Xbox 360

Midway and Epic Games have completed their work on Unreal Tournament 3 on Xbox 360, and we're glad to have the game before its release. It will hit the streets in Europe and the US next week, so enjoy the first mission in the singleplayer campaign.

Unfortunately I never got to try the Playstation 3 or PC version, so I will have to leave out the most interesting part: comparison between the versions. I can say though, that the framerate holds up well and the game looks fantastic.

The Xbox 360 version is released 8 months after the earlier mentioned two, and features the same maps and developer-created content, plus five exclusive maps and a two player split-screen mode.

You can play the campaign mode by yourself or up to four friends, which consists of a story shown through video sequences between the missions. The Instant Action mode lets you play against bots using your prefered settings, including a big bunch of different difficulty settings.

The bots work well, the harder difficulties aren't all about the enemies doing headshots from large distances as it usually is, they move well and do tactical moves to take you out. You will see more of this in the video below, as I finish off the introduction of the game in Normal difficulty. We will post another video closer to its release showing more of the campaign mode. Let us know in the comments section if you want to see any particular map in action too!

Also, the video below is 480p. I got a 720p card (thereof the 720p images), but my processor is unable to handle video capturing in 720p. This will change soon though, so hopefully 480p is good enough for now and a week or two from now.

If you're looking for the best UT experience go with either UT2k4 or the original. If you're just looking for a little bit of fun(or if you just want to look at pretty graphics for no apparent reason) then having a game collect dust afterwards, then by all means feel free to buy this game. The fact that there have been less and less servers since release is proof enough of how bad this game is.

Awesome footage.

It's impressive how EPIC managed to get rid of the texture pop up in the Xbox 360 version. Something that even the PS3, with a game installation couldn't handle as well.
err the Xbox 360 version got texture pop up too.

Dated gameplay. Couldn't have said it better myself. Gears and other titles brought so much to the table, I just can't go back to old-school UT.
Glad someone agrees with me. I couldn't get myself to play the game for more than 3 matches. Halo for instance is a very similar in gameplay (minus the speed) but it feels so much better, I'm speaking of Halo:CE the sequels played even smoother. UT is a PC game and should stay on that platform....

Yeah, I used to play Halo CE (xbox) lan tournaments all the time. That game did a LOT.

Gears 1 did what Halo 1 did... It revolutionized the console shooter.

If anyone's going to be playing one Epic game this year, it needs to be Gears 2. No question.

UT seems more relevant now on consoles than it is on PC's anymore. UT3 bombed so hard on the PC it aint even funny. The number of active players at any given time is literally in the hundreds (and usually well under 500). It's sad, but PC gamers don't seem to care about Unreal anymore.

It's not our fault that they messed up big time and seemed to think that graphics matters more than gameplay, which is especially false on PC. It doesn't matter anymore however, as they think they've done no wrong and put the blame on us PC gamers and are also proclaiming that they've abandoned us.

They haven't abandoned us, they've just shifted their focus. There's a difference. You could say that IW has done the same, but COD4 is brilliant on the PC. Just because they're focusing on several console-first-PC-later titles, doesn't mean that Epic is done with Windows as a gaming platform all together.

And yes, I agree, it is their fault. UT3 was launched at the wrong time, and it's not what people wanted. It felt like 2k4 with a new coat of paint, which means that people are likely just going to play 2k4 instead. That's precisely what UT fans are doing, on the PC, more people play 2k4 and UT99 than UT3.

The PC FPS audience has grown up a lot since 2004, Epic needs to get with the times. You can bet that BF3 won't flop. Hell, more people play Crysis online, and so far as the multiplayer aspect of that game goes, there's not a lot of content.

More people play UT2004 and UT!?

I reinstalled both of those games a few weeks ago and could hardly find anyone on the server list.
PUG might be thriving, but otherwise they are both pretty much as dead as can be, unless you are referring to some mods which don't count.

I'll have to go over my friend's house to verify, but from what I've seen (including high-def previews), the graphics doesn't look as good as the PS3 version. It could be the way they tape it, but even with previews I've seen, there were obvious differences, but we'll see if they ironed them out or not. Heckers, only when you pump the graphics up a bit on the PC version is only when you'll see the PC have better graphics than the PS3 version. I own the PS3 version, but I've seen the PC version, and I'm holding judgment until I see better for the 360. The details on the armor look a little muddy, and the sheen from the weapons seem like their missing a filter or something... like I said, maybe the recording technique, but there was muddiness in the high-def previews too.

For anyone saying there's no pop-in, look at 5:48, the textures pop-in on the gun just like the PS3, and the environment pops-in a few seconds later, so far (and again), just like the PS3.

There's definitely a filter off of everything, it's not just the guns. I can see now that me and my friend will have another argument *sigh*.

Yes, I'm a graphics whore. :/

http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/

UT2k4 = 3907 players
UT99 = 1098 players
UT3 = 323 players

Not particularly thrilling numbers for 2k4 or 99, but still manageable communities, which are fine and relatively healthy for older games.. and UT3.. well.. not so much. I still have UT99 (and Q3A) installed and have no trouble finding populated games.

It's even worse when you consider that a reasonable number of those UT3 players are clan matches.

It seems like UT3 on PC has been getting more players lately though. I just wish more people would play good custom maps.

only played the demo on the pc, but I thought the game looked decent graphically, not as impressive I expected...but I was playing it next to crysis, so the comparison may have affected by perception...I played it with everything on max settings by the way

looks pretty good here, though I think the cutscenes in general look alot nicer than the actual game does

I thought you couldn't get max settings in the demo. Texture resolution was reduced or something to keep file size smaller.
