E3: PoP commented gameplay
2008-07-22 17:11:57 by BlimBlim
Prince of Persia is back already with the same demo as before but this time in a 14 minutes video commented by the game's animation director. Must see! There is a minor (Elika) story spoiler being said between 0:40-0:50, so die-hard fans might want to mute during that time.

Kinda ruins the whole...setting.
They guy acts and talks like Nathan Drake wich is..bad in a PoP game.
I'm not sure anymore about this game.

Game looks great, it has a nice flow to it...but some things annoy me.
The character design sucks imo. The animations themselves are good, but when the hell are we going to see some, ATLEAST DECENT, animation TRANSITIONS!? Not one game this gen has even attempted to do this decently...very sad.
I don't like the 1 enemy combat, I don't like having an attachment on your ass throughout the whole game and I'm not too keen on the whole sandbox thing either. [/rant]

I actually like the approach of having Elika with you the whole game. It's definatly a plus if there is some character development through the whole game. I don't think animation transistions will ever get to a point of not being noticeable anymore, most likely games will run entire engines that calculate the movement individually (like Euphoria in GTA4).

That's it, I am no longer watching any more videos.
I've been watching this game very closely since I first heard about it, and this is by far the best video I have seen on the game. No, nothing is spoiled about Elika, you find out about her at the beginning of the game, which is mentioned in other interviews (if you weren't too scared to watch them, that is). So the story is not blemished at all. The developer showed off the most fantastic fight animations I have seen for the game, and brought a whole new level to it that I didn't really notice before.
Also, the single enemy combat idea is totally genius, it makes the combat part similar to Shadow of the Colossus (which is something people, that believe enemies are better in quantity rather than quality, should play)
So, big thumbs up to Ubisoft and to Mr. Basically here (he does say it alot, okay?). I'm definitely buying this game on release day.
