Remasterd... Jumping on the Capcom bandwagon are we id ? Fucking liars all over the industry these days. Here's your Remaster fix: Buy the Original D3 + Addons for PC for like 5-10 bucks each and install Sikk Mod + Rygel's Texture Pack wich gives you this:

As console player i'd think twice about bying this, not worth the money imo. Well, depends on wether you played the originals or not.

that is one blurry ass gun. but looks nice overall.

they've actually tweeked quite a bit. duct tape mod is default. more ammo for a faster, more "doom" experience (not happy about either of those things personally) plus you get the lost missions and the original games. seems like more then just a typical capcom job to me. but then i'm a big fan of doom 3.

I liked (and played) D3 A LOT, but honestly, the whole flashlight/machine gun switching was terrible gameplaywise. At least this got fixed in the BFG version. Never played the Addons though. Maybe the mods are compatible with the PC BFG-Edition too but no guarantee and in case they're not you'd either want to go with the originals or smash your head against a wall...

The flashlight/weapon switching was the only thing making the game stand out as a horror experience. To create tension and fear, you need to feel vulnerable. That mechanic achieved that perfectly, sure you had plasma guns and BFGs a mouse scroll away, but for those moments where you needed to see in the dark, you where tense. And when you had to fight, and only the muzzle flash was illuminating the environment...it was awesome. Flashlight on gun...say goodbye to that. With the additional ammo and new checkpoint system, my guess is this version of doom 3 is going to feel completely different. Which imo. Sucks.

lmao, shitin' on the BFG Edition for a awful snapshot of the exagerated blur, doesn't help the cause.

These are some of the expected "PC ONLY" effects you can have in this unofficial definitive version, if your pc can handle it...

I think the major selling point of this is being the first Oculus Rift-ready game. Sure, some modern games might look more impressive but playing this in virtual reality sure makes this a much more immersive and awesome experience.

I agree with that gun/flashlight. Adds to atmosphere + adds to difficulty. Both positive IMO. Im not gonna buy this, but still, who knows...

Shame they didn't include an option to leave the gun/flashlight in the original spec.

...or you can go with the Wulfen Texture Pack, but that's up to you.
And i dont agree with the flashlight thing. The whole switchin only made the protagonist look like some uninventive dumbass plus it did not really add anything to the atmosphere since you'd still crap your pants on any occasion, with or without the flashlight.

That Wulfen Texture pack is next to useless anyway. It is only patch work for some levels, plus you need a tweak to get the POM working, and it only works with nVidia cards apparently.

I though the same originally, until i played it with the duct tape mod and it stripped away any tension or fear. You can't be scared when you're armed to the teeth.

Wow just wow, Id Soft claimed they used IdTech 5 in remaking this game... thats it what a bunch of liars I have totally lost any kind of respect or faith in Id Soft and John Carmack... they really screwed themselves....
A real shame too because they had alot of potential to make a big impression given how they spent 5 years just making IdTech 5 for the disappointing RAGE that you have gamers here reccomending people to just go and use the old game with modds... useless mods.

For whats is worth Rage is still at 60fps on consoles and it looks quite decent, now the actual game design was boring after 20 hours of playing it.

For what it's worth using a different engine doesn't automatically fix old assets. Use your head maybe.

I know that but at least it was their evidence of their five years making their new tech that was designed for multiplatform competition in making games and getting their games played outside of the PC.

At least RAGE had the whole idea of more than 4 enemies on the screen (something even PC fans who played Doom 3 complained about that Doom 3 did not have enough enemies on screen...)

Their games are pretty average however PC gamers for many years with their inflated egos continue to hype the living crap out of any FPS PC game dev and talk down to console folks... you also knew that PC gamers complained that they thought RAGE was a "console port"

Oh well...

It would have helped to implement standard effects that everyone is familiar with and was already seen in RAGE... it would have helped to re-articulate the polygon count of the models and the cutscenes (in my mind a directors cut where the devs get to enhance their vision)

It would help stabilize the frame rate... Doom 3 was designed to require super fast CPUs and GPUs back in 2002 when the Alpha was leaked and almost even in 2004 when the game was finally released.

They could have addressed the short comings of the gameplay system... but I'm wasting my time telling you this because all you see is "port" opportunity not a chance to get new audiences... what new people will see instead is ugly poly counts and textures and just go back and point out how high tech Call of Duty MW 1 is.
