At first announced as a Microsoft published title, Infinite Undiscovery will in the end be released this week, or even today, by Square-Enix. As usual I rushed to record the first 10 minutes of the game, and since this game is a RPG, and a quite complex one at that, many more will follow.
Update: Added 2 more videos. Another will follow this afternoon, and one last tonight or tomorrow.
Update 2: Last video for today added, more tomorrow!

Commented on 2008-09-02 13:59:09 In reply to WinterSnowblindLook at games like Final Fantasy X, XII, Lost Odyssey and even Metal Gear Solid. The English voice work is brilliant, but the Japanese stuff lacks any kind of emotion or even effort.
It's kind of odd really when I watch Anime I always watch JP dubs, but as for computer games I would rather have english dubs, all that reading would make my head explode, plus its hard to concentrate on onscreen action when you are focusing on text.

Commented on 2008-09-02 16:01:31you are kidding right? the english VA for FF XII is terrible beyond believe and the one for X not that much better either (but atleast it was bearable), while the japanese versions are just sugoi (superb)
@ Jollipop )
to me as a native german speaker the english voices, which are used to dub anime/japanese games, usually sound unfitting to the characters, especially for women/girls - the males mostly are ok and some good, like David Hayter/Solid Snake, but in FF XII they were emotionless robots
the japanese voices (for anime/japanese games) nearly always seem spot on to me
for movies the english voices mostly are fine/great for me, sometimes I prefer them to the (mostly good) german dubs

It isn't true that if you listen to japanese you don't know what they are saying, subs are there for that. The conveying of emotions is given by "how" something is said. The meaning is lost if you can't understand, but again not if subs are there.
A fact is that when you listen to something you don't undestand AND you don't have subs, what you don't understand is automatically replaced by something you think would be best for your interpretation. This is a reason why some people like to watch RAW foreigner material.
I agree that it can be annoying following subs during interactive sequences.
As for me, i find japanese VA vastly superior most of the times.
Commented on 2008-09-02 16:29:28thanks for uploading these videos. i'm not quite sure about purchasing this game but seeing the combat system in action and learning about some of the complexities of the combat is pushing me towards a buy

If you listen to the way not only Japanese but Chinese aswell speak they use a lot more variation in their tone when they speak.
English is just a pretty boring sounding language I think, although as an english native speaker its hard to know how english sounds to non english speaking people...
Japanese do like to use english words quite a lot though, so I duno.

Commented on 2008-09-02 16:56:33I think there's also the factor that Japan often gets higher tier voice actors for games, and that voice actors in Japan are generally more well known and respected. Other than a handful of games in the US this isn't true. I don't know if Japan has a SAG-equivalent, but that also raises prices for voice actors in the US.
Commented on 2008-09-02 17:14:45Normally characters would teleport to their next location and you find them, but actually seeing them run and following them like that is pretty cool.
Stuff seems to be mostly voiced until some in-game character mentions one of the game mechanics (cooking) and then it's non-voiced. Either they simply didn't have the time or it's as intended, but they still wanted some non-important dialogue to still look nicely presented, but from what I've seen so far, it's usually centered around some game mechanic or a hint that will lead to the explanation of one.

Commented on 2008-09-02 21:09:12I guess I'll get flamed for not understanding JRPGs but the design of the game seems to be completely old school in a bad way.

She uses a bow in gameplay, so why the fuck she stays like that in cutscenes, like she has a invisible bow? It's just a so... freakin' obvious bug, it freaks my immersion perception. Do Not Want!
she probably forgot the bow after she fought the ork

I just want to know Why the hell the animators still use the same pose as she was still holding one... just this time its invisible.
Its stupied as F*ck.

Commented on 2008-09-03 00:02:34 In reply to Optimusv2Best to not always believe what you read. The best way to go is always on your own gut. Watch the game in action to see if you like what you see. If you can't get a remote liking or interest in what you're seeing, then it probably isn't for you,
That opening cutscene was a whole heck of a lot better than I was expecting it would be, especially from a sound design perspective. Voice acting seems pretty good as well.
Graphically I think it looks fantastic. The art is definitely there and the lighting and textures are subtle, but still look great imo.
so many people were blasting this game to be generic and awful but from what i seen its gorgeous and doesnt look generic to me...
