Dead Island Riptide is official

Dead Island: Riptide is officially announced with a bunch of screenshots showing that the archipelago has been completely flooded, making survival even more difficult. The city of Henderson and the jungle of Palanai Island will then only be explorable by boat and the weather conditions will affect visibility. A fifth character will join the original cast to face new types of atrocities and mutations. The survivors will often have to defend their base and protect it with fences for example.

Press release:

Deep Silver today announces first details about Dead Island Riptide.

The survivors of the zombie-apocalypse on the once beautiful island resort of Banoi escaped in a helicopter to the safety of a military ship. When a furious storm hits and the virus suddenly spreads throughout the crew, the nightmare starts all over again, leaving hope drowning in the rising tides. Devastated by a monsoon, the island of Palanai is crawling with new zombie mutations. A fifth character with an all-new skillset will join the team, providing much needed support. Additional multiplayer communication features and brand new hub defense missions will test the survivor’s teamplay skills.

Dead Island Riptide will be released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

A lot of water, huh? Time to make use of the electrified weapons.

Surprising how much a game can change when water is added to the same level.

I might pick this up. I didn't like dead island as a solo experience at all. Thought it was absolute shit. But i'v recently completed the ame with a bunch of work mates and it has been fun as hell. We're all playing a seperate character and there has been genuine co-operation going on. I do hope level, stats and weapons transfare over to this game though, would suck and would make absolutely no sense to start from scratch. Is is a completely new world though? Or have they litterally just filled the old locations with water? Seems kinda lazy if it's the later?

Not enough good games with zombies. Loved the first Dead Rising. Dead Island had more promise but didn't deliver in my mind. I was just bored.

I thought DI was the best zombie game ive ever played besides the first few RE's.I played alone and with friends and had a blast both ways,a bigger budget and it could have been something great though.Cant wait for this one.

Same Island? Man, I had hoped for a new location.

Just watched the video over at GT. you can transfer your character across....w00t.

The boat thing sounds kinda lame though. No mention of new enemy types either, which is a must seeing as nothing in the game put up much of a challenge. Boss fights would be awesome too. I guess it's that sort of stuff that seperates the likes of dead island from the awesomeness of borderlands. Dead island has tons of potential, and don't get me wrong, in co-op it was a blast, it just could have been so much better.

The original island was Banoi, it's the same archipelago but, from what I understood, it's a different island: Palanai Island.

Wait, what is this? Is it an expansion or a sequel? 'Cause it sounds like an expansion. Not very clear.

I was under the exact same impression…so I sniffed around, I guess this is a sequel.

I always get a bad feeling when a "sequel" has the exact same characters with the exact same models. This has the rush job stink all over it.

I really enjoyed the game, but I don't think I can forgive Riptide after my game corrupted 18hrs in.

Unfortunately it is a spin-off, not a sequel, but it should still be lots of fun in co-op. Cannot wait.

Yeah I wish that black chick looked like that in game. Then she wouldn't really be black though... Well... GOOD!
What the fuck?

It takes place RIGHT after the first game, set on the same island, and follows the same cast of characters (that can be transfared across to the new game) is that not a sequel?

MrWhite that shits expensive to do. (12 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite I'd rather stuff like glass reacted realistically via physics, than have realistic reflections and refraction via multiple light bounces (13 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite rather than wasted processing power concentrating on stuff with little beneficial trade offs compared to hack techniques (15 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite It's not entirely surprising, though. Hybrid rendering was always going to be the way forward. It depends how efficient it is, but I'd still rather devs do something with physics and AI (16 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite @Melmoth: Remedy's tech demo just makes me want a Blade Runner 2049 game now. Yes, I think I'd probably get aroused if a BR2049 game were announced by them using that tech. (17 minutes ago)

KORNdog @droezelke: what is plagiarized exactly? they ripped models and tracks from another game? because it just looks like another futuristic racer to me? (4 Hours ago)
