOSE kinds of RPGs. But hey I'll give this a rental at least
You are talking about the days when Square-Enix was Squaresoft and when Sakaguchi was still the main man there, those days have gone my friend.

I would love to see a new version of Parasite Eve, but I know that SE would screw it up.

Since Square merged with Enix all we have seen is generic stuff, FF13 and FFV13 don't seem to be any different either.

IU doesn't really fit into that though as its been developed by an outside team, SE are only publishing the title from what I understand and the game was being developed long before MS went to SE about publishing it.

Personally I think the sucky Unreal Engine 3 make this game looks weird... and not that good.

Really? IU looks seriously outdated to me, looks like a PS2 game in High Resolution with extremely flat looking textures like most JRPGs these days. LR looks much richer in texture quality and scale, its the probably the first JRPG i've seen to actually use some bump mapping and good HDR Lighting.
Lost Remnant looks like a colored UE3 game. More colors than Lost Odyssey, but still an UE3 game, thus it has the standard lighting and texture quality you can expect from all UE3 games.

Infinite Undiscovery is tri-Ace's custom build engine. And if you weren't aware, many of the early shots are from early builds, as the site keeps up updating a few pics. If you compare the original pics with the new ones on gamersyde you can clearly see the changes: the lighting is better, the characters are more detailed, and the texture quality took a huge leap. So if you've only seen the old stuff (and not all of the pics are updated, only a few) then of course you would think it looks bad.

I said try KOTOR again and again until you love it damn it!!

EDIT:

How far did you get in KOTOR?
I won't try it again thats for sure, but maybe a next-gen KOTOR makes me buy that one.

I don't remember, I got hammered from the Sith lord, the bald guy, no not the main Sith Lord, his "vice" if you could clal that.

Just not that far to be honest.

this is looking really nice.. lots of little details in there... models remind me alot of Mass effect actually.

Is this going to be real time or turn based combat though?

I think its a turn based strategy, at least from what I can tell.

Why couldn't they use the White Engine for this?
It wasn't finished at the time.

Looks fantastic, the best looking JRPG by quite a margin, cant wait for this game.
If you're talking about unreleased JRPG, then no. FFXIII/Versus look way better.
If you're talking about soon to be released/already released RPGs, then I thought Lost Odyssey looked awesome too :)

don't be dumb. the engine has nothing to do with it. not every game artist is as talented as those at Epic. I work extensively with UE3 quite a lot. it's great.

How would you know? They have't released any in game graphics for either of those yet. That said, I'm sure it'll look better. It's what Square's pumping most of their money into, after all.

As for this, I think it looks leaps better than Infinite Undiscovery in terms of the two batches of screenshots released recently.

I think it looks pretty bad. To me the characters are bland, the environments are empty and boxy. There just nothing here that catches my eye at all. I can hardly tell that this is for 360/ps3.

I guess i'll just have to hope for it being fun to play.
I'm with these guys...sorry, but both Infinite and this look very bland to me. Sorry, but after playing Lost Odyssey by Myst Walker, I cant see these games as "the greatest or looks amazing" in my book. The textures aren't up to par, the characters look generic and the animations lacking...Maybe I'm too hardcore to be posting here... I feel like just because someone says RPG everyones eyes get glazed over and seem to go stupid!(ex. Tickle me Elmo) I would love more than anything to have 6 or more new RPGs to my collection, but I refuse to add crap just for bragging rights! Once Myst Walker made there studio and did Blue Dragon, I had everything confirmed on my faith in "Them" and once Lost Odyssey dropped, I knew I was going no where. Square has yet to prove to me there worth my money after those key players left. Infinite looks better between the two games, but has a long way to go. If the modeling and textures where as great as the High Rez building in the Inf. trailer and applied to the people I would feel more confidant in both new titles. Yes that's not all the game are(graphics), but I want to play something I won't feel I waisted my eyes time on...Im taking a Crap-Solid on this game...

You know what...I take back the Infinite comment. I think that game has some hope. I just seen some of the latest screens and I think its shaping up. Characters look a lot better, but the levels look bland...

Not sure about this or any JRPG coming out in the next few months. Personally i'm waiting for Mass Effect 2 . Lost Odyssey was solid but these games look kind of average.
