Please. Oblivion took me around 15 hours to complete the first time through, and that includes the massive grind of the Oblivion gates, that were clearly there, just to artificially increase the length of the game. Same goes for games like Zelda, they don't take much more than that to finish either. What about a game like MGS4, take out the cut-scenes and it can be finished in around 4 hours.

This isn't a JRPG, it's not filled with dialouge scenes or CGI, there's not even any cut-scenes in Fable 2, it's all done in real time.

And if nothing else, at least they're being honest this time. Remember with the original game, we were told it would be over 100 hours, IF you ignored side quests. My first time through, I fully completed the game, with every item, etc in less than 20.

Considering the type of game Fable is, 12 hours seems right.

i really dont like the way you slide into your enemies when your attacking... its not next gen at all... i would make 60fps smooth realistic combat one of my prioities... its an rpg afterall i want to feel immersed, i dont want to feel like im playing a hack n slash game...

and also, that magic trail... that right there is proof that the dog dosnt work, or at least they couldnt get it to work 100%... i thought the dog was your mini map, i thought the dog was going to show you where to go. its like they are not confident with it so they just quickly add a gold trail. see this is why peter should shut his mouth until he has things actually working. just seems to me now the only thing the dog will do is bark at you when you are near a side quest. a clever divice to make the game longer i guess.

i'm still gonna get fable 2 though, i loved the 1st one. i'm just slightly dissapointed from what ive been seeing. but im sure the final version will be much better anyway

Oblivion:
without Sidequests: around 100 Hours
With Sidequests: 500 + - Hours...
For me without Sidequests ~20 hours

FF series are longest games ever (most are ~35 hours Minimum!! +best games ever)

Fable 2 looks really cool (the environments are gorgeous!!!

Combat.....good but not perfect!!!

The magic trail is the same as the golden minimap sign in Fable. It's only shown if you have an active quest.

yeah, bit strange. its adding realism where its not needed.

why not have a toilet meter at the top of the screen, to tell you when your character needs to go to the toilet. i'll tell you why, beacause its pointless lol.

I guess the games so short because story and quests change depending to decisions you make.

Its like 12 hours of story for each, the good and the bad fellah...

Apparenty though there is a point to it... you have to make sure you have safe sex if you're cheating on your wife, if not you can catch a desease pass it on to her and have her find out.. then ofcourse wish to divorce you...leading to her taking half your stuff..includining money you've collected.

Also..it can happen the other way around, ignore her too much and she's cheat on you. If you get a desease you can also get sick and weak if you dont take your medicine.

So there is some gameplay purpose there.

Just watching the footage, they say they only need the polishing up left to do.. i would say the camera needs some work though

yeah, ive watched all the footage, but wasnt fully convinced

i'm just thinking whether implementing it was time well spent or not on the devs part. i just think if they hadnt bothered maybe they could have used the time for better things. like smoothing the combat animations. i hate the way your character slides into where the bad guy is then does the attack animation. how hard would it be to make your character take a STEP forward and then attack. maybe its not practial that way. but i'd rather they sort out the camera and the animations before putting in STDs as part of the gameplay. i would guess combat should be the priority over STDs as a feature.

and whats with the dog? seriously i thought it was going to be a big part of the game and was quite excited. now theres a golden trail doing the dogs job. the dog dosnt even seem to attack anymore... :(

dont get me wrong though, i'm nitpicking, its gonna be a great game ive just been looking forward to it since the last fable so i'm a bit sensitve if i see something i dont like lol. i just want it to be everything its been promising to be!!

At least the chances of them doing it safely are greater. You have to be optimistic here. The condoms are made out of the finest animal intestines. Hmmmmm, I guess you can really "pork" her that way. Okay, terrible joke.

what you have to do, is take whartever peter molyneux says which a great big, heaping pile of salt. he bullshits, a LOT. its what made fable a HUGE dissapointment. it was good, but nothing, and i mean NOTHING like what was originally promissed. this game looks to be more like what was originally meant for fable 2, so hopefully, by fable 3, we'll actually have what was promissed for fable 2.

Some massive overreactions in here... especially on the main quest thing.

You could finish mass effect in 8 hours if you wanted to, you could even finish fallout 1 in less than half an hour if you chose to. Not if you're playing like any normal person would play those games though.

Oh, and you can turn off the breadcrumb trail if you don't like it.

I was disappointed to learn that the game is only about 12 hours unless you muck about with wives and all that. I don't wanna actively avoid playing the main game of fear that it might end, I dunno why they insist on making it that way. :/
Its 12 hours if you do a speed run and ignore all side quests and so on and really whats the point on playing a game like fable if you just rush things.

Except Fable 2 hasn't been over hyped, and every feature that's been talked about, has actually been demonstrated :)

Length was definitely a big bummer about the frst one, looks like this one wll be the same

I wouldn't mind being able to keep playing after beating the game like the last one too

That being said, this looks like it has much improved models and animations in this one. Combat is definitely improved

But why not just make it longer anyway?
They are not trying to sell it purely to the hardcore who love long games. They are selling to the mainstream - the mainstream don't like games which are too long. Makes perfect sense.

Don't like games that are long? If a game is good, I always want it to last as long as possible. Over the years, the duration of singleplayer games has decreased (COD4: 6 hours for a 64 euro game!), because the development time and the amount of people working on a game have increased over the years. So in the end it's all about money. Games are more than often too short for the price they cost.
