Fallout New Vegas first images

Fallout New Vegas first images

Bethesda finally decided to release a bunch of images for Fallout New Vegas. The game's graphics seem to be very similar to Fallout 3, except for a few palm trees maybe, but if the game offers as huge an environment as before along with an interesting storyline, it might be worth putting on the anti-radiation outfit.

Bethesda: The master of boring and repetitive environments...

Bit underwhelming, if I'm being honest - too soon for a new Fallout game anyway in my opinion.

Just give me the next Elder Scrolls already!

I don't like the Gamebryo-engine that this game uses....Character and facial animations are just ugly.

I'm really disappointed with these screenshots. I was hoping that like Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt and Point Lookout, that Fallout Vegas would adopt it's own unique color palette and art style to better reflect the 1950s Vegas culture.

We were also promised by Bethesda, that not only did Vegas not get hit directly in the Great War, but the city was an up and running, vibrant city - so why does everything in these screens, look just as run down as they do in the Capital Wastelands? Maybe these screens are from locales in Southern Nevada, surrounding the Vegas area. But even so, you would think that for an area that did not fall apart after the Great War, after two hundred years, the surrounding area would have more to show for itself than being just a run down as everywhere else that was directly hit during the War.

Oh well, at least they got the West Coast super mutants the right color. I just hope they remember that the West Coast versions of the super mutants were not only intelligent (compared to their East Coast cousins), but also, a reasonable lot, who were not overly aggressive for the sake of killing everything in sight - many of them even joined The Brotherhood of Steel, among other productive things they were known for.

No matter, I guess. I spent over 250 hours in Fallout 3. And much like a reformed substance abuse addict, there is hardly a week that goes by, that I don't dream about firing the game up again, and going through it one more time. That pretty much guarantees that Fallout: New Vegas is a day one purchase, no matter what non-canonical nonsense makes it into this chapter. I just hope is huge, has a great story, some great characters and plenty of DLC to follow it up . . . oh, and a much larger licensed soundtrack. About 100 songs ought to do it. The 20+ songs from GNR got old pretty quick in Fallout 3. Made me so happy to tune into even Agatha's station more often that I should have.

Loved Elder Scrolls 4, but hated Fallout 3, because although 2 years later it suffered from the same technical flaws as Oblivion. And this probably will too.
Besides the technical stuff, I really hated the new V.A.T.S. and the lack of dark eerie humor. And the ego-shooter gunplay felt kinda clunky (PC).
Maybe I'm getting old, but I wished they'd bring back the round-strategy VATS of Fallout 1 and 2

it very much fallout 3.5 as far as visuals and style goes. but that's not so much of a bad thing since i loved fallout 3. it's still pretty dissapointing that the game looks so...well, dissapointing.

as with fallout 3 tho, i think i'll wait for the inevitable GOTY edition with all the inevitable DLC included. it may take a while, but i managed to get fallout 3 for £15 with all the DLC...can't go wrong with that.

to be honest i'd rather finally pick up Fallout 3 collectors edition - theres a full games worth of content i've not experienced yet in that.

Can't really see what this is offering new with gameplay mechanics...though obviously a fallout tie in and not fallout 4. I hope the storys strong.. and i'm interested to see vegas lit up at night.

Definatly pick it up at some point.. but doubtful it's gonna be this year

DLC is getting out of hand. All of my initial fears of developers abusing the release of pointless expansions through transactions have transpired. So far only the Grand Theft Auto IV episodes have been worthy imo.

Since it's developed by Obsidian this time, and not Bethesda i'm kind of hoping that this one will set itself apart from Fallout 3 :)

Ummm.....Okay is it me or does this just look like an expansion of Fallout 3. Like it really looks like another add on. I don't understand why they don't create a whole new time period and environment. I mean....really if it looks like this it really just looks like an expansion.

Wow. They actually do know that there is more colors than brown, green and gray. Cool. Looks 100x better than Fallout 3.

HEY! HEY EVERYONE! Bethesda is NOT developing this game! They are only publishing it. Obsidian are developing it.

I think there might have been something wrong with your tv.

Both, but like Elderscrolls, Fallout 3+ looks far better in first person. Their third person animations and camera blow.

People expect too much sometimes. It basically is an expansion in the sense that it's a spin-off of Fallout 3, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a whole new game too. There are new gameplay mechanics, an entirely new world, and plenty enough content to justify calling it a new game. This will be much, much bigger than any of the DLC for Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 was the shit. Hopefully OBSIDIAN doesn't f it up.

I reckon this will be better as long as Obsidian actually finish it. KOTOR II was better than KOTOR I except for the ending, it was a darker, more intelligent experience with much more interesting characters. I think Vegas will be the same, Obsidian have a real knack for making sequels to other people's games that surpass the originals.

Looking at Obsidians track record i think we can assume that it will be good. Nevewinter nights 2 seems to have done alright and i know for a fact that i think that Kotor 2...well what was there was good but the unfortunate rushing of the game dragged it down quite substantially. I think it would have been a classic if they'd have gotten more time with it.

Well, the really, really, really good news is, that Elder Scrolls V and Fallout 4, will both very likely use id Tech 5 - no more Gamebryo, which was a crap engine in the first place.

If New Vegas turns out to be good, and barring the lack of any graphical updates, there is no reason why it should not, I'm hoping that Bethesada will encourage ZeniMax to buy Obsidian.

Bethesda is primarily only one team, who now have to split their time between making Elder Scroll and making Fallout. Back when they were only responsible for Elder Scrolls, all was cool, as they could churn them out in regular intervals. Now having to serve double duty, Elder Scroll releases will become fewer and further between.

Enter Obsidian as a permanent member of the ZeniMax Group. As I am sure that everyone knows by now, the core members at Obsidian, were the core members at Black Isle Studios who created the Fallout series in the first place. As I understand it, the entire Black Isle team made the transition to the new company, with the exception of maybe one or two people. But all the team leads except one made the crossing. In a sense, Fallout New Vegas is more of a homecoming. Unlike Bethesda, Obsidian has two, maybe three internal teams, which would allow them to focus on producing Fallout 4, while continuing working on their other IP. Meanwhile, the team at Bethesda can continue focusing almost exclusively on the Elder Scrolls series. And with both new installments utilizing id Tech 5 . . . match made in Heaven.

Anyway, a boy can dream.

I think that this GAME is going to be very good if is all about the story and exploration but a new environment is needed to not get bored of too much of the same thing like Fallout 3 at the end i was a bit bored of the environment lucky me for the ADDons
Commented on 2010-03-10 14:22:23
Looks really lazy, and it's too bad the engine still lacks environment shadows. Surely it isn't unreasonable to expect proper shadowing at this point...

Might as well be DLC.

So far not interested
