FDJV: TRU Gameplay

FDJV: TRU Gameplay

Eidos was nice enough to do a quick demonstation of Tomb Raider: Underworld for us, and even if it's still the old and buggy build of the game shown at Leipzig it's still nice to see the game again. Don't worry about the bugs of course, they promised me that everything would be fixed in time for the release date.
Update: This time unless I forgot something this is the last video from the Festival du Jeu Vidéo. This is still running on the PS3, and still a months old build.

Anyway, looks great, but I can't wait for the day water distorts the light properly. /is picky

awesome. I hope they fix water animations like splash and waves thou. Still cant wait for this game.

That water looks pretty horrid, it's like a sheet waving in the wind or something.

Rest of the game looks good, though.

Lara seems "bendier" than usual--I like it! Don't see why some people are so upset about the water though. It's not like you'll be swimming over it for most of the game.

The reflections of the water are static (early build, i suppose).
Other than that and few other small glitches , the game looks amazing.

Don't see why bother with wather effects on surface, when where it counts 99% of the time is in the deep water exploration.

The game looks amazing, & not a single rival since Anniversary, wich is sad... the world needs more Plataform puzzle adventure games. Soul Reaver 3, please? ;_;

what's up with the title?

Hmm, on which platform is this game running, cuz i saw an 360-Y and an PS3-triangle popping in.

Fresh and pretty but definitely not upto level of Uncharted... They should clearly take under consideration Uncharted while making these pulp-mystery games from now on. The plantation seems fine but yet again totally non-responsive/non-interactive(and definitely not Uncharted level pretty) and water is also not so physics oriented as was in Uncharted...

Moreover, wet Lara is fine but yet again not to the degree of how Nathan Drake got wet in water with all those colour changes, lighting and wrinkles in the clothes, definitely Lara's model is not so upped to a true next-gen standard.

I was afraid of all that already, it took Eidos a whole decade to get the developers like Crystal Dynamics, and them to work out a solid engine that was used in Anniversary for a Lara Croft game, and they are sticking to that, its great gameplay-wise, but other departments are not fully working clearly...

@Farooq: Your entire post is somewhat decent, but again... not Uncharted level of decency. Nothing is.

Yup, maybe you're right, nothing is, until Uncharted 2 maybe...

i presume it`s some "not final" build? some clipping issues and the lack of any waterripples suggest that. but even if this was final i would buy it °_°
it has everything a TR game needs, but with even better gfx and animations than the last one!
cant wait ^_^

I have to admit that Uncharted has better graphics and was a better game than the previous TR's. But Uncharted did steal about everything from TR.
On Topic: The graphics look good and sometimes bad. It's unbalanced. The way Lara is pushing bushes away will get very old and annoying after a while. But I see potential in this new TR. But I have the impression it still needs a lot of work. So I'm hoping they will not release it unfinished. I would rather have an excellent TR somewhere in 2009, than a crappy game in 2008.

My problem with how water is done is that it just looks like everything's perspective is still the same as if it was out of water. Water distorts light and "flattens" whats underneath. As such it just looks like 3D objects sitting under, as someone said, a blanket.

This is what I'd love it to look like -

I am looking forward to a non-rushed 2nd generation Uncharted game.

Seeing if they make the graphics any better.

Yeah i noticed that too, but it shows a square near the end aswell so it's probably on PS3

Actually it stole everything from Prince of Persia series on PS2, and developers themselves confessed that, while praising POP's great new gameplay design... and didn't even modern Tomb Raiders stole that from Prince too???, that's right, TR was so rubbish before POP: Sands of Time, it took everything from that game to be successful gameplay-wise.

Well, you pretty much know that shooting was never a great deal in TR, or even that Uncharted's shooting sequences are totally different from TR series, they are more like Resident Evil 4 and GearsofWar, while Tomb Raider's are like Max Payne or a gazillion other dual weilding games, so Uncharted just couldn't have taken those from TR anyways...

...The main thing in both games is the gymnastics, and atheletic exploration designs/platforming, and in both games they are picture-perfect copy of POP:Sand's of Time trilogy(you have to say you never played a PS2/Xbox POP game to deny that). And that is the part which Uncharted Devs have already confessed upon taken up from the latest PoP games...

Please keep the thread fun.

Read Blim's comment on the video:

"Eidos was nice enough to do a quick demonstation of Tomb Raider: Underworld for us, and even if it's still the ((((old)))) and ((((buggy)))) build of the game shown at Leipzig it's still nice to see the game again. Don't worry about the ((((bugs)))) of course, they promised me that everything would be ((((fixed)))) in time ((((for the release)))) date."

There should be some clues in there for people who like complaining about games while using ..invalid arguments.

Farooq whats with the Uncharted obsession? And to use the game Max Payne as an example of bad dualwielding shooter games, wow no comment :)

This looks pretty nice though, but what has always put me off when it comes to buying Tomb Raider games are that they are usually pretty short, and have no multiplayer (i dont know how they could have any decent multiplayer, but still).
Tomb Raider games are usually good, but $100 (you americans get it cheap compared to us europeans) for 4-5 hours of a good game? Not for me.

that Uncharted's shooting sequences [...] are more like Resident Evil 4 and GearsofWar
I smell a contradiction...

The main thing in both games is the gymnastics, and atheletic exploration designs/platforming,
The platforming and puzzles in Uncharted are easily outweighed by the shooting sequences. Hence the main thing is shooting.

Farooq whats with the Uncharted obsession?
He is not obsessed with Uncharted, he is obsessed with Sony.

To say something on the topic: Nice graphics. The water is a bit static but I guess work in progress.

Tiz Judgement wasn't all bad though. Overrun is better than Horde and I wished if there was one thing the Coalition kept from Judgement, it was that. Instead of treating it like a horrid bastard child. (47 minutes ago)
