Everspace closed beta starts today

Alpha backers of the roguelike space shooter from Rockfish Games can update their build on Steam starting today to dive into the first closed beta of Everspace. It brings two new sectors filled with new asteroids, improved space clouds, new gorgeous sun flares, ocean planets and a new swarm type of enemy. Newcomers who want to participate in the beta can do so by heading to the developer's shop here before July 31.

Essentially Steam's Early Access, only timed. What a time to live in.

Yeah it's exactly this, well in all fairness devs have to eat too, especially if they don't have publishers funding them and are self funded/indie. Also you sort of have do this sort of thing if you went through the KS process or else your backers will get really pissed off if you open it to everyone. It's not a good idea to burn those bridges.

I backed them on KS, but I get why those that didn't back them would be upset if you go back to the days when demos where common place(those that remember). Now I suppose everything comes at a price, which sucks but I get why its this way. This is why there is Steam early access for better or worse.

It may suck for the customer initially but it really does help out these sorts of companies doing their own thing, which ultimately should favor the customer in the end.

Like you said "what a time to live in" :) things sure have changed over the years, I still remember playing Diablo 1 shareware, things sure are a lot different now.

About the game

What's up?
  • Melmoth
Melmoth the arcade shadow dancer is also nice, built on the same gameplay foundations as arcade shinobi, but a bit weaker level design. i also love rolling thunder 1&2, which are also very similar (6 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth i played a bit of shinobi and kunoichi on ps2, but they are really just shinobi in name. (6 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth game gear shinobi is more like the arcade version than the mega drive ones. (6 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I'd love some kind of real Sega revival. (6 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I like a bunch of Shinobi games. Even the Game Gear had great Shinobi games. Also the PS2 Shinobi was too quickly forgotten. (6 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth my fav Sega game is Shinobi (original arcade). I still play it now and then. I think they have other, more recognizable and iconic characters/brands, but for me those games don't hold up as well today (6 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Wasn't really bashing it anyway. I love a lot of Sega stuff, and I think Shenmue is okay. Maybe a bit overrated is all. (6 Hours ago)
