PS2 Xbox

Quite invisible for a long time, Criterion's long awaited FPS finally shows up with a playable demo, featured on this month's US OXM. For those who haven't purchased it yet, or for all our european mates, here is a video of the complete demo level. Enjoy !

I see funny words below the English. It scares me so!

Fun demo by the way. Although a bit short.

Hmmm...is that it? This is what they been talking about? Yes it's still just a demo, but it has gone gold so this is pretty much represent the final game. With no MP, this game won't hold up too long.

Well, it's gold for sure, but let's hope the demo doesn't represent the global level-design of the game.

AI retarded much?

The enemy character just stood there while (the player) reloaed the weaon while standing still and then meleed him. I hope that gets fixed in the final game. (probably wont buy this unless its BC

Myro> The IA is quite retarded, yep. And no BC I guess, knowing a 360 port is planned.

Looks fun with so much action, dust and particles flying arround..

But the gameplay just sucks, stupid AI, godlike playerhealth and no proper FPS controls.. Not worth the 60 bucks.. That pretty much sums it up for me..

The PS2 demo was hugely disappointing, no jumping, enemies taking more than one hit with a shotgun at close range, unimpressive AI etc.

Still better than Killzone though! ;)

Ugh, all you complainers are so spoilt. I don't know what you're all talking about, the demo rocked. Yeah it might be a tad unrealistic, but what game isn't? I think some of you are expecting something totally different since everyone mistakenly hyped it up by mentioning something about "the lobby scene in the matrix" as is so poorly used as a comparison to a lot of games these days. To me this is more like a modern day COD2. And I love it.

[anxiously awaiting gold disc to press and release]

I was never really hyped about this game, so im not really bothered. I may be spoilt by 360 graphics and possibilities thats why it never appealed to me.

Beyond all the brick-based carnage there always had to be a good game underneath. For it to be a good game I mean.

I was always a bit concerned when a company who've done mainly racing games (Redline Racers, Suzuki Motorbike, Burnout) seem so confident in making an FPS - the genre by far hardest hit by stagnation - based on what's basically the most GENERAL conceptions of what an FPS is like. It's clear that they had this idea of just grabbing any standard template FPS and adding crazy background interaction, and I always felt like once the novelty of exploding stuff wore off, it's just gonna be an insanely basic game that feels like something you played already back in 98. Hell, even most high profile FPS games these days do!

Looking at videos never tell you how satisfying an FPS is though. Just making the gun shoot by pressing down on a trigger means a lot and is something a video doesn't convey. This is where the game's only redemption lies in my opinion. If it's genuinely satisfying to actually fire those guns it's gonna be fun, and if it isn't it's not gonna be worth bothering with.

One thing is certain, though, if Criterion pull this off they're a force to be reckoned with. No matter how awesome the Burnout games are, it's not until you show that you can make different games and that you have an understanding of what makes games great that you get my outmost respect. That's why I really don't see why people throw their bras at Hideo Kojima whose only real effort is a 20 year old concept padded with cutscenes. It's a testament to the brilliance of the 20 year old game though, I suppose.

I wasn't very impressed with the Xbox demo either. Too arcadey for me, prefer realistic shooters. They also have the guns mirrored so the ejection port is on the wrong side and it just bugs the hell out of me. I've never understood the reason for this, though I guess some people are easily amused by shell casing being ejected into thier face.

This is seriously awesome! The gun sounds so loud and realistic the pure carnage what else do you want in a FPS??!!! Video doesn't do this game justice.
