Everspace closed beta starts today

Alpha backers of the roguelike space shooter from Rockfish Games can update their build on Steam starting today to dive into the first closed beta of Everspace. It brings two new sectors filled with new asteroids, improved space clouds, new gorgeous sun flares, ocean planets and a new swarm type of enemy. Newcomers who want to participate in the beta can do so by heading to the developer's shop here before July 31.

Essentially Steam's Early Access, only timed. What a time to live in.

Yeah it's exactly this, well in all fairness devs have to eat too, especially if they don't have publishers funding them and are self funded/indie. Also you sort of have do this sort of thing if you went through the KS process or else your backers will get really pissed off if you open it to everyone. It's not a good idea to burn those bridges.

I backed them on KS, but I get why those that didn't back them would be upset if you go back to the days when demos where common place(those that remember). Now I suppose everything comes at a price, which sucks but I get why its this way. This is why there is Steam early access for better or worse.

It may suck for the customer initially but it really does help out these sorts of companies doing their own thing, which ultimately should favor the customer in the end.

Like you said "what a time to live in" :) things sure have changed over the years, I still remember playing Diablo 1 shareware, things sure are a lot different now.

About the game

What's up?

Melmoth @KORNdog: I think BF2 had 64 player in 2005 or so, but that was pc only. (0 minute ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @Melmoth: i'd imagine the player count is what's taken so long. besides MAG on Ps3, and planetside (which is kind of cheating) i don't know of any other game with a 100+ players outside of MMO's. (19 minutes ago)
  • toelessfoot
toelessfoot PUBGs popularity may have come a little too late in the development cycle for the next BF game though, map size really matters. (40 minutes ago)
  • toelessfoot
toelessfoot The first time I played PUBG DICE immediately came to mind as the dev who could potentially full realize the concept. (41 minutes ago)
  • alimokrane
alimokrane Battlefield and COD need to take a frigging break for a change, that's what's needed. (58 minutes ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth just surprised it took so many years for someone to adapt the concept into a game. (1 Hour ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth @GriftGFX: i haven't played PUBG, but from what i've seen it looks like it's more or less lifted from the movie Battle Royale (which is again based on a novel). Things like having zones and drops. (1 Hour ago)
