Black Rock project unveiled

Disney today unveiled the new game from Black Rock Studio (makers of Pure), announcing Split/Second for a release on Xbox 360, PC and Playstation 3 early next year. Here are the first images and a trailer.

lol press release by Disney, it just something chuckle about that. That said, the game does sound interesting and could be fun. I thought Black Rock Studio's last game was pretty good so i got some hope for this.

Damn, was hoping for gameplay. Is it me, or is the graphics and stuff in the trailer possible with next-gen? I feel it is, the last time to give that effect of not-sure-if-it's-CGI was Motorstorm and Dirt.

So from what I read and seen it the trailer. this going to be first game where this scenario happens :
Imagine you are leading in online race, by half a lap,it's the last lap.You are leading because you spent hours and hours practicing the driving mechanics of the game and learning the track. But suddenly you hear the announcer say player blah blah activates explosion of big @$$ bridge that is just ahead of you. BOOM and you finished last.
Now that sounds fun. /sarcasm
Until I seen some real gameplay, this game is off my radar.

First, it obviously CG--at least the water from the tube is undoubtedly CG.
Second, I agree with Kouzmich--but if they're planning on making things just so the track is altered, and not destroyed (e.g., the i-beams fall and make jumps) I think that could be pretty cool. I mean, games like Wipeout already employ weapons, and you can die from it (and lose the race from first place). Or this could be done Burnout-style, where you get respawned quickly. Either way, I'm kinda psyched about the interactivity of the tracks.
With the first trailer, I thought this looked like a very generic racing game, but it looks like Black Rock might be doing something really cool here.

It looks like all the traps will be avoidable but you need to be fast and know what to expect. Pretty nice concept I must say.

Well, not directly being made by Disney. Black Rock also made Pure last year which was really well received.

it's nice in concept. but surely such emphesis on track modifiers will result in a game that gets old very quickly, unless of course it is incredibly dynamic and can happen anywhere to any structure?. after all, once you've seen that building fall once, you'll be aware of it from then on in. it takes away that initial surprise that i think the game is kind of relying on.

otherwise yes, it's a good idea. one that was used in the game rollcage on PSone, where you could launch missiles at either the oposition, or structures to send them falling on other racers.

I have the same concern but hopefully the dev has something up their sleeve to keep it dynamic and not so repetitive. Could be really fun. I just hope that annoying announcer isn't actually in the game while you're racing. Sounds almost as bad as DJ Atomica in Burnout. *shutters*
