Acert - The graphics in the video doc look as good as these screens, in my opinion.

The environment lighting does look slightly flat, but the character lighting is quite stunning - it's clear that the focus was put on the characters.

Even with a couple of graphical issues, it's still the best looking game coming out this fall. No doubt about that.

Even with all the nitpicks it's still in the highest echelon of console graphics, even if it didn't have it's stunning graphics and polished gameplay it would still be worth playing for the chainsaw :D

And Korndog is right; you picked the one picture (that artistically skews the complaint) but all the other shots look VERY flat and are technically inferior to what the former SP footage looked like..
I don't even think that particular shot is very impressive with the lighting.
Sure you have tons of poly and texture detail, but the lighting is just... WHAT LIGHTING?

It's just so "flat", as Korndog said; perfect word for it.

I'd be interested to know who the individuals were, that worked on each map.

Drools
The one factor that makes Skorge so “Badass” is that he’s wielding a Staff, but it’s not any old Staff... Cliff confirmed that Skorge’s main weapon in the game is infact a Dual Chainsaw staff, which we saw Dizzie chainsaw duelling against in the first Act. We really don’t have to explain how badass it is, seeing as there will be thousands of different awesome scenarios running through your head right now.

We confirmed in our Interview with Cliff that the rumors posted on Xbox360Fanboy were in fact true. Skorge is a playable [But majorly scaled down from the campaign] character in Gears of War 2’s Multiplayer. While we were playing Horde, we also got talking with SixOkay [Microsoft Community Manager]. I asked him about Skorge being in Horde, and he confirmed that Skorge will be the last enemy you face at Level 50 [Oh...My...God.....SWEET!].

In Horde, there are mini “Skorge-lings” that we weren’t supposed to be fighting against, however we imagine these are the spawn of Skorge [I’m sure we’ll be given some more details on these closer to launch]. As you can see from the images and the description, Skorge is truly a worthy replacement for General RAAM. His badass “Predator” looks, his size and his Dual Chainsaw staff are enough to give anyone a messy nerdgasm.

Let us know what you think of him, as we’ve been extatic about making this announcement for over a week now! [Closer look at his staff below!]

Screen space AO has been stripped out, baked in light maps are back in, the new screens lack depth haze, gamma correction for the lighting is washed out/overbright, not quite sure what is wrong with shadows but they look odd now as well.

As you can see from my link in the main forum with the previous SP footage of Gears of War 2 there has been a technical downgrade. I don't have qualms with people liking what they see, but that doesn't negate the technical downgrade or the fact it looks flat (it does in many shots which is directly related to technical changes in the recent build. Fact.)
It doesn't even need screen space AO, it needs some self shadowing. The game was always going to have baked in lightmaps, they developed a new technology that is also showing up in Mirror's Edge for that very purpose. Either way, it doesn't seem the dynamic objects have light mapping & they need to handle the lighting on those better. SSAO wouldn't fix the problems I'm seeing.

Man Horde mode seems to own.
But oh, how wrong we were. We'll level with you right now, Gears Of War 2's new Horde mode is affrontingly addictive. It's one of those "It's so simple, why wasn't it done years ago?" ideas, taking the basic team deathmatch and putting all the players on one side against ever-increasing CPU odds. Imagine Smash TV trapped in the body of Marcus Fenix and you've pretty much got it. Your squad of five human players is dropped into a multiplayer map and given a few seconds to fan out and take position. Then a wave of Locust will come in from the edges of the arena and you'll take them out as a team.

And then the next, tougher wave will come in and you'll do the same again. Indefinitely, until you die. And then you'll hit "Continue" again and again until it's 3 A.M. and you can't focus on the screen any more.

It's the little nuances that do it. Rather than just getting tougher or increasing in number, each Locust wave evolves the way your team has to play and forces a fresh set of tactics. It'll start out innocently enough, with only a few grunts and maybe a couple of Boomers to deal with, but by the time Gears 2's new Locust start being thrown into the fray your crew will be thinking on their toes, rethinking their weaponry and replanning their tactics with every new configuration of opposition. It's exhilarating, requires total focus and adaptability, and doesn't let up for a second.

Then there's the way the game handles player death. Only one player has to survive through a wave in order to earn the entire team a respawn in the next round. As such, the sense of cameraderie is intoxicating, as dead players watch their sole remaining team-mate battle on against immense odds, screaming encouragement for his Arnie-style, one-man stand to meet with success and pull them all through.
And the way that eliminated players can watch the match through wide-angled, controllable cameras or patrol the battlefield in a first-person "ghost" view means that the team is never really broken up. Dead comrades are always able to look out for new threats and yell tactical advice and advanced warnings to their man. Heroes can be made in every round of Horde, but it never happens without the help of their fallen squad.
Rest here.

Would be cool if you could play this mode with ten players.
5 against 5.

One team would randomly be spawned as a part of the locust horde, and in control of the AI spawns and routes.

I just checked these pictures for the first time... It looks kinda disappointing I think. I mean those are bullshots and doesn't impress that much. The first Gears looked really good when it was released and this looks pretty much the same with some small upgrades.

Anyway it's still probably going to be a great game. I mean MP should be a lot's of fun and story mode too. They added some great features to it too so I am still waiting to get the game someday. Gameplay > Graphics any day.

I would like for people to show me a game coming out this fall that has better graphics than Gears 2. And, for the last time, those aren't bullshots. Have you seen the video doc? Because most of those screens were taken from it.
