You might have noticed if you are not using an ad-blocker that the ads lately on gamersyde have been getting more and more intrusive. Even though I'm personally quite happy not to have to pay some of the site's expense out of my own pocket anymore since we switched to our current ad network, this latest type of ads is utterly and absolutely not acceptable. We are currently working with our ad partner to ensure these are never to be seen again on the site (please let us know on the suggestions forum if you see any of these again starting tomorrow), and I hope we'll be able to bring you guys the same quality of browsing as we had before. We are also thinking about another way of financing the site, so if you are interested, read on inside this news!
We are thinking about using a site like Patreon to have an alternate way of financing the site besides regular ads. For those who never used that site, it allows you to give an arbitrary sum of money to someone or a company, on a monthly basis.
This generosity would of course mean a few things for our patrons, like ads being disabled (of course), a special mention on the forum account, a dedicated download server, little things like that. Needless to say, no current (or future as far as I can tell) feature of the site will find itself magically restricted to our sponsors, you should know us well enough by now to know this would never happen. :)
What do you think about that idea? Would you be willing to help us financially with a patreon-like system?

Meta-studies are mostly good for trying to prove points on the internet. WTF??? (9 Hours ago)
@GriftGFX: meta-studies are extremely important in science as it compares the results of many studies. 1 study is not reliable. Studies need to be repeatable before they are accepted as valid. (10 Hours ago)

And SSRI's for example would not make it to market without proving (in double blind, placebo controlled studies) on-label efficacy and safety. (15 Hours ago)
I've had the pleasure of working on many pharmaceutical projects over the last decade. I'm not a doctor. Or a scientist. But I know how rigorous the FDA approval process is. (15 Hours ago)
