LucasArts released a demo of Star Wars: Force Unleashed on both Xbox Live Marketplace and the PSN a couple of days ago, and here is a video from it for you who aren't able to download it yet. I fully enjoyed it for what it was, and hopefully the full version can be as fun as the short demo.
LucasArts press release:
Demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed coming on August 21 on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network
On August 21st, PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox®360 owners will be able to unleash the Force in the comfort of their own homes by downloading the demo of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network. The demo gives players a taste of one of the early levels in the game: the TIE Fighter Construction Facility, under siege by a Jedi General named Rahm Kota. The Secret Apprentice has been sent by Darth Vader to hunt down and destroy the General, but is also told that, in order to remain a secret, he is to leave no witnesses.
Also included in the demo is a tutorial intended to teach players how to use their Force Grip power.
An entirely new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game's expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is the first next-generation game developed internally at LucasArts, and will be available on the Xbox®360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
As its name implies, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed completely re-imagines the scope and scale of the Force by taking full advantage of newly developed technologies that will be seen and experienced for the first time together: Digital Molecular Matter, by Pixelux Entertainment, and euphoria by NaturalMotion Ltd.

As for the gameplay itself, it's clear that Lucas Arts totally focused on and refined the game's super physics. The rest of Unleashed's gameplay comes off a little under polished and slightly repetitious.
I'll eventually get around to this one after it's released, but it's not a top priority purchase for me.
Commented on 2008-08-25 21:38:13The camera isn't great, but will do. The combat lacks that "oomph", but it's still enjoyable. There's some minor upgrading in there to (hopefully) keep things fresh along the journey. The bosses are lame though, and the animations are a letdown as well (some are great, but most of the transitions are horrible).
I fear the game won't last for much longer than 6 hours or so, and in that case it's a rental at best. Too bad, because I think it could be a short, but sweet ride!

Like I said before, I enjoyed it, but I don't see myself paying full price for it, especially as it seems very likely that it's going to be an extremely short game..
Commented on 2008-08-25 22:51:35as a DMC/NG/GOW type of game it certainly can't keep up with the refined controls and just extremely satisfying combat of those games

Commented on 2008-08-26 03:58:12quite odd it is no the impression I got of the game at all
the graphics are good, the detail is good as well but sadly it just has to fit in the star wars stereotype and visual identity. The apprentice looks the part.....he has been through a lot being under dart vader's thumb...settings and iconic items are recreated with fidelity and so are the iconic sound effects......the point is that this demo focused too much on a level that seemed taken straight from one of the first trilogy settings as such it felt underwhelming visually but if you pay attention to the small details like the shines....the reflections...the small R droids and whatnot the details are lovely.....I am sure that once we will see other scenarios we will be more pleased.....but I am pleased to begin with...just look at the vids for Christ's sake it is obvious they just picked a really horrible level compared to say Kaashyyk or however the hell it is spelled for instance
now game-play.....
the combos are decent if you ask me...good combinations of sabre...aerial combat is a lil useless unless you fight big enemies....lightning and force blasts in hand to hand situations are nice to use.....targeting was not all that hard I got used to it quickly and the camera was easy to use (it helps if you remove the action camera option) ....all in all I liked the combat
the force is always fun to use...come on....tell me you did not love tossing tie fighters around ......DMM is great...the AI is good too and the non pre rendered animations work decently as well (all animations are at least passable some of them are great) voice acting in the cut scenes is good if not outstanding ..... the idea of extra points for varied use of the force is good as well and stimulates you not to be repetitive about it too..DMM...now....somehow they picked a SUCKY level for it....you can appreciated it fully only on some objects and that is just not enough for me I wanted the whole enchilada.....
the story is very promising as well so I really can;t see what people are complaining about?

Commented on 2008-09-07 17:40:33This game will never be fully realized unless it comes to the PC, unless they iron these problems out in the final release. Not confident about that happening.
Stiff japanese style animation for the apprentice, no dismembering, horrible screen tearing, and no PC version = NO sale.
Commented on 2008-09-07 19:02:48This is a Star Wars title on a very wide of various platforms, if that doesn't give you a clue of why it will sell so much then I don't know what to say.
Not alot of people into gaming are so "geeky" to understand screentearing, framerate...etc. they don't care.
If they have fun with it, they will get it.
Besides, I didn't notice any screentearing from the PS3 version.
