The Game Convention is almost over on Gamersyde, and I think it's interesting to do a direct comparison of two of the most popular games there: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and Fifa 09. So I encoded two full videos at 60 fps so you guys can compare both games with the best quality possible. Be aware that the stream will still run at 30 fps though, so you'll have to download the video (in whatever format you want) to see it running at full speed.

In many games, specially football, realism doesn't necessarily mean better or more fun. To start with, you need to keep in mind that we're playing a 90min game in about 20mins. Starting from that point on, you can't make it loyal to real life and there's where Konami did it better from the first PES to PES 2007. They made their game fast, deep, challenging and responsive, which is all you need to deal with a 20min football game.
As for the animation, I'd have to give you the nod there. FIFA 2009's animations are better in these videos.
On the flip side, there are serious bugs with the goalkeepers (Almost 2 idiotics auto-goals? WTF!) I really hope they fix it before release and we might have an splendid game.
Commented on 2008-08-25 21:52:40Pes is looking like its back on track though.. might be a case of too little too late for many...especially given fifa will be using updated info constantly. Also.. the loading times on Pes seem waaaay too long.
Commented on 2008-08-25 21:54:08FIFA08 on the other hand brought in "new" innovations (manually passing etc). Visually, it's technically better (smoother, more detailed character models, though I still don't like how fugly and bulky they look). Sure, the gameplay was still a bit too slow for my taste, but it was still damn fun to play!
I only bought PES2008 to play it with my friends (who, like many others, refuse to play FIFA just because they had a bad impression with fifa...1997 or some crap years ago).
I really HOPE Konami can up their game this year. Cause EA have.
ps: as for the loading times comment above... considering that each match lasts at least 10-15 mins, even a 1-min wait is nothing :) More time to go grab a snack.

Commented on 2008-08-25 22:23:15Anyways, I used to be a massive PES/ISS fan, never would have touched Fifa, untill my disappointment with PES2007. So EA being my previous employer I decided to try out Fifa08, and now I'm sold. The license, visuals, presentation and quality of online features makes PES look like a cheap arcade game now. Sure I would say PES has much nicer and smoother game play, but Fifa is now just much more complete experience I am looking for as a gamer, and football enthusiast. Fifa09 for the win :) (sorry Seabass)

Commented on 2008-08-26 02:17:28 In reply to dingleberryNow from this new video of Fifa 09 it looks the same, yes its a bit faster but in a 10 minutes video i do not see anyone able to play passes in small spaces or a decent dribble. They loose too many balls "waiting the player"

Commented on 2008-08-26 17:36:05 In reply to zerolightPlus, fifa graphics aren't done right. The post processing blurring effect is not good looking.
Commented on 2008-08-26 18:41:57I think Konami really needs to redo the whole game. It´s obvious they are still working on the old engine which really started to show age and it will get not better from here.

Commented on 2008-08-26 20:26:45 In reply to citizenxThen of course there is some dribbling in fifa but it looks a lot like 08 where the only effective way to dribble was turning 90° like a turtle.
In the end the response still looks too slow to me, i hope who is playing in the video its no good at fifa or he is just playing the game like 08, we'll see in the demo
On the other hand in pes despite the awful animations i see a lot of situation in tight spaces where they still pass and dribble.

Commented on 2008-08-27 20:15:59All they need to do is to apply the same with the NFS series and I'm a happy chap!
Ontopic: Fifa looks pretty cool. I don't often play football games, but I do enjoy playing a game or two once in a while. Fifa seems the way to go nowadays!
