I'm still getting the cartoony vibe looking at these screens. I don't know what it is, but it's been bugging me since Forza 2.

here we go... getting even more a head start with the dlc. Forza 3 was a great game..but it was one of the first to set the ever increasing trend of promoting dlc for a game before that games even been released. I also didnt appreciate getting the game new on week of release and finding locked cars in the menu that required additional money to use.

Its my choice to purchase dlc or not.. it should also be my choice to ignore the existance of it if i desire. I shouldnt have to see locked content in games with an asking price of £50!.. something fightnight also pushes

Here we go again, in-game Foza 2 never looked as good as the screens released, environments however were stunning.

DiRT 3 has set a benchmark and quite frankly we are beyond being bedazzled by exagerated screens.

Some reason this don't look a quarter as good as the trailer did.

I don't think those are the pre-order bonus cars in the pictures above...

YES!!! I love the new shaders they're using! They've been very "we're very proud of our new look!" the past few months and I can see why. It looks stellar.

And no, those obviously aren't the pre-order cars! ahhahaha

@ Majinme: What on earth is cartoony about those shots??? Are you trolling?

vastly improved shaders inded - Still not quite GT5 standard, but it's getting there.

I'm hoping that the new graphics engine (or atleast an overhaul to the old engine) means that we will get a most more realistic shader and lighting model.

infact, this is the only really wish I have to new Forza.

Really, this is make or break time, 2 games have come and gone that have missed the visual bar in one way or another.

Even GT5 missed the bar in certain areas (namely performance and massive visual artifacts in certain circumstances).

With games like dirt 3 and shift 2 proving what can be done with the consoles the old tired arguments and lack of effort no longer rub.

The sequel to the only true 60 fps AAA game in my recent memory. No false advertising as in MW3 or GT5.

I hope they can keep it that way, too bad the photomode shots will still be a compressed mess compared to these shots. That or having to do tiling is such a bullshit.

Shift 2 was smoke and mirrors. I have Shift Unleashed 2 and it's nowhere near as nice as the vids and screenshots would have you believe. Not even close. I don't have Dirt2 yet, but the reviews have backed up the screenshot claims that it's gorgeous.

GT5 was bulls*&#. less than 20% of the cars looked like the ads. Only two or three of the tracks lived up to the hype. After getting GT5- I can't imagine where 5 years went in the development of that game. It wasn't the graphics, it wasn't the control... it seemed to me that game spent 1 year in development and 4 years copying Forza Motorsport 1,2,3. A great graphic engine does NOT mean a great SIM. As bad as the shader was for FM3, the game and physics were top of the line.

I do hope the Kinect Head Tracking works in a way that's better than Unleashed 2. I don't like the 'auto turn' of the head in U2. I crashed into walls and racers all the damn time because I THOUGHT the car was turning and then I'd overcompensate when I realized it wasn't. That was a wreck of an idea.

The thing is, the SIM stuff was more than ample in FM2 or 3, why would I want to invest in FM4 over either of those other than the gfx engine?

I agree about the auto cam in shift 2, it was awful. I disagree that it looked bad, on PC it looked pretty incredible, especially at night.

As for GT5, yes, it was hit or miss, bu given the right circumstances (all premium cars, a GT5 track rather than a rehash and no dodgy weather effects) it could look damn impressive.

Stuff FM4 needs to fix, awful lighting engine, awful paint shaders, blacked out windows, lower number of cars and animated car parts such as wings or other spoilers. Those are just the basics, night racing and weather is kinda expected now aswell, but they arent anywhere near as essential as the above issues which have plagued both FM2 and 3 for me.

The new shaders look great, especially on the chrome metal. This and Skyrim are my most anticipated games of the year, i cant wait!

Sadly no racing game looks as good as the photo mode screens that devs release!

However these are a massive step up from F3's photo mode so hopefully gameplay graphics will also see that step up.

That vid's really got me excited now. Best thing is with Turn 10 they'll be a consistancy throughout...and it will be one of quality.

Forza 3's still the best looking/feeling racing game i own (i dont have dirt 3). And it's surely only a matter of time before other racing games start taking the excellent auction house...just as they have with the race line. But forza's always going to offer something that sets it apart from the rest.

Oh and the kinect stuff is bound to get ripped apart by people laughing that you'll have to use your hands to steer - something that will surely be optional, and perfect for little kids/none gamers to pick up and play the game. But, though not a kinect fan, being able to look around the car like demo'd in the second vid, and the head tracking during a race (which must surely be a kinect&pad/wheel option too) is very cool

They are in a light coloured warehouse under strong white fluorescent lights, looks about right. Watch the leaked vid Corellianrogue posted to see how the image based lighting works very well in different environs (as you would expect).
Commented on 2011-05-27 01:20:49
They are basically competing the photo mode nowdays lol. Kinect one is on rails and useless but there is also contorller one I guess with more cars on track and improved gfx? It will be intresting to see how this end up
Commented on 2011-05-27 01:29:16
just watched the links Corellianrouge posted, all i can say is forza 3 looks like an addon to forza 2 compared to what forza 4 is going to be like, for a start several times during the video on dailymotion there were way more than 8 cars on the track (could have been 20+) and the graphics are insaine, i actually thought this gen has finally hit its graphic's limit but obviously it hasnt, if turn 10 can vastly improve the game by as much as they have in such a short space of time (2 years) maybe polyphony could learn a thing or two from turn 10.

just its a shame there are so many haters out there who constantly troll the web looking to rubbish any game with false facts "still not quite GT5 shaders but getting there" (the shadow effects in GT5 where really bad and that is part of the shaders).

That is not a great incentive to be among the first buyers. If the game has something like 400-500 cars, then buyer should be really interested in those few specific cars. As a bonus it is ok.

What I would like to have:
a) fewer cars, if it would mean more tracks
b) more city tracks
c) longer tracks
d) non tarmac tracks
e) marathon races
f) "create your own race"
g) victory celebration after winning the race
h) More gameplay variety. Influences from Metropolis Street Racer and Gotham series.
i) Whole soundtrack by Richard Jacques. Not just random bands.
j) I can't do fast sharp turns in Forza 3. Why is that? Steering wheel should have bigger turning range when using controller.
k) The little white warning triangle is annoying. It means that your time is not valid for that lap? It is too sensitive and may also affect the following lap.
l) It bothers me that I can't use my favorite car in every event. And that some events require me to modify it so much, that it doesn't look like the original. So maybe some careers that are possible using just one unmodified car.

dont forget though the new firmware has enabled an extra 1gb of data per disk plus the ability to import your forza 3 save file, that coupled with better graphics, physics and modes and you have a sure fire winning formula however i dont quite understand why you want arcade phyisics in a racing simulation or why you prefer less cars.

lol at the white triangle, if you cut corners your laptime wont count, heres a solution dont cut corners and stay on the track also taking short cuts will also invalidate you're lap times, it not too sensative you just need to improve your driving skills.

I didn't say that I want arcade physics. I can turn my car's steering wheel fast. Try it next time how little and slowly it turns. In cockpit view. ;) Simulator can also simulate fun things. I said I want fewer cars, if I get more tracks in return. Nothing strange about that.

I think that little white triangle is too sensitive. If few tires touch the gravel slightly it is all over. And not just in corners. Also if my lap is non valid and I because of that try to slow down my speed to about zero when the new lap begins, it may still remember my mistake and lap is ruined before it begins.

Yeah, you can use the joypad or racing wheels, that's been confirmed. Kinect is totally optional although I think most people will use it for head tracking even if they don't use it for steering.

It's 16 player online so there should be at least 16 cars on track at once.
