Looks interesting. A cross between Far Cry itself, Tomb Raider, Uncharted and maybe even Snake Eater. But if they make a game like that, I'm sold. I love games where you are forced to survive by hunting etc.

Fantastic...

1. Open World
2. Non Linear and Side Quests
3. vehicles, paraglider and boats
4. Roleplay Gaming elements inkluding a skilltree
5. 30 different kind of animals, you can hunt and sell the dead bodies

Along with a fresh story including expressiv charakters!

What more could a single player gamer desire?
Cause I prefer games where I am able to decide on my own how to solve problems. Games which are non linear, where the AI is flexible and the gameplay is really interaktive. I hate the tendency of scripted, non gameplay tube games like Battlefield und Call of Duty.

looks so realistic - or when did you last see "only" B-size boobs in a video game?

This kind of realism is a bad thing in my books.

I refuse to get hyped for this. I'm going at it from the "low expectation alow for the potential of surprise" standpoint. Because i got hyped for far cry 2 and it is one of the worst games i've played....ever. If my expectations are as low as mine are now, it will SURELY surpass them? Time will tell i guess,

The fight for the only FPS I will buy is between this and Dishonored, good thing I will buy it this December.

Will give me time to see whats the more decent.

Far Cry 2 sucked but this looks great so far. It looks like a true sequel to Crysis.

Everyone seems to be forgetting the part where Far Cry 2 looked great too.

Even if it won't satisfy the FC 2 haters, there's really not much out there (other than Just Cause) doing the whole island + sandbox shooter. Clearly, Crytek is not interested in going back to what made Crysis 1 fun.

As a side note...this game shows how NOT to do ambient occlusion...sticking a "photoshop drop shadow" around hands near objects is not ambient occlusion. Deus ex human revolution (and most games for that matter) did the same thing. Just looks ugly as hell.

Ambient occlusion is so demanding too. BF3 does it pretty well, I think, but it's so subtle that it simple is not worth the processing power required.

I think when you do it propperly, it's demanding, but worthwhile imo, adds a lot of depth to the world, especially concerning the environment. Also grounds the characters to the world, look like they exist within it, rather then floating through it. But this looks like a cheaper (processing wise) alternative, which looks ugly as hell imo. The moment a character is close to the environment he/she turns into a cardboard cutout.

Even poor AO is pretty demanding in my experience. I almost always shut it off. It's not worth a serious dip in performance.

Yay for settings.

Plenty, there's a certain popular gaming podcast and plenty of critics who love the emergent game stories and Heart of Darkness vibes that come out of the game.

You can still love a game despite recognising some of the flaws (respawning checkpoints, malaria).

Absolutely. I just never saw redeeming qualities in Far Cry 2 that really presses anyone to enjoy it past the ten hour mark. Everything beyond that was so tedious and boring. I didn't know the game had fans. I'm still hopeful that there's something worth playing here but I'll definitely wait for the reviews and impressions to start coming in post release. Far Cry 2 isn't the worst game I've ever played.. but it's pretty bad.

edit: Wow.. just looked at the metacritic score for FC2. 85. I'm legitimately surprised. Maybe I'll disregard the reviews entirely and wait for some actual impressions of the endgame.

That was what got me hyped. They showed something that looked great, trailers really sold me. Then reviews came out and they where super possitive...there was no reason for me to assume far cry 2 was going to be overwhelmingly boring. But it was. Generally, reviews seem to echo my own feelings concerning games, but far cry 2 was so off the mark i just didn't get it. I'd be interested to see a lot of those high reviewing sites re-review it today, see if their feelings have changed.

I just don't get how people found any enjoyment from the world, the characters, the voice acting (that sounded sped up and had no pauses...ever), the travelling, the weapon jamming, the maleria, the repetative missions, the re-used locations, the respawning checkpoints, the retarded AI (that could see you snipe a guy from 10miles away in pitch darkness) the broken stealth (enemies scream so loud you may as well have shot them with a bazooka)

So awful, and yet an 85 on metacritic...how? I dunno. I rarely ever come across someone who likes the game, and it frequently tops peoples "worst games of he generation' lists...it's a conspiracy i tell ya!

I'll just lump it with perfect dark zero as complete freak occurances (somehow managed to get an 81 metacritic?)

Or maybe people and critics have different opinions from you. Nope couldn't be that, most definitely a conspiracy. It was a very divisive game though, so opinion was split 50/50 from "worst game this gen" to "one of the best FPS this gen".

Anyway, they know the most common complaints of an empty world, guard posts, and are working to improve that while keeping the stuff that worked like fire, day/night cycle, emergent gameplay, and sandbox design.

You forgot about the awful missions :P

A game that's front loaded on the first ten hours will probably always do well with critics too. They're pretty easily fooled.

Far Cry was great, but hated those stupid monsters, Far Cry 2 was awesome, satisfied my hunting needs, Far Cry 3 will be the best. Cant wait to dig into this jungle with bow and knife.
