Xbox 360 PS3

2K Games released the three images pack, just like they've been doing a couple of times this summer, but what's interesting is the announcement of the release date. If everything goes as planned, Fallout 3 will hit the stores on October 31st in Europe.

2K Games press release:
August 20, 2008 (London, England) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax Media company, announced today that its highly anticipated title, Fallout® 3, will be available on store shelves and online in Europe on October 31, 2008 and in North America on October 28, 2008. Developed at Bethesda Game Studios – creators of the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion® – Fallout 3 is slated for release on the Xbox 360®video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows.

“We are very excited to let gamers get their hands on Fallout 3, the latest chapter in this beloved and highly acclaimed franchise,” said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. “To meet the huge demand for this title by our fans worldwide, we are planning one of the biggest launches of any game released this year.”

Fallout 3 features one of the most realized game worlds ever created. Set more than 200 years following a nuclear war, you can create any kind of character you want and explore the open wastes of Washington, D.C however you choose. Every minute is a fight for survival as you encounter Super Mutants, Ghouls, Raiders, and other dangers of the Wasteland.

Hailed as one of the most anticipated games for 2008, Fallout 3 has already won numerous awards including Best of Show from the official Game Critics Awards at E3 2008, a selection voted on by an independent group of journalists from 36 leading North American media outlets that cover the videogame industry.

So one week after Fable 2 and Dead Space. I wont be done with those games until mid November. All these excellent games coming out around the same time is an embarrassment of riches.

I'm middle class... but I save money. So that's... 11 games I want before the end of the year. Hooray!

God i certainly hope it doesn't...though it probably will. Imo oblivion is stupid. The whole level scaling crap just ruins the exploration...sure you've got a huge world filled wit....whatever armour/weapons/monsters that happen to fit your current level. Going in to a dungeon you know that you'll only find a freaking leather armor and that totally kills the experience for me. Also story was sparse, they had like 3 voice actors and the dialog was terribly uninteresting when present but for the mot part not even that. I hope that fallout does the following:

*Big open world without any form of scaling to fit the character. If you go in to mutant teritory at level one, they SHOULD be able to rip your balls off.

*Witty/fun writing. Please no more NPCs saying the same thing ALL OVER THE WORLD, through the ENTIRE game.

*Plenty of actual choises in the game, affecting the outcome of situations. Not just whooptie do, the guard came after you but REAL effects on the world...like if your actions might change later quests or whatever.

*Actual conversations with characters, and not the old "phrase here" followed by "generic crap response here" style we know bethesda usually goes with.

*Not being able to do EVERYTHING in one run. In oblivion, the mages guild recruits orcs wielding huge clubs? That's just weird. They should at least have some sort of requirement, so that you have to think about how you want to play your character. Orc gets int -10 = stupid = cant cast spells or something. In fallout terms i guess it would be decided by skills and traits :P

Sooo...basically i hope that it fixes all the things that oblivion did incredibly BAD. I just pray bethesda looked to the two original games for more than visual inspiration as those are really two of the best RPGs ever made.

From what i've read, it seems like all of that has been fixed.

For what it's worth, I absolutely love Oblivion and would be very happy with "Oblivion with guns". I guess fans of the actual series (Fallout) would categorically disagree, but i'm not really bothered about them. :)

blmbox: i won't complain if i do get oblivion with guns as that would be at least 100-150 ours of entertainment, but a REAL fallout sequel would be very much more appreciated on my behalf ^^

i really hope this gets delayed and gets the polish it needs. Not just in terms of graphics/animation, but also gameplay...as from what i hear from the lastest eurogamer hands on with a near "finished" build, this games got ALOT of problems. Too Human might not be the only anti climax this year...

Just buy it on the PC and wait for the mod community to fix the game. It worked for Morrowind and Oblivion.

if you had read ANY of the reviews you would realize you just listed all the big things people have noted in Fallout 3. Don't worry, these are all things that are taken care of in Fallout 3. Ther is no scaling, the dialogue is supposed to be really interesting and diverse, and choices in teh game have BIG effects, like you being able to destroy an entire town, etc.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to Eurogamer. I usually do but, seeing as they're the only site who has been negative about Fallout 3, their opinion can't be that accurate.

Fallout fanboys should be thankful that, at least, it isn't EA who picked up the Fallout IP. Fans of System Shock, Command and Conquer, Wing Commander... et al have no such respite.

Maybe, maybe not... all the problems eurogamer picked up on though werent opinion, they were fact..as in the problems actually existed in the build they played.

You also need to remember that alot of these sites are pretty corrupt when it comes to previews in order to build up hype.. this is because they get alot of advertising money from the publishers of certain games... so if you see ads for games that are being published by the same people that are publishing the games you're reading up on then you really should take everything with a pinch of salt... as surely you've noticed countless times where a games been really hyped up, had positive hands on experiences, positive previews..and then gets a 7? IGN seem to do this alot for example.

Eurogamer is the only negative preview i've read. I'm pretty sure not every gaming site has been paid off.

Anyway it's what we, the potential consumers, make of it that is the most important thing. And I think it looks brilliant.
