i dont like the mechs very much, they're all mostly four legged. I wish there were ones with 2 legs that can use a jetpack like Mechwarrior.

Then you haven't looked hard enough, full customisation. 2 legs, 4 legs, wheels, air cushions like a hovercraft.

yea also you can have treads like a tank. i love how the cusomization is looking. anyone know when the release date for this beast is?

That looks more like depth of field with heat haze to me, but not very nice looking while still I admit.
