Ubisoft released Gearbox' Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway last week on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, while the PC version will hit the stores next week. Here are the first 10 Minutes of the game, actually more than that since the intro is really long. Some of this is in the newly released Playstation 3 demo, but since it's not sure when the Xbox 360 version comes up I decided to just capture this part for now.

We got the game really late so I haven't really been able to play it much, but so far I've been pleasantly surprised with it. The graphics aren't that bad and some things actually look pretty good, specially the ground - a part a lot of game developers seems to ignore. I've always been a fan of the series and this is very much like the previous games, so I really can't complain on the gameplay. As you will see in the video when I enter the house, the enemy sometimes simply stands still in the open just waiting to be shot. Close combat, specially in buildings, doesn't work well with the AI.

So the AI isn't exactly groundbreaking , and the Unreal Engine 3 slow texture loading is as usual fully visible in the cut-scenes. The much hyped "emotions" the characters show leave a lot to be desired, something we could see in the previous trailers - they just doesn't seem to be alive enough to show the tears, hopelessness that the developers seem to aim at.

As usual you guys are free to write your impressions in the comments below, and if you haven't played the game yet, enjoy these videos below.

It's as varied as other games like COD4 or GOW. Find cover, point and shoot. Move to next cover: find enemy point and shoot. Everyone dead; move to next area and repeat proces...

If you want extremely varied gameplay play Zelda :)
I don't like cod, I don't like gow, I don't like zelda. says enough doesn't it?

we've all seen it before and that's what's really bothering me.

Lol @ the "Dutch accent". I'm always amazed they can never get an accent right. Why not just hire someone from the country you're trying to capture voices from. Unbelievable. It always sounds Russian German or French like, no matter where the characters come from.

Then it's only with my console. I didn't say that the xbox360 doesn't have stuttering, just less.
Oh, ok. Not reading that sentence too good. Both stutter, the other one less.
I wonder when we will get games that are polished enough to not have any stuttering and a steady framerate whatever happens. Maybe games these days are just too huge to test all the way, or the development time is too short...

When we don't use Unreal Engine III...

On rent at the moment, so far, I kinda like it. For all it's flaws (which include shonky texture loading, crap script and over orange/blue night scenes), the underlying combat is sound. Favourite level so far - the sniping section. Felt a lot like Private Jackson from SPR while taking heads off the poor Axis grunts.

I'm playing it now on PC. I have a decent rig (E6750 cpu, 8800GTX, 2Gb DDR2), and it looks really good in high settings and resolution. No stuttering, little texture pop-ins. I think it might be the lack of video-ram in the consoles, rather than the engine.
I've only had pop-in, but if that's even gone in the PC version, I should try buying it for my friend who has a really decked-out PC rig and seeing if you're right :)
And how's the framerate?

I'm playing the PC version aswell now (just finished the baptism of fire chapter), and I like it.. The game looks really nice at 1680x1050 with everything on high detail.. Definatly better then what I can see in these Xbox 360 video's (although I have to say that also still looks good), especially texturedetail is better on PC.. I've also noticed no stuttering or texture pop-ups sofar when playing, and the framerate is solid (also in cutscenes).. My PC is a E6600, 2GB and a 8800GTS 640MB, so nothing that special anymore.. So I guess the issue's mentioned must be mainly issues with the consoleversions.. Xbox 360 and PS3 tech is slowly showing their age I guess (not strange considering you can get a Xbox 360 for less then 200 euro/dollar already)..

Only thing that bothers me a bit in this game is the sometimes clueless AI, and the somewhat clumsy controls (it sometimes feels like you're stuck when in cover).. Gameplay is solid though, giving commands etc is very easy..

Overall the game is really cool imho, I particulary like the whole atmosphere it presents.. It feels like a more serious grownup WWII shooter (except for the arcady slowmo's offcourse, which are cool though).. I'm definatly gonna play the SP campaign again (on authentic) when I've finished it..
