Enlight Software sent us a bunch of images from their controversial cel-shaded game Bad Day L.A. Could someone remind my of why a GTA-a-like in cartoon graphics is a good thing? Crackdown doesn't count! Bad Day LA will, if everything goes as planned, hit stores in July.

Someone forgot to turn off FRAPS? Anyway, this game could either be really funny, or really lame and asstastic.

lol awww.... 1024*768, cel-shading and 20 fps. :D
(But I guess they used another config)

Almost in the same league as the images a couple of weeks ago when they still had the Windows task bar on.

What makes this a GTA clone? It's a parody of the panic and paranoia of real life. It's a game that has you (reluctantly) saving people from terrorist threats, meteor showers, disease outbreaks, zombies, etc.

I don't know if I'm interested in this or not, but I think they're at least trying something somewhat different, not just copying a popular genre.

As far as I know, he masterminded the whole game.

I don't think it's fair to call this a GTA clone, unless all 3rd person action games are GTA clones now. GTA is more of a "go anywhere, do anything, thug it up however you want", and this is being touted as "you're a homeless guy trying to survive a day full of crazy disasters".

Definitely, the art style is superb. It's very difficult to pull something like this off. When I saw the first trailer I was a little turned off by it's message, but maybe giving a demo a shot would help.

Free roaming doesn't = GTA.
I recall reading an interview with American McGee in which he stated that the game is not free-roaming. He said that some areas will be more open than others, but there's really only one way to go.

According to the official site, it's broken up into 10 levels.

yeah, this is very story-driven and linear compared to gta games.

plus its not about being a gangster, youre a homeless guy who has to survive, and maybe help a few people, during the worst day that la has ever seen. its a disaster/survival/rescue game.

i think i even read somewhere that the only people you kill are zombies.

i remember this game. wasn't this controversial because it had a black guy going against the white population? i thought this game would never get off the ground. but apparently it has. very nice cartoon style.

From what I have heard about the game, I don't think that it is a GTA clone. But even if it were, it's a very good thing because it's not most blaxplotation, cash-in crap like the entire slew of garbage games like 25 to Life, 187 Ride or Die, True Crime, Final Fight: Streetwise, Crime Life: Gang Wars, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, and a whole slew of other games set in 'urban' settings attempting to exploit the current craze for anything 'hip' or 'phat'.

The very fact that it is NOT one of those, already makes it a winner in my book. The fact that it is one of the truly rare games attempting to actually make a statement or some form of real social commentary (along with attempting to be fun), Bad Day L.A. has been on my gaming radar for months now. With luck it will play (and be as funny) as promised, and then we can all have something to celebrate about . . . another good game.
