Tecmo announced that Raidou, the final boss of the first game of the franchise, is part of the fighting roster in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round. One more fighter is yet to be revealed before the game launches on February 17th.
These fighting games have become so stale over the years. It's easily the most stale genre. I remember when I played DOA2 for the first time on my Dreamcast, I was amazed. That feeling lasted a really long time. When I played Soul C on my Dreamcast, I was amazed, and that lasted a long time as well. It kinda went down down slowly up to a few years ago when the genre didn't even exist to me anymore. I was pleasantly surprised and pretty amazed by Tao Feng for my Xbox as well (still have the original disc). I'd like to be amazed again. A decade has gone by with nothing really innovative or having that 'wow' factor, like when you first played SFII on the SNES, or KOF on the Neo Geo.
I think fighting games will not progress until we somehow incorporate an AI/Physics engine for the animation, such as Euphoria. I wonder how refined that tech is today, if it still exists
