JC is so much fun if you are the kind person that likes random chaos and making up your own story, loved JC2

400 square miles is not huge. That is 20×20 miles. At those speeds that seems to be on the low side, no?
Whatever the hell size JC2 was was too big. Took fucking ages even in a jet. But i assume it's 400 miles squared?

yeah now It seriously does, and who would have thought judging by it's 2014 last gen build of the game. major face lift. But not only that JC3 looks to beat other games in just plain old fashion fun. the wing suite and grapple hook add enormous replay value and entertainment over just plain cover based shooting.

And then this game is also going to support mods on all platforms too, which adds more creativity to a nice looking game. I think more people are going to move over to this game just for it's sheer fun factor.

The first two minutes with the power-line shadows is a mipmapping glitch. mipmapping errors could be the result of loading up a map for the first time, or low usage on the draw distance.

Shadows doesn't look too bad in this shot of the trailer.

so i'm guessing it was a glitch of sorts.

I doubt it's 400 miles squared, but it could be. 400 square miles does seem a bit small for a game with jets, planes, and helicopters. Still, it's nothing to scoff at since 20 x 20 miles is still a pretty large area.

The game was fun before but it's not all the same. New features, new quests, better graphics, cannon story (like in many sequels) and of course mods, which allow for sorts of changes to be made. there is plenty of value in this title. considering In this era of gaming people pay a lot for just the same gameplay with high quality visuals and a cannon story.

Will they allow a co-op mod to work on consoles to make the game worthwhile? Otherwise its an easy pass. A bit too reliant on creating your own fun for my liking. I was marginally entertained by the mechanics of JC2 for an hour or so anyway, but then you realise the missions are all the same, the story is horrendous, the world iis repetitive and devoid of interesting locations, and there is nothing driving you forward. It's like GTA but without a story, characters or meaningful objectives, enough for some...but nah, no thanks.

heavily opinionated
For co-op it will get it. as for defining repetitive, shooters in general will always have a shooter logic. (Locate a threat neutralize the threat, throw in a few nice looking cinemas for story.)

In just cause case it's always been about open world, exploration, destruction, and gameplay. With mods there should be lots to explore and enjoy that you can't find in a linniar shooter.

lots to explore
Seems unlikely based on previous games and what we've seen of this. Lots to traverse maybe (unless it really is only 20x20 miles) but i'd argue there needs to be something worth finding to legitimise and warrent exploration. And some stitched together jungle and field with preciesely fuck all in them doesn't really fit that definition. It'll be like the past just cause games. The markers on the map will offer things to shoot, the bits in between only serve as a means to seperate them. Like LA noire and mafia 2.

You love the infamous series - the most repetitive open world games. And void of any interesting locations to discover in those small open worlds...I'm sure you'd find some fun in this, even if it is make your own - as most open world games are to be fair.

It does look very pick up and play, kill an hour, type game. I'm surprised there's no mp though...weren't they promoting some mod for jc2 a few years back that allowed hundreds in the world at once online?

JC2 is easily the worst sandbox game I've played to date, but it's full of neat game mechanics. There's just nothing interesting to do in the game. Also the AI is laughable stuff. I hope this game has a better campaign. It's pretty sad when the best part of your game is an unsupported mod.

the infamous series has a tiny map though. it takes 3 seconds to get across it and i don't explore that either, what's the point? i just do the missions and appreciate the story, voice acting, directed gameplay, set pieces etc...things JC just doesn't have.... JC2's size and lack of "point" was it's enemy. i like open world games when they either A. have plenty of meaningful stuff to do in them (see fallout...the witcher...GTA) or B. are small enough to make it's open world nature moot (see: infamous, bloodborne, dark souls) it's why i still think arkham asylum is the best batman...small and densely packed. the worst are JC, far cry 2, mafia, red dead and LA noire, because they committed the biggest sin...big worlds with nothing to do in them.

Nothing to do in red dead?? you're crazy.

I can't really remember infamous's set pieces. I agree with the voice acting and direction...but only for second son. The story should have been a lot better though with the premise...instead was actually quite boring. As for gameplay, they're the most 'rinse and repeat' open world games i've ever played...saved by my addiction in collecting shards, and pretty graphics.

Small enough to make the open world moot - then what's the point of the open world. Tbh I wouldn't mind smaller open worlds if they were truly open and sandbox. Meaning...every building you can go into, and complete manipulation of the world. Infamous doesn't offer this...there's only ever really one way to go about doing things.

I agree with LA Noire though...that open world was pretty wasted. The whole potential of that game was really.

I get that you never have played the original Just Cause, right? ;D

As for JC3 - i don't get from where the hype on gaf comes. Previous games were forgettable.

in the open world, no, not really. i don't really consider being attacked by cougars as a compelling reason to go off the beaten track. the vast expanses of nothing serves only to separate the actual areas of interest. now, this is true for infamous, but when the areas of interest are a 5 second walk away, it's not really a problem now is it.

and it isn't about whether you like them or not, it's about JC offering even less context, story, set pieces, focus...anything really. it's a small collection of abilities and a boring, empty, gigantic world to use them in. it's one of those games that's 90% travelling from A-B and 10% actually doing something you enjoy...and that perfectly describes RDR, watchdogs, far cry 2, JC2, LA-noire and mafia...all games i detest.

and what exactly would be the "point" of that? this is the problem. i like the things in my open world to have a reason, not to exist simply because they can. and a world where you could wander into every building would be the exact thing i despise. unless of course there was a good reason to be in every single one of those buildings? but realistically, that's not going to happen now is it. you've basically just adapted the tedium and pointlessness of a 5 mile wide expansive of nothingness in RDR or just cause and made a smaller world equally tedious and pointless. well done! :P

looks ok though I hope there is a proper story and tasks otherwise it will be boring after 1 hr, so far it looks like a low rent GTA with all the cheats turned on

as soon as I put all the cheats into gta to be able to fly and have all weapons to blow everything up it made the game boring.

also I don't like the fake that when the bridge fell into the water...no splashes...at all lol
