Now you mention it, I remember on the original Xbox buying Doom 3 because it had online coop. You could only play without the story, so we completed the game in about 3 hours. Probably the worst game purchase I ever made. Then again, that's just Doom 3 for you.

am i the only one that thought the graphics actually looked pretty sweet in places? rivaling that of mass effects. Though the screen shots do look stunning..doesnt quite touch that in motion. I would honestly say its the best looking rpg to hit so far this year. You just need that close camera mode selected.

it will be interesting to see how they can evenly pace co-op without the story breaks though.. as you risk one person rushing ahead constantly. Also be interesting to see how co-op allows time to skill up your character and collect loot.

Still a big shame that its no longer 4player too..especially when they spent the first 2 years of its existance on the 360 selling it as a 4player co-op experience.

Crysis ? (according to the press and the rest of the gamers, it seems) :P

Definete buy for me too, love the way they mixed nordic mythology with cybernetic future stuff. And i love these vids, because they show off the ART behind the game, not the "graphics".
Crysis was also a good game beyond visuals. And the atmosphere was great. Plus shooting down the squids with the gauss rifle on easy was addicting as hell, and nothing is more bad ass then one of those bastards crashing down right by you.

Looks great though, love the setting, the lore, the art, everything. I need to play this game!

Pretty mix feelings about this game.

Personally, I don't think the lack of story in co-op is a problem, look at something like Phantasy Star Online, Diablo or even Guild Wars, even when there is a story in this type of game, you experience it once, then you skip through it all every time after. It's really about level grinding and finding better loot.

I actually quite liked the demo, I thought the gameplay was fun and the story was an interesting take on Norse mythology.. however, the lack of offline co-op kills it for me. Would have been an instant buy for me, if it had it.

Frankly, I don't understand how anyone could bash this, and then be hyped about Diablo.

Totally.. and yeah.. the melee combat in Too Human leaves a lot to be desired.

I liked the ranged combat in the demo though.. and I loved the story presentation and the smooth transition from in game cutscene to gameplay. I do think it's a big mistake not to include these elements in the co-op experience. Given the oppertunity, there are many games that I would play co-op and never experience solo.

The story is going to be where this game really shines after all. WinterSnowblind brings up Guild Wars as a point of comparison, but honestly, as a multiplayer experience that levels Too Human. Where it won't, is as a story driven, cinematic experience. Too Human has that stuff down. But I think they're ultimately two different kinds of experiences. GW and Diablo will keep players coming back a lot longer than Too Human, that's for sure.

While it could definitely be better, I don't think it's necessarily fair to call it horrible as some people have considering the type of game it is. As a stats-based point-and-click(essentially) dungeon crawler, I find that the melee combat is better in Too Human than in Diablo.

In terms of story, I can't give the nod to Diablo over Too Human just yet. TH's story and setting is a huge draw for me, and I've enjoyed the cutscenes despite some iffy voice-work. Diablo 2's world felt only very loosely held together by the story.

Because with the artificial hour count by adding cutscenes, would made it a whole different and better game.

Right.

BTW, one of the best survival-horror FPS at the time ( on par with penumbra ), shame the new horror concept was based on a brainless shooter franchise. would love to see some puzzles and more interaction with the enviroments.
Waiting for that on Doom 4 with Tech5, Fuck Yhea! :)

Apples and oranges really, but personally I just can't stand the analog stick as a substitute for digital buttons. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. They're not doing anything with the stick that you couldn't do with the face buttons, and ultimately they're sacrificing camera control for it.

The story stuff might not make the gameplay better.. but I would prefer that it was kept intact in coop. Given the oppertunity there's plenty of games that I'd play through on coop my first time through. The night Halo 3 came out, me and four friends stayed up all night and beat it on legendary on XBL. It was fantastic.. we couldn't have done that, if it weren't the total campaign experience.

That may not be important to some people, but I'm sure you can see why some people might prefer it.

BTW... I love Doom 3 too. And what I've played of Penumbra is pretty neat too.

Crysis? That's basically a tech demo - most people will agree the game itself is actually very poor in execution.
I know, thats what i meant, but it still got 9.2 etc in all reviews and people went mental about it at first.

Its a game created as a tech demo for the licensing purposes of their engine since they no longer had the Farcry licence to make $ with. Nah now im being unfair, but its fun :)

Apples and oranges really
Depends on your point of view I guess. To me, TH is a point-and-click dungeon crawler that has more in common with, say, a Diablo, than a Ninja Gaiden.

Hehe, don't worry Starfox I was only bringing up Doom 3 because I felt that it was a similar case. In coop it lacked story AND engaging gameplay. Hence bad purchase.

I'd already played the game properly on PC when it came out, so getting the inferior version JUST for coop online play was a bad idea.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand. Can people stop mentioning Diablo!!? Seriously, it hurts me to even hear that game associated with this one. I know, I know, it's my opinion, so don't take it too personally. But Diablo is crafted by the awesome people at Blizzard (haha, not the ones behind Starcraft Ghost). Now I think about it, this game feels like Silicon Knight's Starcraft Ghost, except this game is actually getting released.

why the fuck is it in every damn forum, someone has to go * when is a game solely based on its graphics alone?* and someone goes * uhh crysis?* and the whole forum turns into crysis bashing

the hell!

Sure, but it's not point and click. If it were it would be more playable.

You guys are arguing random things.

The game feels unpolished, pure and simple. They talked a good game, they sued Epic, they even promised 4 player co-op. Promises broken, hype machine dragged on way too long, has been in development for eternity (and still feels unpolished), Epic was sued, etc.

The character customization is stupid. Why even have the appearance of skill choice when you're forced to go down one entire line in the skill tree unless you're an idiot? Especially when picking a skill will lock you out of the bottom skills of the other trees? Just ridiculous.

The combat is debatable, people either like it or they don't. But I can personally say that the combat feels horrible. It's as if they decided to take a game like Smash TV (with dual analog controls) and then tack on melee. Even Dynasty Warriors melee feels more "right" than this game.

This game practically needs a miracle to do well.

I played it on the original Xbox. That plataform, running that game decently, only shows watta beast it was. (Doom3 still puts some HD game-engines light/Bump-mapping to shame)

Doom 3 looks like their models are made of clay. Skin textures look pretty weird all over the place, as does Doom 4
It's a style choice but it's one that really bothers me

Doom 4? They haven't revealed Doom 4 yet, I'm pretty sure. Do you mean Rage? Because I think the models in Rage look f'n awesome personally.. as does.. everything else in Rage.
