The more I see of Fifa 09 the more I think PES / Konami really have to pull something special out of the bag this year

Gameplay looks very good looks alot better that fifa 08 and runs alot faster i loved the takle in the 6min :D i really cant wait for thsi game farewell pes2009.

Fifa is getting stronger and stronger, Konami are just a fading blip in the rearview mirror, if PES ever wants to compete again with Fifa Konami must invest in a new, next gen engine rather than continually trying to patch up the PS2 engine and try to cover over all the scratches, so far from GC the biggest PES celebration is "no more slowdown", when their fans are celebrating that you know the franchise is on its' last legs. I played ISS on PS1 - PES5 on PS2, great times, but they're in the past, as in the PES engine.

apart from the lack of sound, simply incredible, EA have REALLY improved in the last few showings, they started of this gen fifa poorly, fifa 07 was alright, fifa 08 was great(I did put in a good 100 hrs into manager mode alone on thisgame), this looks truely amazing, cannot wait a day 1 purchase for me =D.

My jaw literally hit the floor when I seen the first trailer for this game. It's all using in-game engine graphics and animation, and comparing it to the horrible Messi (no pun intended) trailer that Konami put out, this just completely blew them clean out of the water. It looks simply incredible. Take note Seabass; THIS IS WHAT A TRUE NEXT GEN FOOTBALL GAME SHOULD LOOK LIKE. Not that cartoony shit you've been spoon feeding us football lovers with. No longer can the PES fanboys (me included) use the horrible faces excuse to beat Fifa down with. The faces on these players look even better than PES now, yes I said better. Game play wise, it looks as if they ironed out a lot of the responsiveness issues and then some. PES just got handed its own ass. Fifa 09 is now the new king of the football sim. Konami, you are fucked, and you've only your lazy slack arses to blame.

Hmm no offense but I'd say the animations in the CGI trailer are well dodgy. The animations in the ingame footage are miles better, I'd assume hand created animations v mocap, and we know which ones win.........

Looking very good. Player faces aren't quite PES standard for me, but they have drastically improved. Graphically though, it blows PES out of the water.

You think that's CGI? That's the actual in-game engine, not rendered. It's like the intro to PGR4. It used the game graphics, but obviously had tidy effects like ramped up AA and motion blur. I don't think the animations are as seamless during gameplay as you say. There is nothing dodgy about the animation in this trailer, and it uses mo-cap. As I said, these are the same animations sets used in the actual game itself.Just a personal thing this. I personally think these faces look better than PES's. They certainly look more natural, and that's due to the more detailed model of the face. Fabergas looks incredible, but it's Xavi Alosno that blew me away. No way does he look better in PES. Not a chance. Even Robbin looks amazing in the trailer. I think like-for-like, if you compare PES's big name faces to Fifa's this year, Fifa's will probably end up being the winner. Of course not every face is going to be spot on, but that can be said for both games.

The thing with the player faces in PES is that, when Konami get them right, they are extremely good (better than any of Fifa's in my opinion). But when they don't get them right, they look absolutely hideous.

Fifa's look more consistent (not in Fifa 07 or most of 08 though, they looked weird) than the ones in PES. That's the one thing graphically I wanted Fifa to change. Their presentation is top notch and the graphics in wide cam (which is what is the most important because you're playing the game in that view) are superb, but they just needed to alter the player faces for a more realistic look. Now that they've done that, Fifa is looking like the real deal.

I can't praise Fifa enough really. They've seen Konami struggling with this gen and they've stepped up. Finally Be a Pro mode has been put into a manager mode context and the gameplay seems to be like an improved version of Euro 2008 (which was a very good game by the way). Plus the fact that a lot of my favourite bands are on the EA Trax list helps.

Dream on, people. PES is so much more fun and controllable. Fifa has been for a while and continues to be slow and clunky. Even the menu is sluggish. All it has are better player models and nearly every team out there. This 09 looks just like 08. And if PES doesn't change much it won't matter.
No one plays Fifa anyway.

I Am a PES fan. But im more exited about fifa 09 cumin out than PES 2009. Watchin that video its looks like the best football game ever. graphics,animations all looks class. i love the nets to,PES nets r rubbish!.

Since fifa has moved 2 next gen it has made so much progress getin better n better. PES hasnt made no were near as much progress since movin 2 next gen.
